Skull Crusher - DC Call To Arms

Durfang
Durfang
Soul Shriven
I am Durfang Varul, leader of the Daggerfall Foreign Legion on the DC faction of Skull Crusher shard.

Many DC have gotten fed up with the AD domination of this shard and have fled. The EP are suffering a similar problem in their ranks. I want to not only state that my guild and I refuse to abandon hope, tuck our tails, and run... But also call out to those who turned and ran from our fields to return and stand beside us!

Look for me on the battlefield. Look for my officers as well... Names you may already recognize: Elrendir Lightstrider, Silus Atrius Victus, Lady Rai'el Highsong, Sangin, Ellowen.

We will be there. You are not alone. Come fight beside us. Glory is waiting.

Voted awesome because I want more people on our campaign. I love fighting against you guys even though I am terrible, makes me think of how I should be fighting rather than how I do currently

Rhaenys, you are probably one of the few truly respected AD players on our side of the fence. See you on the field, hopefully as a corpse ;)

churchill had the right attitude - we shall NEVER surrender, even during our darkest hours

on a separate note would you like to put together a 5 man team to join our unofficial 5v5 bash tomorrow - EP challenged us and we have a couple of teams - would be great to see a DC team in the mix also

    D.:

Is there a specific level spread for the 5v5? And are you looking at a 3 way battle, or each faction battles one another separately? I can try to get 5 people together for it, because that sounds like a lot of fun, at least from what I read on the previous forum.

not a 3 way battle - we would first need to settle the initial challenge that some EP players set up - but we all agree that the more folks from ALL factions in skull crusher that we can get involved in this, the better for those still trying to hang on in the campaign

i would recommend that you msg @‌Ralonasan

if you don't make it for tomorrow's 'event' i am sure we'll be holding more if it's fun for those involved

I picked Skullcrusher as my home campaign in early access, but I rarely visited because I was busy leveling and it seemed like every time enough motivated people got on to make even a medium sized raiding party, things would fall apart in little time after getting zerged. It's still my home campaign, but I decided to guest on Wabbajack this past weekend. What a difference! Even at slow times you could find a decent sized group, and I went from either Volunteer or Recruit to Legionary.

This 5 x 5 event sounds like the kind of thing that can help jump-start a campaign. I'm not hoping to get to the numbers sometimes seen on Auriel's Bow or Wabbajack, since too few players still want to do PvP. Many think they cannot contribute unless they are Veteran Rank (not true!), and adjusting to it can be intimidating or confusing to some ages and personality types. But, having one or two set events per week at fixed times is a much better spark for generating sustained interest than the sporadic and stochastic occasions when enough people just happen to show up at the same time.

So, other than 5x5, what other creative events or challenges could be done?

I'll volunteer to toss out an idea. On Wabbajack there was a recent battle for a keep housing an Elder Scroll in which EP held off multiple and massive waves of DC and AD, then a quasi-alliance of DC and AD, for hours. Perhaps an advertised event where a random keep is selected to be the sole focus would generate some heat? Whoever holds it when the time for the event begins gets to be on defense and the other two can choose to work together or not initially. Yet, as happened on Wabbajack, after the keep fell and the scroll was seized, the two sides would have to fight each other over the spoils.

The official winner would be the one holding the keep at a fixed ending time. I would suggest dropping a scroll the keep as the prize and whoever controlled it at the buzzer would be victorious but I don't see many people getting behind this. At this point AD would have to volunteer to be the defender in order to offer such a prize. Nevertheless, playing for keeps could still make for a good evening of PvP.

If the guilds active on Skullcrusher pushed this and like events, even the unaffiliated and random players checking in would get drawn in and more of them might start playing regularly. In any case, best of luck in getting something going!

This server is also my home and I have no intent to leave. I guested at other ones, but I can't play with them because too many people mindlessly throw zergs at everything and use no tactics. The challenge on Skull Crusher will only make us better at PvP in general.

I do like your idea of getting more involved and holding events. Reading the other two faction's responses on forums makes me believe they would also participate fairly. I would participate in these events, we would just have to find a way to regulate randoms from violating any predetermined rules.

yes - it isn't after all a private server, and we can only request. not stop, other players from our alliance who are trying to play/enjoy the game also, to not interfere in a scheduled AD/DC/EP event like the 5v5

i think once the little skirmish swords appear on the map where we will be holding the event, it will be like trying to stop sharks from swimming towards the scent of blood in the ocean!

i'm in full support of the keep capture event - as things stand right now i think we'd be able to defend it with no problem - so weird as it might sound, the Noore would be happy to try help organize an event that they would then agree to not participate in

today we placed the scroll of alma ruma that we retook, in castle brindle, right on your home lands - it makes it easier for DC to capture and run back - though it truly is an uphill task at the moment for your numbers to be able to maintain sustained pressure in the campaign

it's probably not of much consolation, especially coming from those that many see as the villains and cause of the situation, that you have our full respect

just yesterday had a fun time with somebody called Nameless Wander and some of us sparred together with him - later on in the day we had some 2v2 bouts with some EP guys - when you look at it it's kind of sad that we consider 1 or 2 of these minor and isolated incidents as progress

at least with the 5v5 tournament it can be the nest step

perhaps it evolves into something where only players who have SC as their home campaign can participate for the true 'title' - and others can be in an 'invitational' tournament - with the hope that they might see the fun, if not the numbers, and come over and call SC home also, or at least guest here for DC and EP

That's a good point, I forgot about the swords. 1v1 events might be more practical for that reason. (Or is there a size limit before the swords appear? Not sure about that.)

If it's a problem, I would suggest moving to a new location every 3rd fight or so. But I'm not sure that many people would show up to break things up, particularly from DC/EP, if the location is pretty remote. Please make it remote, actually. One thing that always bothered me when this stuff was organized in DAoC was when people did it in high traffic areas then freaked out when you attacked them, as if it's a safe zone and reacting only after asking questions is practical when encountering an enemy. It's possible to setup organized events but, like you said, you can't stop other players from enjoying the game in their own way as well.

hrmmm- true - our original thought was an area between sejanus and blue road keep, but given your comments above i'll try scout out something right now that would be out of the way and yet accessible for all 3 alliances

That's one of the reason's I suggested the siege tournament. It doesn't matter what other players agree to. They can join in regardless of wanting to "compete" or they can ignore it. It also let's everyone who wants to be involved to participate. But like any such event coordinating between the alliance guilds is the challenge.

I suspect there is sometimes a blurring between player and character in the minds of those going to compete in PvP. Losing to superior numbers or tactics may be frustrating or aggravating, but it is hardly unfair in terms of the actions of the winning players. It's the abuse of exploits and poor attitude that players of any alliance might potentially display that is reasonable to get upset over. So far my character has been defeated at numerous inconvenient times ("I was almost to that skyshard and now the closest respawn site is my alliance gate! Argghh!") but thankfully I've not encountered any dirty tricks on Skullcrusher.

yup - i think it was a success despite being a bit chaotic - first time event etc - was great of you to come out and join the fun

for the next event we'll try have some prizes, some more defined rules about rez'ing, whether you can come in the ultimates preloaded etc so that there isn't a 'wtf' moment

ty to all who came, and thanks to zone in AD who didn't come and mess up the 5v5 event

Have to say as a spectator, this was just awesome! Sitting with the enemy and yes, even tho we had to stare at the naked DC who kept dancing in front of us during the field PvP battles  it was awesome. I want to thank those in the DC (and EP) who came to take part, to watch and to simply be part of something very unique in the young history of this game!

    'Twas wicked sweet!

D, great job organizing this event! It was quite educational listening to you game-plan how the event would take place, keeping the crowd (in AD) in control, etc....well done mate!

    we'll be putting another together

and yes - we'll be posting a video of it

since it was informal and unorganized there were no brackets etc and so it was more a matter of a 5v5 here, a 2v2 there, a 1v1, another 5v5 etc

suffice it to say that the overwhelming response is that it was a ton of fun and let's do another

i apologise for some of the confusion during the event - trying to message some of the participants in other alliances to see who was ready to fight when and against whom and then messaging the 'whom' etc was cumbersome

it looks like we will have a 512 man TS3 server available for the next event and each team will be able to have it's own room, and they will not be able to hear any other room other than the event coordinator - spectator rooms for each faction will be set up as well as a spectator room that folks from any faction can be in

as is the case with events like these in a pvp zone, they can quickly be derailed by some folks being stupid and grief killing, so we will be trying to be selective as to who is invited for future events
