Nightblade Update

They should rename this thread to Nightblade "Update".

Attention Zenimax: Stamina builds don't hold up to magicka builds, and this is causing most of your class imbalance. It makes melee weapons and bows weaker than staves and class abilities. It makes medium and heavy armor less desirable than light armor. Fix this imbalance, and you'll address most of your balance issues.

Could you look into adding a passive stealth run speed to the shadow passives or assassination passives. Something that won't stack with the current vampire passive. Current movement in stealth with just concealed weapon passive is not enough to get into position. The passive from vampire is almost required for good melee positioning when combined with concealed weapon.

A passive version of stealth movement speed for nightblades that does not stack with the vampire one (to avoid being over powered) would go a long way toward any positioning problems we may experience in both PVE and PVP.

I agree, I would cure my vampirism but the stealth speed buff is just something I won't give up.

Some good news at least, but there is a load that needed sorted.

I'm a bit gutted to find out that siphoning attacks don't restore health; I thought that that was the point, it's certainly why a chose it! Can I have my skills point back please?

Pretty much. Though Undeath and the regen passives are nice too. I even got the stun on feed passives since I'm not using the active abilities any more. It's a free heal mid combat as long as you have invis on your bar.

I think this is mostly just confusion from how the post is worded. Siphoning Strikes never restored health or promised to. The morph Leeching Strikes restores health.

I want to post after actually playing the new patch.

I gotta say: IT IS NOT THAT BAD!

They changed something with the stealth system, I was able to somehow re enter stealth mid fight. This is not an immediate thing, but it is definitely easier to do so in Cyrodiil. The stealth feels different... Hard to explain.

The crit passive also works, the character sheet reflects the 3% per assassination ability slotted, which is great.

They however did not fix the cost of dark cloak (still cannot cast it unless 700+ magicka) and idk about the DOT's thing.

This makes me want to wait for the real NB fix they are promising.

Zeni, you have my sub back! But keep on improving, there is still much to be done.

To all the unhappy people, try the new patch, I went from skeptical to convinced.

    Peace,

One of the Nightblade notes slipped through the cracks--our apologies! We've added it to the notes above, but you can also read it here:
Sap Essence (Drain Power morph): The healing this ability now does correctly increases by 20% for each target hit.

I must be REALLY bad at math as I am seeing this ability crit for 300 damage on 3 Mobs and it's healing for 78. Last I checked 20% of 300 is 60 and x3 for the mob number it hit is 180. Que paso?

I think the maths work something like this for 3 targets hit:

    x + 0.2x + 0.2x = 78
    1.4x = 78
    x = 56

So basically the heal portion of Sap healed for 56 and then had 11 added for each of the two additional targets. For a grand total of...I'm sorry. I was laughing the whole time I typed that. Those numbers are pathetic. Please tell me you are level 40.

Eesh. Kind of glad I didn't work on my Red-Diamond-Haste-Leeching-Sap Nightblade. 78 healing on an AOE skill you use every 20 seconds is incredibly horrible. Even if it heals nearby allies as well.

Shadow Cloak and Haste is yummy.
It would seem that they don't want Nightblades healing too much which is a shame..may have to do another respec.

Can you look into allowing the heal from Strife (and it's morphs) to stack up to 3 times? The heal currently doesn't compare to what is available from other classes. While it can return 30-40% health, that is over 10 secs. Allowing the heal over time to stack to 3 would help with increased survivability while still maintaining the essence of the siphoning line.

It's current form the heal is lack luster and Strife is mainly used for it's damage and with the heal being a 'bonus'. Either the initial return of health should be increased substantially or look into the HOT stacking.

    Wow...
Kudos to you Jessica, for reading through this drivel. I hope you don't have to or I hope you at least don't take any of it personally.

For me, thank you for the communication and the open-door attitude we're getting. I look forward to NBs getting better and better. It's a great class with excellent potential.

And, to be perfectly honest, they're far from broken now in AvA OR PvE. I have enjoyed quite strong success in both on my NB.

@Sheneria and everyone else... don't you think they would have fixed all of this in the past 2 months if time allowed? Bring your expectations into reality and you will be pleasantly surprised at how much these teams have accomplished in such a short period of time. You should be happy they're prioritizing issues game-wide appropriately.

As well, any of you who have worked in a high stress environment know you won't get anything but a spit-burger with negative attitudes. Be respectful of their time & patience, show some class, and you might actually get more than what you want... sooner than you expected.

They should have focused on bugfixes and balance instead on the useless content update that was the fault.

    Soooo...
I'm a level 18 Nightblade, enjoying it, but I've read that as an end-game PVP and end-game content, it's the weakest of the four.
I've also been reading that with the release of this last update, it's become even weaker.

What are your guys' takes on it? Should I reroll something else?
  • Jade_Knightblazerb14_ESO
Play how you want to play. If you enjoy NB, embrace it and enjoy it. Atleast that is what I am going to do :)

Yes, that's the Hallmark Card answer I've received from many people.
However, I know in MMO's that lower level content is always much easier than end-game content. And while I may enjoy playing this class now, if it's legitimately statistically weaker than other classes at higher levels, I will probably not be enjoying it too much (no one likes dying constantly).

Just want to see what people realistically have to say. Is it realistically something you can stick with and actually PVP with or is it something that's good up to a certain level?

in most games the broken class will not always be fixed. So if i have a chance i would make a new class, but i dont want to level again VR7 at the moment.

I dont have hope ZoS will get it right, they even dont test the recent patch, and the hole vr content is to difficult cause none seems to test the changes.

Siphoning Attacks never restored health, or at least it was never intended to. The Morphed version "Leeching Attacks" does, but the base "Siphoning Attacks" does not.

Yeah, after I actually got home from work yesterday and got it patched I was surprised how the few documented changes to a handful of things I don't even use made such a big difference to my character.

I get the impression that there may have been a number of other tweaks and optimizations they did in the background and didn't note in the patches, because my DPS was way up last night from before. I actually had to re-evaluate my combat strategies because I was killing things -faster- than I expected to and it was forcing me to think on my feet a little more.

Also, the game just seemed to run better (for me, I know lots of folks are having big problems), which helped with survivability.

I dunno, I did a lot of griping, and I'm sticking to my position the Patch 1.2.X is still too long to wait for the rest of the fixes, but after playing, Zeni has restored some of my confidence that they're at least headed in the right direction.

I'm kinda puzzled here. Dunno what to think. Nightblade has WAY more issues than they say they are trying to fix..

But I'm glad that they are buffing Refreshing Path - I hope by at least 300-500%, because hitting VR mobs for like 40 per tick was pretty absurd.. but no illusions anymore, they say they were going to buff Entropy in 1.1 and it still deals less damage than Trap Soul (for lvl 35: 175dmg/12 sec Entropy vs 190dmg/10 sec Trap Soul) which is REALLY SAD.

    how about:
    - siphonining strikes regenerating about 2.2% instead of 4% stats
    - shadowy disguise not stealthing (sometimes even 2 times in a row, even without DoTs on anything)
    - Surprise attack (and morphs) sometimes not stunning from stealth (even though they deal damage)
    - abilities have VERY weird scaling - Surprise attack has pretty much the same damage from ~lvl 30 to ~VR3, then suddenly jumps by 100%. So as a magicka based NB VR2 you will need 3 Surprise attacks to kill 1 VR caster (stealth-critting for about 400-450), while at VR4 you begin to one shot them (for 1200+, like you should). The difference in Spell Damage and Magicka (with which it scales) is not that high to explain it.

Yes, not all of us focus on the skills in question in our builds. This game is substantially less dependent on class skills than almost any other MMO out there, and you can adjust your experience substantially with guild, racial, armor, and weapon skills.

Are we playing the same game here? The weapon skills are pretty much worthless compared to the class skills.

I use both my stamina and magica; it actually helps. You might want to try my game, as apparently I'm much less unhappy playing it than you are in playing yours.

You may use both but that doesn't invalidate what I said. I use both, however a straight stamina player is going to be extremely gimped compared to a straight magicka player. Going half stamina, halfa magicka is still going to gimp you compared to going straight macigka. Throw health into the mix to actually survive veteran content and it's gimped even more, It's same across the board. Class skills > weapon skills. So to say that the game is less dependent on class skills than any other mmo out there is quite inaccurate. I am neither happy nor unhappy, but I have not deluded myself into thinking the game is one way when it's actually another.

You want to make a really good improvement to NB? We should have a passive that let's us run in stealth LIKE VAMPIRES DO! That would be a step in the right direction...

You literally gave vampires an ability that should be reserved for Nightblades. What a joke...

Nightblades are not exclusively a stealth DPS character. Stop thinking this is WoW and Nightblades are Rogues.

The LOL I gave your post wasn't because it's funny, just fyi.

That's weird. I thought they were called Nightblades? I thought that even in the character creation window they're displayed w/ dual weapons and medium armor? I thought half of our ability descriptions entail "when attacking from stealth" or to that effect.

You're entirely wrong. The class is IN FACT catered towards being a stealth DPS character. Yes, you can use these skills in creative ways to Tank, or Heal, but the core of this class is absolutely intended to be a DPS.

Experiencing Craglorn + this thread, has been like hiring a plumber to unclog your sink, only to find out he crapped in it instead.

    You wait all day.
    He shows up.
    He looks at the sink.
He pull down his pants, and craps in the sink.
Gives you your bill, and tells you he'll be back in a month to MAYBE replace the faucet handles with better ones.

I'm sure it's me and just old age but fighting Molag Bal as a 'classic' NB ( assassin/dual wield/bow) I'm finding he's impossible to kill. Frankly, I'm wondering if the NB damage is right or *is* it just me?

This follows ShedsHisTail comments fairly closely in that with the buff and correct damage, there's no reason the premiere DPS class can't take this guy down.

I think we should gather all information of bugs and skills not working as intended and the start discussing how to balance the class (class skills, not medium armor, not DW) without breaking the game so we can present it to them.

I'm quite frustrated of course, however, I already knew this patch wouldn't change much and 1.2 would take forever (some people were in denial before).

The only way I can see us getting this fix early is trying to give them useful information and a decent discussion about how to balance it. Someone could create a clean topic where the first post can be edited to include new information and keep it polite. We'll get nothing yelling at them, most likely they'll regret start talking to us in the first place and then we're even more ...
