Yes a hireling is cute and yes the mudcrab is kindy quirky but I want a companion I'm not embarrassed to be seen with !

I want a polar bear, or a wolf, or (my personal choice) a Sabrecat ! And I don't mean a tiny little thing scampering behind me. I want the full sized, omg look at me version !

Now don't get this mixed up with in game pets like the Clanfear, I don't expect them to do anything, just a visual addition to my characters persona ! Give them as achievements, let us buy them using achievement points. (Buyable from the stables maybe?)

Well that's my two-cents worth !

EDIT - NO, you can't have a mammoth (although be funny as hell) and they have to de-spawn on entering a building !

No. Companion pets are not meant to make you look "badass". They're cute little pets. That's all.

Because they aren't there to help you in combat. Big, "cool" pets are for fighting. Mudcrabs are for loving.

i dont really like the pets.

i suppose if they were bigger, like you are suggesting, that might be better ?

and if they were more awesome.

as it stands i have not seen a pet that i liked.

Which is why we need 'cool' pets. Mudcrab or Sabrecat... know which I'd choose !

    yeh. that might be good.

probably the best pet type things ive seen were in star wars. theyve got these hologram things you can buy. some of them are quite big and they look really cool.

obviously holograms might break the lore of ESO a bit. so maybe not those.

Only if they auto unspawned in cities would bigger pets be acceptable. Crowded enough already.

In cities no, cities should look crowded. In buildings... yes definitely auto-despawn !

I agree.. Some smaller pets that are gained from quests/achievements would be nice. Such as a bear cub, hawk, snake, and etc. Nothing large, but still very neat to have. I do not see any drawbacks to having this option.

Keep in mind.. The taste of pets we currently have is already a hint that there may be more. I hope they will be things you can earn, but I bet they lean more towards things you buy with IRL funds from the ESO store...

Things such as emotes, pets, and outfits will all be items they may try to sell for IRL funds and I almost bet they will. I know runescape is a poor example, but they have proven it is a very popular money making method for a company and that it has no true impact on the gameplay itself.

Pets are pets. Non-combat pets. Only sorcs have combat pets. Pets are not companions.

Companions are the humanoid npcs that 'help' you in quests. Actually because the way they are programmed, companions mostly help you die by breaking crowd control. :\

I predict that non-combat pets will magically transform and no longer take up inventory space when ZOS starts selling pets in the store.

I really hope we don't go down the pets for sale route (seriously) But yes agree pets should not take up bag space. Maybe they could go into the quest tab maybe?

I remember seeing a tv interview of a guy who created virtual pets and he didn't sound at all like a software engineer. He was talking about sales to housewife gamers and profit margins on virtual pets. If it really is still that lucrative, why wouldn't eso sell them too. I was pleasantly surprised when I got the mechanical pet as a quest reward for the level 40-something quest line in Bangkorai. The mechanical is a very nice pet. I'm not a virtual pet person but I might have been tempted to pay $10 to buy it if it had been for sale. I wouldn't have paid money to buy the mudcrab or scuttler pet separately.
