Range reduction to interact with lootable containers?

Is it just me or do you now have to be at a very close range to loot containers, read bookshelves etc

From the patch notes "The rate at which you can earn racial motifs and provisioning recipes from lootable containers and furniture has been slightly reduced."

I wonder if they changed the range value instead.....lol. This game...seriously...

This is one of the first things I noticed upon logging in today.

And sadly, this is REALLY upsetting me lol.
Previously reachable/lootable containers are now WAY out of reach. You basically have to be right in front of the object or right up on it.

I know for a fact this really doesn't help the characters that were created to be vertically challenged.

I REALLY HOPE THEY CHANGE THIS BACK.

I wanted to reply to this even though it was originally posted weeks ago. I, too, noticed that you need to be much closer to look at bookshelves, furniture, and other lootable containers. It used to be you could stand under a cupboard mounted on a wall and open it. Now, I have to jump up and hit 'E' at just the right moment to take a look inside. Some bookshelves are stacked on top of other bookshelves. It used to be you could just look up and hit 'E' to look at the upper bookshelf. Now, in some cases, it is impossible or requires you to jump up as previously described.

Please change it back!

Now that someone has already Necroed this thread, isnt it true this is different from zone to zone?

For example the wayshrines in Shadowfen, you need to stand all the way into the middle of it to be able to press E, while other zones its close enough to be just outside the shrine.

It seems to me that universally I have to be closer than I used to to look in sacks, baskets, crates, produce containers, trunks, chests, cupboards, wardrobes, nightstands, dressers, and bookshelves. Wayshrines might be different since they don't contain any loot or books.

The additional problem that comes into play with having to get closer is that only certain portions of objects will trigger the loot mechanic, and just being closer sometimes means I have to move my cursor reticule all over the object trying to zero in on a sweet-spot to let me trigger. Considering how imprecise walking/running can be, it's a real PITA to be that accurate while making fine-tuning motions in 2 to 3 foot increments.

Some of the sweet-spots are way down low, as on sacks, and my reticule seems to be above eye level much of the time, and then while looking almost straight down at the ground (because I sometimes have to be standing so closely to the object that I stand on top of a sack, but the 'down angle' restriction limits that, too) I have to scan and paint back and forth trying to find the trigger.

And having to do that over and over means i just don't much bother to loot a lot of containers anymore. It's too frustrating and time consuming to bother for lockpicks as loot.

I have to jump onto dressers from the side, and then walk back and forth, turning in circles on top of the dresser trying to find that spot on 4 separate sacks, so I don't bother with those anymore either.

Bushels, crates, sacks all piled in front of each other against a wall? Forget it.

I used to loot a lot of the time, now it takes me twice as long for a lot less access to stuff before I just have to move on before the badguys respawn, or I just want to get OUT of the bank and into action already.

It's the little things like the above that aren't in any way game breaking, but additive on the 'why bother logging in today?' list of things that make me tired of expending effort for more frustration and less actual fun in return for my subscription dollar.

Noticed it as well would not mind a little further interaction distance towards lootable objects mainly as some of the containers and things are out of reach.

It was to stop bots from having an easy time of looting stuff. They went a little overboard on some stuff (ooh a cupboard time to jump into the air to rummage thru its contents) but overall it's not too bad.

One of those things to hope they get to next year. Waste of time to mess with it now.

Yep, same thing here, I have to stand on a barrel to be able to loot it, small sacks are even worse, it's like only a couple of pixels will trigger them.

Dwemer Ores are the worst though, both in Alik'r desert and Bangkorai: 4 out of 5 are pure decoration - after clicking, my character will sheathe his weapons but mining never happens. Missing a script there, aren't we?..

But actually, what bothers me most is that ingredients are worthless when you change zones. Jazbay grapes from Alik'r for instance will no longer be recognized as such when cooking in Bangkorai - same recipe though! This goes for countless other ingredients. I mean, there are already hundreds of recipes and ingredients in this game cluttering our inventory, it would have been nice if some dev had bothered to check they actually had the same ID everywhere, hehe...
