I mean Enchantments, for instance, if I pay 200 for the Glyph but 500 for the soulgem it's easier to replace the glyph. Same with armour, 150 to buy a light armour but 400 to repair it? pffft.

Replacing items instead of repairing works well in the low levels, but when you get to higher levels it is definitely worth repairing your equipment. It is hard to get some items and you end up paying more and taking more time to buy a new set instead of just simply repairing it.

Obviously you are not understanding what I am saying. The gold sink will still be there. The crafters would still have to either pay a materials fee (ding ding ding! gold sink) or use their own materials (ding ding ding! gold sink) to repair the armor.

I understand completely, you are trying to replace the existing system and lessen the gold cost to the player. Even if they adopted the system you are proposing, the gold cost would still be in there, for it to do what the designers intended. So you would be adopting a new and imho more cumbersome system to achieve an identical result, which is removing X gold from the system.
Thematically I, as a crafter, would prefer to be able to repair my own equipment, but it's cleaner for the designers to do it this way. It is a variable they can control directly, and they can modify it, by either decreasing the cost, if it is removing gold too quickly or by modifying item decay, so you need to repair less often.
I appreciate what you are wanting to do, but the only reason to do that, aside from a thematic reason, is to shift where the gold is coming from, the existing system works fine for that and doesn't involve there needing to be a player interaction.
As to using your own materials, though that is technically a gold sink, it's a tertiary sink, and its cleaner for them to use coin directly than involving materials and material equivalence into the process.

LOL, I'm vr8 at the moment and I have so much unused skill points ... up to ~20, considering 3 professions fully leveled and active, 2 full weapon trees, full light armor tree... and 2 class trees ...
So, basically, following the original idea of the post, anyone should be able to fix their gear.... for free (except the materials cost, that is out of the account due to the materials availability literally everywhere in the world)...
not going to happen

m8, it's all about the skill points.
literally everyone is able to level up and use 3 (or even more) professions simultaneously, without any serious impact on the main skill lines. Every character is able to do so.
Can you see the key part of this ? yea, the skillpoints...
Basically, the idea is nice, due to the players interactions part, but pointless due to the number of available skill points in the game.
