After doing some investigating by playing on the PC side (Bootcamp), I can say that this texture degradation is only appearing on the Mac. The rain shader on the Mac is also broken, and some of the atmospheric effects lack colour. I also get regular crashes, usually when activating something.
On Windows, I get no texture degradation at all, the rain shader works perfectly and the atmosphere seems more colourful. It also crashes less. I guess I'll be using my PC side for this game for a while.
I haven't noticed the crashing being related to that - most crashes for me happen when I activate something. However, this is the worst I've ever seen the horses look, and only since patching it up. Only very occasionally have I seen the horse rendered with the correct resolution texture on, usually they look like crap, especially next to my detailed character sitting on it.
It's like the game is failing to load the close-up full textures properly, using the distant view mipmaps instead. I've been making textures for Elder Scrolls horses since Morrowind (back then added by a mod) and these are horribly low-res.
Since the patch however, this problem is significantly worse.
As already posted on the Mac Support section, it is most likely down to a change in the Mac client which is part of the efforts to address the memory crash issue since update 1.1.2. It did help with this including Cyrodiil but at the cost of aggressive texture downsampling.Publius_Scipio wrote: »After doing some investigating by playing on the PC side (Bootcamp), I can say that this texture degradation is only appearing on the Mac. This is interesting. Maybe @Moonraker can give us his thoughts.
