Necromancer Class Idea

WillFey
WillFey
Let me start by saying that I have been a fan of the series since Morrowind and I am actually pretty happy with TESO. Minimal lore breaks make me very happy- that being said stretching the lore is fine to me. I do, however wish that the game was set after skyrim, but I digress.

Classes in TESO have been met with mixed emotions. My view on this is that the mixed feeling are caused by there not being enough classes. I realize that a lot of you hate me right now for saying that but bear with me. I am not saying the limitations are good, just the choices, I believe they should let the player pick custom class, mixing together skill lines from the others. Seeing as I am doubtful this will be added the next best thing will be more class choices.

Below is my idea for a Necromancer class; for those of you who hate the idea of more classes I also have this idea, a daedra cult that ISN'T to molag bal being joinable and thus creating a new guild skill line which I believe players will take to nicely, perhaps it could be a cult to the lady of decay?

Some interesting ideas there mate, looks like you put some thought in it.Here are my thoughts about it:
1.I really liked the idea of an 'unholy' support class/skilline.It's something that is very rare in mmos (personally i haven't seen one since lineage 2,which is a long time ago) and it would be very interesting and refreshing if zenimax added something like that in the game.
2.The lich form does not seem to fit in the reanimation tree in my perspective. It is a self buffing spell suitable for nuking things and i personally would preffer a big summon (flesh atronach maybe?) as the reanimation ult.A tanking pet might be also usefull.
3.Some of the spells you suggested might be a little overpowered, like growing rage or essence theft.I prefer my necro to be a class that requires strategic play rather than a roflstomp class.
4.My biggest concern about a necro class in eso is the way pets work in this game. You hold little to no control over them and in addition i feel like they will have limited use in cyrodiil,as they will propably die very fast in sieges etc.

p.s.I couldn't help to notice that a lot of your suggestions about the necro reminded me a lot of age of conan.Did you play that game or it's just a coincidence?

Per your request, I looked at your ideas. Very well thought out, and extensive, good job. I am personally not at all a fan of necromancers in any games, just doesn't appeal to me, but I could see this working and I bet it would be fun and a good addition to the ESO game.

I have never heard of conan, sorry
Also I agree the lich ultimate should be changed, my train of thought was that reanimation was the most necromantic like skill line and that said skill line should end with the player turning into what is in essence the necromantic boss; however, after reading other posts I would love the lich to be instead made into a 3rd choice of subrace

as for the ultimate that will replace it, I thought of flesh atronach, but in my opinion that is a waste of an ultimate, the sorcs are getting screwed on their summoning and I didnt want that to happen here, now if the ultimate summoned 2 mobile flesh atronachs that were blood bound to you and shared your life I would be all for that

Lets just stop right now. Why the fudge are you asking for another class when ZOS has 4 broken classes?

While the class could work & be fun...but much of what you listed is completely OP...

i.e. double healing effects to targets under 30% health? compare that to resto staff tree, which gets...15% increase in healing effects to targets under 30% health...

or the pool everyone's magicka/stamina/health...not really sure what you mean. But if, for example, you had 10 people who each had 1,500 magicka & stamina...then everyone would share the same pool right? So, everyone would have X/15,000 for both stamina and magicka? Considering that stamina/magicka increase damage/healing, that's one hell of a buff.

Unholy sacrifice has the same issue...increase your stam/magicka/health by 50% or 100% PER MINION!, that is like having a non-ultimate ability say "This skill will cause you to deal almost 2x as much damage PER MINION YOU HAVE, with any ability for the next 30 seconds." Even standard of might only increased damage by 30% & that's an ultimate & that's a completely OP ultimate.

So...just glancing through the list, I see a max of 9 minions + any lich minions you raise + revive if that counts....So, that's between 9-13 minions you can have at a time (assuming 3 max minions from lich like other skills)...so this skill would be a +450% to +1,300% buff...were you even thinking about balance when you wrote this? I mean, come on...a buff that increases ALL of your stats by 1,300% for 30 seconds? Completely naked with no stat points used that'd put you at 14,040 stam/magicka & give you 30 seconds to recast everything...really?

Essence steal is just crazy...steal 33% or 50% of the health of ALL Enemies around you. BUT, only works if 33% or 50% of their health is more than yours (so...it won't work on wolves, but it'll work on every boss, great idea)....Pulsar only reduces max health by 13%, but hey, go for it. Lets steal 33% or 50% of a bosses over 200k health. That's not OP at all, right? Oh, and you can make it heal allies as well...

Growing rage...absorb ALL damage dealt to you, and then deal it back against ALL nearby enemies & with one morph you take no damage. So...it's a invulnerability button that then causes everything around you to take that damage...great. OOH! and it's instant cast & has no cooldown...it costs health though. Hmm...

New strategy for all boss fights: everyone has this ability, uses a resto staff, & uses grand healing. Nobody wears any clothes or armor, or anything to mitigate damage, this way you max the damage dealt to players (who won't actually take any damage, because they are using this ability). Then, everyone stands in one place, stacked on top of each other, everyone casts growing rage every 5 seconds & grand healing every 3 or 4 seconds & bosses/trash/etc all kill themselves with one ability. What fun! Every fight can now be done with a two button macro on my keyboard & I can get up and get a drink in the middle of fights without anyone caring....great!

Because ESO lacks diversity and choice, 6-8 more classes would help that
also in my other post I specified I would want to see a new class by next year, nothing right away

idk what being an mmo player has to do with not paying attention to values. Some of the most dedicated min/maxers play single player games...

Anyway, ignoring all values...invincibility buttons are pretty OP in general, adding anything onto that is kind overkill...in a game without cooldowns, like eso, they'd need some other really really strick restrictions to stop someone from being perm-invincible.

changing some of the +stats by percent to be instead something like restore health/magicka/stam & provide a regen buff would probably make them work better, and result in basically the same thing.

Pooling everyone's stats sounds good on paper...but I can imagine it being really bad in a group if for example a DPSer just spams through the whole groups magicka bar & leaves the tank/healer with no magicka.

Other than that, ignoring values the ideas are decent...though I kind of hope ZOS fixes weapon skills before adding any new classes to the game.

changing some of the +stats by percent to be instead something like restore health/magicka/stam & provide a regen buff would probably make them work better, and result in basically the same thing.

Pooling everyone's stats sounds good on paper...but I can imagine it being really bad in a group if for example a DPSer just spams through the whole groups magicka bar & leaves the tank/healer with no magicka.

Other than that, ignoring values the ideas are decent...though I kind of hope ZOS fixes weapon skills before adding any new classes to the game.

also with the pooling of resources it is not meant to boost spell or attack damage, just allow access to a larger amount.
and yes I know Dps could spam and leave tanks and healers with nothing, its on the support skill for a reason, the group would have to work together

I knew the percentages were bad but I had no basis for values, as for invincibility only bracing rage had that and only for 5 sec, but yes I see the problem there still, it needs changed

What I want more than anything; however is that first skill line, if I could just have that I would be content, even without the ultimate and replace that with two flesh atronachs, but if they did that I would hope they add liches as a sub race.

my major disappointment with ESO is how weak sub-races are; they are hated and feared for a reason. Its so annoying when players are like "what about humans? humans need perks to balan-" No, all lore and myths have the fight unbalanced in favor of the werewolves and vampires when in a fair fight.

That all being said I would love if the silver hand or dawnguard or vigil of stendarr became joinable with human perks; however, if those are added I would very much want the rest of hircine's creations and liches and gargoyles as sub races.

I was working on a Necromancer concept personally (http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/96734/necromancy-class-concept/p1) and while I intend to finish it I find your concept interesting, if extremely unbalanced.

Several spells are incredibly broken, you need to re-think and re-balance before posting your ideas. Constructive criticism here. Furthermore, I personally feel a Necromancer should focus on disease DoTs / frost damage and reanimation, much like a traditional Elder Scrolls Necromancer (see my incomplete thread for more details). I also feel that the Lich aspect should be removed (purely because I want Liches to be a world skill line), the heal tree should be replaced (you're Necromancer) and several spells need to be adjusted.
