Crash every time I take attachments / use Bank

An irritating new bug has sprung up.

It actually appeared before but not with this sheer intensity.

Whenever I open my mail from my hirelings, if I take the attachments the game crashes. Every single time. I have to log back in two or three more times to take from the other hirelings. Each time there will be a crash. I am pretty sure the items still get stored in my inventory, and I'm using the appropriate character for each hireling (Fen-Wander with Woodworking and Blacksmithing, Sorlia with Clothing and Enchanting)

This bug has appeared before, but it would happen if I had JUST logged in and had my character in a bank. If I was quick on the draw and opened an attachment sometimes it would crash. A minor annoyance.

But it has become a massive point of irritation.

I will try some things tonight (in 12 hours) to see if there is any way I can get the hireling attachments to not crash the game.

Also affected is the Bank. This is equally severe and it happens whenever I deposit or withdraw an item. At first this bug didn't seem to occur, but last night when I switched characters suddenly every single time I would withdraw an item or deposit an item it would crash the game. At that point I quit and played more Wolfenstein.

Is anyone else receiving this issue?

If it happens again I might post the crash report, though I always click Submit anyway.

The bank crash might be related to how many players are in the bank at once.

With my character Sorlia (Bosmer, AD level 29) I decided to travel to Elden Root and try the bank there. It worked fine. I was able to get her stuff stored away.

The bank issue would have made the game impossible to play. I need to use the bank to store materials and researchable garments. I need to use the bank before switching between characters, since I have Sorlia keep all the enchanting and clothing materials in her inventory, while Fen-Wander keeps all the smithing and woodworking materials. Alchemy is shared between the two.

I will update this post around 10:00 PM when I anticipate the next round of hireling messages will come. I haven't been able to take the items without a crash and I anticipate having to log in four times tonight to get all the hirelings. I will post the crash log then.

Crash as I thought it would when taking items from a hireling mail.

I'd like to at least know if the issue is being worked on. What is causing this?

Add to the list deconstructing and researching at crafting stations. Through a little experimentation and a lot of frustration, I've found that this crash occurs any time you use a bound hot key to perform a UI action (maybe only keys that have been remapped by the player...that will require further testing). If you instead click the option (where it tells you which key is bound to the option) or double-click the items when selecting attachments or crafting items, the game won't crash. It's not a fix, but a temporary workaround.

I solved the bank problem (crash when attempting to withdraw or deposit an item) by logging out *outside* of the bank, then logging back in. Logging out inside the bank seemed to have been the issue for me.

Going by SoonerMagicEE's speculation, I find that the crash only happens if I use the keyboard shortcut for withdraw, deposit, or take attachments. If I right click and select deposit/withdraw, or click on take attachments, the crash does not happen.

I've never had a crash by using the mouse only. The crash also doesn't happen if I have been playing the game for a considerable amount of time.

@SoonerMagicEE, you are my hero! After re-mapping some stuff, I am no longer experiencing this problem and can now play again.

I just had three crashes in a row trying to take materials from hirelings' email also using the keyboard "E" key. I'll try using the mouse and see what happens then. :/

The problem occurs when you have the use - default "E" - key bound to a key stroke that is also bound to another action. Go into your bindings and remove the identical key bind.

I bound "E" to jump, which is how I bind all of my games.

Now that the problem has a specific cause, perhaps it can be fixed for the next patch? That would be great, until then I'll just have to use the mouse.

Though, I do notice that the crash only happens when I just start the game up. If I have been playing for a while I can use everything without issue on the keyboard. Maybe it might be because I had time to jump? I'm going to try starting the game up, jump around a bit, and see if the crash still happens.
