And what's worse is that the hireling is just about one of the most useless skill point expenditures possible. Ten seconds in an Inn and I get the same items without a 24 hour wait!

No recipes. No mats that are part of a level 50 provisioning blue.

Well, if the hireling is the easiest way to get rare ingredients, i'd say it's not completely useless then?

Those ingidient are not rare at all.
You mostly can find them in Precure baskets. They can be found in other baskets aswell, but Precures always give some of them. Well, not always the once you want however.

The problem is, they are more common in noob locations and become actualy rare in high level locations. I am now in VR2 zone and i never happened to catch any Salt, Pepper or Garlic.
Also, all the provisioning mats in VR zones are the same level which would be there if you were level 1-15... Therefore you are forced to go back in regular zones in order to get some mats to create some decent food.

A few things from a Provisioner who actually sells food reasonably often:

    - VR areas are horrendously itemised for crafting ingredients atm. Most places are either the wrong level for 50+ or are just open all the time. Best place to loot is generally the level 40+ zone atm in my experience. Zenimax... fix this already.
    - I've never found a tomato or oats from any area in the game despite looting thousands of provisioning nodes. Atm I suspect they are hireling only. Salt, saaz hops, red wheat, onion etc are not rare at all but are limited due to the amount of produce baskets in the world - they can be picked up from crates/barrels but it's a fairly small chance. Pepper seems to be a bit more rare than these others. I've never seen a carrot that wasn't a "stale carrot" food item.
    - ESO Heads recipe list shows many variations of VR5 purple recipes. I've never heard of anyone having these or seen any of these drop or the crafted products of these recipes in the game. Some people on here say they have them but never give a location where they dropped. They certainly are not coming from chests/drawers/cupboards given the amount of motif looting that has happened. Either incredibly rare drop rate, very specific location with low drop rate or not in the game yet imo.

When you say VR5 purple recipes you talk about "consummate fishy sticks" and "consummate honey brittle" for example? And by rare mats there i suppose you mean "Garlic", "Salt" and "Pepper" ? Well, i have plenty of this but not the recipe.

I bought a purple level 50 recipe just to read this thread about the tomatoe matter. The price i paid for it was equal to 2 ancient elves motif books ~.~.
