Why lie about Hirelings?

I read on here somewhere that it is because they don't want people setting up 8 characters and just having a plethora of mats coming in, and then collecting them all once a week (or really, gold sellers doing this)

I say this as somebody who has 6 level 3 alts for this exact purpose lol - so I am not agreeing with it, just passing on the reasoning i have read.

Sorry i dont have the thread.

It was a design decision to make level 3 alts with literally no functional playtime after skipping the intro able to have hirelings. It was a bad design decision if they are concerned about people having low-level alts just for the hirelings. They could change that design decision - tie hirelings to higher skill levels, make their availability dependent on a quest, limit players to 1 hireling until a certain level, or whatever.
A level 3 can't get a level 3 Hireling (and face it, level 1 and even level 2 are largely pointless) without a LOT of time and effort in obtaining materials and items to deconn using a 'main' and also the non-trivial task of obtaining enough Shards to get the SPs needed.

So your comment "no functional playtime" is clearly wrong and the "tie hirelings to higher skill levels" is how ZOS implemented it.

I repeat, a level 1 Hireling is pointless and having 1000 of them would have no meaningful impact on the game overall. Level 2s begin to rarely bring home blues or purples but so infrequently again the impact is minimal.

An army of level 3s takes a LONG time to build and a lot of effort .. or visiting the gold sellers .. to achieve.

It seems that you may be misinformed. Until recently, people created as many low level alts as possible with the level 1 hireling. Sure, it's one delivery per 24 hour period. However the power in that lies with going through a routine of logging into each of them daily. When their deliveries come, it's not necessary to open it on that character. Because it shows up in the account mail.

Simply log off and log onto your main who is higher level and open the delivery. Collect your much higher level ingredients.

Since this issue has been addressed in a recent patch, I've noticed basically the same thing. My main (who started crafting and abandoned it later) gets 4 hireling deliveries. They go to his account mail. If I leave them there and open them on my crafter (who gets 4 hireling deliveries), I still get high quality items. Most, but not all of the time. I do in fact see blue/purple mats. Just not as many as before.

    This.
I get around 22 mails from hirelings/day. I log onto each of my alts to "tag" mails they've received, but I open them (take attachment) only on my crafting char. Thus I only get materials that are proportioned to my crafter who has skill points allocated only in crafting (every crafting line except Alchemy).
They are supposed to nerf this in a way that you will get materials that are proportioned to the hireling's char, not the one that takes attachments out of the mail. To me, personally, it will be another reason to cancel my sub prematurely. I simply cannot accept limitations to my gameplay that are the result of their incompetence of dealing with bots and gold sellers.

I have so many issues with the current Hireling system in place...

First off, Hireling mails should be cummulative for the day they're sent. If you're supposed to receive two per day in real time, you should receive BOTH of those same Hireling mails at the SAME time in one batch, with more loot to collect from the attachments due to both mails being merged. It's annoying enough that we have to log-out and log back into each of the characters on our account to receive their Hireling mails twice daily because they aren't sent unless you log-on with that specific character

Secondly, the in-game UI needs to send a Notification that one of your characters can redeem the items received from their Hireling's mail, no matter what character you are logged on, in your Notifications List. While ZeniMax is at it, why not make the Notifications List display a notification for when horses are ready to be fed or researches are finished account-wide either? The Notifications List in the game needs to ACTUALLY serve a purpose for something.

Lastly, the issue with Hireling mail items not being character specific should be resolved. When you receive a mail item, it should be for the crafting level that that particular character has on your account--not all of them. This would fix the issue of people still receiving low-grade crafting materials, or even no materials at all, once they reach higher levels on said character.

I stopped wasting skill points on hirelings some time ago. They aren't dependable enough or provide enough high quality items to get any benefit.

just who's fault is this ? If players hadn't abused the hirelings, then zos wouldn't have needed to apply a fix. I have 2 wood workers and 4 hirelings, haven't received 1 legendary since fix and only have found 4 of them ever.

In what way is using a system to it's fullest (their design) considered an abuse? If devs are incapable of properly testing and implementing changes, it's not players' fault.

I have a feeling that the hirelings got a ninja nerf. I almost NEVER see legendary (yellow) mats any more. I used to see them quite a bit. Sigh...

actually I got 2 last night in one bag

I just recently went to 3/3 in Hireling for blacksmithing and woodworking and have been wondering why it doesn't seem to be giving me mail twice a day. I end up with one mail which sometimes is very disappointing, like, "Wow, 4 hickory. That was worth the 24 hour wait."

Sometimes I get the hireling mails when I log in, sometimes I don't. I have yet to figure out exactly when I have to log in in order to get them on a consistent basis.

My problem isn't the material I recieve, what kind it's.

My problem is that since they are not a certian time every day they deliver the mail.
If you log on at the evening around 23:00 and then go to sleep and work the day after and can't logon until 17:00. Then it has passed 18 hours since your last login and you get hirelings mail but then you won't get any new mails from hirelings until 05:00 in the morning. Since you didn't log on for 18 hours you have moved forward the timer for recieving the hirelings mail with 6 hours.

They are supposed to deliver mail twice a day at 3/3 but only if you can log on like 08:00 in the morning and 20:00 in the evening and for many people this mean they have to get up early and log on before work or something to get the full benefit from this.

On the flip side, say you have all 8 characters with all hirelings, and the mail is delivered at the same time every day. You would be unable to get it all at once, because the mail box isnt that big. 8 characters 5 types of Hirelings that's 80 email a day at max. seems like log in delivery is the best idea when you think about it this way

[snip] mails me every day, without fail. ZOS should hire [snip] to run the hirelings thing and get them out of the RMT business.

First it started out broken - it should have never been abusable by toon swapping. Every mail from the hireling show have been addressed to the 'toon involved and it should have been based on the crafting level (or possibly character level) of the 'toon who ordered from the hireling. This is sort of obvious.
Second you should get a least the amount promised per day - and if you don't clean out your mailbox it stops whether or not you log in. This is a no brainer if you have 8 'toons at maximum hireling level you will run out of mailbox space. Its self limiting.
Third its riduclous people are not getting their promised mats.
