Are we even allowed to play the game anymore?

And again... if this game isn't completely cooked already, it's only a matter of time. Because this dam game is completely [snip].

Trials are already a damn mess because of DPS power creep.
And now it's dungeons too?

How sad is this?
  1. Grab all the pledges.
  2. Queue as my correct role.
  3. Wait for the queue.
  4. Enter veteran Lep Seclusa. All I want to do is play the damn game... that's it.
  5. They immediately skip all the trash.
  6. At Lewin Frey, they all try to skip him. I stay and start fighting him because I just want to actually play.
They get mad because I just want to play. So I said: "im here to play the game. You want to skip? Play alone, or kick me".
A vote-kick solves the problem for everyone. They get the group they want, and I can queue again without any penalty.
No drama. No arguing. Just a simple vote-kick.

Since the moderator removed the image, I transcribed the screenshot to keep the topic with as much context as possible.
[14:53] @L*******g: why wold you do that
[14:53] @U********04: say something next time...
[14:53] @L*******g: come here
[14:53] @L*******g: dont trigger again
[14:54] @Valkanos: I'm here to play. You wanna skip? play alone or kick me
[14:54] @L*******g: [snip][snip][snip]
[14:54] @U********04: you can but you [snip] say before triggering?
[14:54] @Valkanos: You can't handle veteran? go normal
[14:54] @U********04: we can handle vet, we can't handle no communication
[14:54] @L*******g: its not about that you room temp IQ [snip]
[14:55] @L*******g: its auto kills ppl not in the arena
[14:55] @L*******g: say so if u want to kill
[14:55] @L*******g: [snip][snip]
[14:55] @L*******g: you dont have to roleplay your character name
[System] Your group members voted to kick you from the group.

But of course, just a vote-kick wasn't enough...
And this is the result...
The price I pay for playing the game.
The price I pay for having ESO+.
The price I pay just for logging in...

[snip]

Dear ZoS... can we even play this game anymore? Without being offended, excluded, gatekept, or whatever other reason people come up with...
Can we just play the damn game?

Congratulations. You have really managed to create one of the most toxic communities in gaming. Congratulations!
Btw, I did report it... Please don't forget to reply with the usual: "No action has been taken against the reported account".

It’s a multiplayer game so you know you sign up for playing with other people; good or bad. It is like that in all multiplayer experiences.

If that infuriates you so much, you should invest time in single player RPG’s. There everything is fully under your control. No reason to get that worked up about a videogame.

I can recommend Blood Of The Dawnwalker. It’s amazing storytelling and role playing and one of the best games I played this year.

I'm a "slow dungeon" type of player.
I don't rush, I don't skip, I loot chests and heavy sacks, and if I'm on a new character, I do the quests and read the lorebooks. Because of this, I don't run with PUGs to avoid bad experiences like yours.
I joined a guild from my own country (so language isn't an issue) and I do dungeons with people who enjoy a relaxed pace just like me.
    That's the key.

It's been like this for years. If you want to do anything vet, do it with friends. The cretins on every side (rushing and being carried) are everywhere in the mid-tier PvE community. Normal dungeons are also a cesspit of fake tanks and healers mixed with newbies who struggle due to fake tanks not taunting, along with the supposed DPS-gods that hit like a wet noodle.

Urgh. This game has an awesome early game and late game community, along with a fantastic PvP community who are always interested in off meta things, while also having the most incomprehensibly toxic mid-tier PvE community. It's jarring how both good and bad this community can be.

Reminds me of my Rogue days in WoW, where elaborate sapping strategies to skip a pack more often than not end with an unprepared pull or even locking half the DPS out of the combat. Even worse in SWTOR where the sapper might very well be the Assassin tank...

Orange bar has a point though, communication is key, but that goes both ways.

This is the main reason I stopped playing PvE regularly years ago, aside from there being no real point to it. If I need a vet dungeon done I ironically do it with PvP friends. The PvE community is bigger so by nature you'll run into more toxicity likely, but whatever the reason attributed, they seem more more aggro much more likely to flame you up and just all around impatient and unpleasant.

So, since this is a multiplayer game, I guess we should just accept:
    ESO = queue -> skip -> skip -> skip -> *** -> kick-> skip -> skip -> loot -> leave.

Nah... this doesn't seem right at all.
How in the hell is this okay for so many of you? And, how is this okay for ZoS? Since ZoS doesn't seem to be taking any real action to address this.

I am pretty sure most pvers play with their guilds or specific group of friends to avoid issues like this. I switched to tank also instead to switch up the power dynamic in the group and have more control. People usually wont kick a tank and if they do lol I'll find a game faster than them. But its never happened for me. Its dps that end up getting kicked or people in fake roles etc.

With all due respect.... you started it.

Engaging an optional mini boss without communicating with your group is rude. If you had said you needed the gear or buffs (although iirc this boss doesn't give a buff) or what have you, I'm sure they would have been happy to do it. Even a simple heads up would have given them warning you wanted the minis.
You started it. Asking you to say something if you want an optional boss is a fair ask. You didn't have to be rude about it.
To act like that and then come to the forum pretending to be a victim is nonsense behavior.

Okay, based on your telling of the events and the screenshot of the conversation, here's what I could piece together:

    1. You wanted to do the optional mini-boss.
    2. The rest of the group was moving forwards and skipping the mini-boss.
    3. You gave zero communication about your desire to fight the mini-boss.
    4. You started the fight with the mini-boss.
    5. The rest of the group got insta-killed because they were outside the arena when you pulled.
    6. They made it clear that they needed communication from you about wanting to fight the mini-boss, and that they were actually willing to kill the optional mini-boss with you if you had said something.
    7. You escalated the situation.

I'm siding with the group on this one. This is a multiplayer game; you are responsible for your own ability to communicate.

Sorry to see it, I feel your pain. But I clearly see what your group mates asked:
Communicate before you do something apart from the rest of the group.
It was a group part of MMO you played.

In this situation you acted as a selfish player, and they acted as group players.
You silently require everybody to play the game your way, instead of communicating with the group. Considering you'd seen what happens with trash, you knew what would be next on the boss, and you intentionally made your silent move. For sure it ends with drama.

Well, it is your choice how to gather groups and how to run with random players.
The only question is why you mark the game bad? Because it allows people to play the game the way they want, but you don't want them to?

    I agree.

When I join a random PUG (in whatever game) you are part of the group and democracy rules. If the majority wants to have a specific playstyle I either adapt or leave.

If I want a curated playstyle where I am the boss, I create my own group and set rules or look for a group of people with the same playstyle (either guild, group finder, zone chat, ...).

This is not a ZOS problem, but rather a player expectation issue.

I know they won’t interfere with vote-kicking, as that’s there to settle issues of incompatible gameplay styles (as apparently here) or to remove a genuinely problematic player, so OP is going to have to navigate that issue. It’s a pain point, but a difficult one to solve in that it has to do with conflicting gameplay styles.

But we are by no means required to subject ourselves to the kind of hate speech on display there (and which has now been removed for violating the forum rules on language). The ToS/CoC say the exact opposite. It’s a problem when the people in charge of upholding that don’t. If Support won’t uphold ToS/CoC when it comes to clear violations, ZOS needs to change the ToS/CoC so we know what to expect. Changing that to allow hate speech, etc., would at least let us all know where they stand. Saying it’s a violation and then saying it’s not is mixed messaging about an important issue on top of serving to perpetuate it.

Unfortunately people have said and continue to say things like this—blatant hate speech, ethnic/racist/etc. jokes, jokes involving real world mass murderers and child abusers, etc.—that are “not a violation.” It’s rampant and worsening because Support frequently doesn’t support the ToS/CoC when these violations are brought to their attention. Can’t reach anyone else for help either. Just the same Support folks who seem to think nothing is a problem. At that rate just don’t have that in the ToS/CoC.

The r-word should be obvious (it was even 20 years ago), and there’s no excuse for encouraging it to come back into mainstream by giving it a pass. Given how many people (even school-age kids IRL) have brought back the term “monkey” as a racial epithet, I might follow up with a reference for them about how that’s used to spread hate in online communities. It’s not clear to me if Support is aware of that (despite familiarity with such language being key to their job of determining whether it’s compliant with the ToS/CoC or not). But I’m not optimistic that the response would change even if it were explained to them, since they reject explanations of other clear hate speech (even ones the CMs say shouldn’t be permitted! Support and ZOS do not appear to be on the same page on this.)

I know some people think any language should be permitted, but ZOS (like the vast majority of other companies overseeing online interactions in social media) has set clear boundaries that we agreed to in order to play ESO. Those terms need to be upheld or removed. Not a show of taking a stand against hate speech in the ToS/CoC followed by condoning and perpetuating it when it occurs in game.

If ZOS doesn’t mind the discussion devolving into 4chan, they should say so and I’d be happy to find another game (along with others I know have run into this issue). But the problem seems to be that ZOS doesn’t want that and Support doesn’t want to do what’s necessary to support ZOS.

    2) @HatchetHaro, yes. It's all my fault. Not because I "escalated the situation", as you said. All I said was: "kick me out," and that would have worked perfectly fine for me.
But apparently, I "escalated the situation" simply because I logged in to do some pledges. And that, without any question, is 100% my fault.
I logged into the game to play the game. But I truly understand what state this game is in. When we have players like you, we need to ask for permission to play the game. Because otherwise, we open the door to insults and "escalating the situation".

Skipping all the starting trash isn't? No one asked me if I wanted to skip. No one said absolutely anything, not even "hi", until I made the first attack after we entered the dungeon.
So... it's rude because I didn't ask permission to play the content? The same content they all queued for? I see...

Did they ask my permission to skip? No. Isn't that rude too? No!?
So how in the hell... ah, never mind. Yes, yes. I assume it's my fault. I was rude for trying to actually play the game.

Sample size: one (1) dungeon. Conclusion: somehow ESO is on the same level of toxicity as COD, Rust, Ark, etc.

You can’t even skip all the trash, you have to kill them to open doors. Were they running through, dying, and killing the last trash pack before the door? Or just doing huge trash pulls?

Regardless, might’ve been a group of 3 that queued. In that case, refer to this being a sample size of ONE.

Your frustrations are understandable! Enough people in the thread have beaten you up about your communication and whatnot. Here are some TIPS though that might actually *help* in the future about ESO gaming culture (the things you aren't told, just have to learn):

    1. People use the queue to rush through their dailies. You might get a hello at the start, but the likelihood is that you'll get 3 dps and a tank or 4 dps and 1 with a taunt (if you're lucky) and you're going to do ONLY the bosses needed for the pledge. You MIGHT get mobs. You likely will not get side bosses. The queue is SLOW if you're a dps, so you'll also get fake tanks and healers who, again- if you're lucky, have a taunt and a group heal.
    2. If you want to do the STORY in a dungeon, kill the mobs or extra bosses, or even exchange gear at the end or do the quest, you need to either COMMUNICATE IT and hope your random queue people 1) speak your language or 2) give a crap about your request...... or just run with friends/guild members. If you're new or not in a guild or don't like group content... there ARE guilds out there who focus on doing JUST THIS! I've seen them advertise as like... "dungeon storyline runners" or similar. They take their time, crank up the volume, read all the lore books, etc. It doesn't mean they snuggle up until the wee hours of the night sharing secrets, they just........ play the game the way they want (together).
    3. You can build your own groups using the group finder tool now! You can put in a description of everything you're after (Pledge, story, all the mobs, no rushing, etc etc) and then people of like-mind will join you :) It might take a *little* longer, but you won't have to HOPE you get the right folks and HOPE they don't just vote-kick you. You can better tailor your gaming experience that way.
    4. Zone chat is another good way to build groups. I have, COUNTLESS TIMES, joined a person who just sounds...... fun. I might not be even DOING that right now- but they sold it well! In an MMO- you just have to find your people, and sometimes they're lurking on grahtwood zone chat! :3
    5. The forum is not a good place to come and be validated. You will likely get ripped apart. Ask me how I know! That said: your frustrations are something almost every ESO gamer has experienced in some way at some time, and they either stay and figure out the culture and where their people are and needs/wants can be met- or they leave. Find your people in the game, they're unlikely to be here!!

I hope you get your dungeon and side boss. I didn't do a couple of new dungeons for almost 4 months because I wanted to wait and do it blind and couldn't find anyone, even though I lead TWO large guilds. Sometimes it just be like dat tho <3

How is this NOT a ZOS problem?
Sure, people can be rude. That's nothing new. But when the game allows players to skip the content, and then penalize the people who actually want to play that content, how is that not a game design problem?
How is it okay that someone who wants to play the dungeon is the one who gets punished, while the people skipping everything are rewarded?
If the system consistently allows one group of players to dictate how everyone else has to play, and there are no real consequences for that behavior, then yes, I absolutely think that's a ZOS problem.
It's not just about people being decent or indecent. It's about the game and its systems creating an environment where the player who actually wants to play the game is the one getting kicked, insulted, and penalized for it.

    How is THAT okay?

So, I have to spend my time waiting in the queue, only for other players to skip the entire dungeon and get rewarded for it?!?!
I wanna play the game... and what do I get? I get insulted and kicked.
If I wanna play the dungeon, is it really okay for me to get kicked 10x because everyone else wants to skip everything?!?! They skip the entire dungeon and still the rewards?!
    No. This is not right.
This isn't ESO anymore. It's nothing more than a [snip][snip] game that rewards bad behavior while penalizing the players who actually want to play the game.

Given that this was veteran DLC, fake tanks shouldn’t be a problem. They will die, or everyone else will if they don’t catch aggro. But in light of your kindness, I would like to add my own advice: I have not had great trouble with the veteran queue on PC/NA but if I solo queue, I queue as tank. I have the celerity CP and “rapids” from alliance war to even out the speed of the group. That combined with leaving to pull next trash as the previous is dying (an AoE pull helps with this) and sprinting, I control the dungeon. No one’s getting ahead of me unless they’re determined to do so, and if they want to run past and pull (very rare problem for me) then they can suffer the consequences of not having a tank.

Eeeeeh it's not just a sample size of one. There's enough of us out here who have relentlessly bad luck with RNDs to say there's a broad problem with toxicity in the mid-tier PvE community. At least in Ark, Rust, and COD you can hit someone back when they're being a bit of a flumbleglump.

Actually, in your story you was trying to dictate how everyone else has to play.

Players can go kill every mob and check every corner. It's normal way to play.
Players can skip everything skippable and go for reward. It's normal way to play too.

If you want guaranteed style of playing - you should find not random people, but people with same desire. Not to dictate others that they must kill every trash in dungeon they may dislike or were doing this dungeon tenth time in a row. Or at least say what you want from this run in the beginning.

Let me tell you a story. Once there was an Imperial consul stationed in Blackwood who wanted to hire workers for his vineyard. The workload was heavy, so he headed to the labor market before dawn. There he spotted an Argonian and agreed on a wage with him. At midday, he went back and hired another Argonian in the same fashion. In the afternoon, he still found himself short‑handed, so he hired yet another Argonian as he had done before. By evening, one more worker was needed to wrap up the work. He returned to the labor market and saw an Argonian standing there. He asked him, “What are you doing here? Why are you looking for work so late?”

The Argonian replied, “Ah, if my kinsmen told you I am lazy, that is true. Most days I prefer to lie about in the mud, yet I take odd jobs to get by.” The consul struck a bargain and hired him as well.

When payday came, he called the Argonians forward. He gave the first Argonian one gold coin, the sum they had agreed upon. The second Argonian also received one gold coin. The third had arrived at midday and done far less work than the first two, yet the consul gave him one gold coin too. The first two said nothing, knowing that though this Argonian had started late, he had endured the blazing heat.

When it was time for the last Argonian to collect his pay, the first three, aware of his reputation for laziness, waited to mock him. But the consul gave him one gold coin all the same.

Furious, the three Argonians confronted the consul. “Why do you pay him the same as us when he has done so little work? Who will want to labour for you after this?”

The consul led them outside the estate to a disabled Argonian beggar, who scraped by on the kindness of his fellow Argonians. Nearly every local Argonian had given him alms, for they regarded one another as brothers sprung from the same tree. The consul tossed a gold coin into the beggar’s bowl and said, “You hypocrites. I have paid you what we agreed. Do you begrudge me for showing charity?”

What moral does this story teach? Standards you hold up as justice, when imposed upon others, may themselves become injustice.

You claimed that those three players ought to be punished for voting to kick you, and that ZeniMax Online Studios would be complicit in wrongdoing if they took no action. Are you not like those three Argonians, calling your own feelings justice?

I say this: you can ease your anger by understanding the behaviour of speed‑run players, and find a joy rooted in empathy as you learn to see things from others’ perspectives. You may of course hold onto your anger and keep filing reports, but what will you gain in the end? I hope your rage does not take a toll on your own well‑being.

Sample size: one (1) dungeon. Conclusion: somehow ESO is on the same level of toxicity as COD, Rust, Ark, etc.

If OP had at least complained about more than one dungeon run, I think it would be more acceptable. I was pointing out that this is a lot over one (1) run. That said, I have largely not suffered in pugs like most seem to and I’m not exactly sure why that is, it would be good to find out. I usually chalk it up to 3 things: veteran queue, tanking, and my expectations. But that’s just me guessing.

I see what you're saying and sympathize greatly.

But....is this a zos problem or is it a generalized people problem we have now days? Since a certain man became powerful it seems a whole subset of people are using it as an excuse to be total (snips). This doesn't seem like a zos problem to me. It seems more just like the overall decline in decency we're seeing far too much of these days.

    100% disagree.
It's a design issue with the game. It does not matter what game, what era, if you allow people to abuse something, it will get abused. This has been proven time and time and time and time again since the inception of games.

What we see in game today has nothing to do with real world politics, the very idea is asinine.
