Ticks every 7.5 seconds instead of every 2 seconds like most targeted DoTs.

Hold up, can we stop pretending that Ele Sus only does damage every 7.5 seconds? I keep seeing this in this thread and it's false. Ele Sus deals damage upon cast, and ticks the burning dot for 4 seconds (3 ticks at 0 seconds, 2 seconds, and 4 seconds).

It functions almost identically as other single target dots because of this, with a bit of a slower average tick rate (only 3.5s of downtime every 4 seconds, NOT 7.5s).

3 ticks at 0s, tick at 2s, tick at 4s, 3 ticks at 7.5s, tick at 9.5s, tick at 11.5s, repeat.

    Ele sus cost is appropriate.

Force pulse (for example) ends at conception and it deals roughly 10k tooltip on a damage build; 10/10 damage as a ‘ranged spammable’.

Ele Sus applies major breach (just like mark target which has the same/similar cost) and does roughly 6/10 of ranged spammable (so 2/10 for each status effect x3 at a minimum). Now consider it’s doing this once every 6 seconds over another 30 seconds

So you have major breach and then 6/10 of ranged spammable initially, and then another 5 ticks (so 6/10 x 5) which means that over time it is dealing 36/10 damage of a ranged spammable (again, not including lingering burning proc) and applying major breach the same as mark target which has a similar cost.

No, the cost is definitely appropriate

If it was used as a dot, then the cost would be fine. But it is gaining a cost due to some builds using it as a spammable, so the dot portion becomes irrelevant. Maybe it should have a ramping cost. First cast is 1000, second 2000, third 3200, and every cast after is 3200. After 5 seconds of not casting the cost resets.

    No.

It is an extreme amount of damage for a single cast.

It is proc'ing multiple potential passives and synergies.

It is providing the equivalent of minor vuln, minor maim (and potentially minor brittle).

It is providing a 30 second major breach.

    ---

I could argue that this change still shouldn't affect PvE as I feel it should still be battle-spirited but this is absolutely an appropriate cost for PvP.

This still needs more of a nerf. Need to make sure ice staff backbar meta is no longer meta so we can return to a pvp environment that actually used their backbar for more than just cheap easy defense/buff/heal bar with ease-of-access major breach with additional unavoidable benefits.

Also virtually unavoidable and has 0 real counter outside cleansing which is expensive in most cases and requires sacrificing a skill slot / set (or both) and paying a cost to counter a skill that has no real drawback to its use at it's current cost on Live.

The bloat from status effects also prevents anyone with a limited purge from efficiently removing the debuff before it procs again as well in actual combat scenarios, making it even more costly and ineffective to counter.

The cost is justified and honestly, maybe it should be more considering the automation aspect of the skill and how combat really flows. Does anyone really see people remove this debuff in combat in one purge? I don't think it happens and don't think I've seen it happen even once since the status effect changes that powered this skill up in the first place.

this is pretty laughable that there’s a view that elemental susceptibility is some kind of free god mode skill. When you have players streaking around the field wiping out everyone. they never lose more than 2% health, auto heal, can have 20 players chase them and still turn round and one shot all of them then you have a bigger problem than losing 5 1/2K resistance on their 40 something K resistance already. the same players take repeated direct hits from cold fire ballistas for no damage. Hmm oh well clear major breach and some minor status effects would have killed them. don’t think so.

Borderline bait comment but I´ll bite. No one is saying it´s a god mode skill. Status effect damage has been overloaded for years (long before Shattered path signet was added) and people have been asking for ele sus to not be a free skill with how overloaded it is. Again, why should a skill be free? I´ve yet to see any compelling argument to why it should. A skill should cost something (mag, stam, HP, ult or whatever) to use, but free, NO.

Alright lets not go overboard now, there are also 0 cost skills with conditions attached like det siphon and leeching strikes, one gets discounted to 0 and the other is free beause it need(ed, doesnt really need anymore with class mastery) a corpse.

I think ele sus should have a cost but i dont agree that the cost should be 3k, its a bit too expensive in my opinion. 1.5k-2kish would have been ok.
3k is regular spammable range and while it might do ok damage over the course of 30 secs, ele sus' damage per second is really weak and major breach is an effect we basically tech on to spammables for free at this point meaning ele sus is wildly overpriced.

Siphoning strike (and morphs) costs HP, that´s still a cost. As I wrote in my comment you quoted, a skill that does something should have a cost whether that´s HP, mag/stam, ult etc. A skill like necro tether needs a corpse (which can require a cost if you had to cast a necro ability first in order to generate a corpse), so in one way or another there is a cost included.

i dont wanna derail the convo but it can be discounted to 0, i also did also say that i agree with the cost change, just that its wildly overpriced.

I guess thats on me, i usually also just read the first line, assume i got the gist and respond sometimes, i should have put the meat on the first line.

not bait in the least but elemental susceptibility is not the skill it’s being made out to be.

I haven't gotten the impression that it is "being made out to be something". The value it provides is absolutely evident and it is quite straight forward to put a price tag on it.

Yes it absolutely makes sense to put a price tag on it but compare ele sus to something like this hw68fejoq9vx.png

It stuns, does more initial damage, has breach, costs the same and also recovers a tad of stam. I know not every class can use wield soul as breach cause its a great option for a burst heal, but on the other hand, templars, nb's, necros can absolutely use it fine, dks and wardens have no need for it because they have better alternatives so it just leaves sorcs and arcas that cant choose this without sacrificing a good burst heal.

What im trying to say is that for the price cost, i dont think ele sus is doing enough. I'm not saying buff ele sus btw, just make it cost a little less and thats it.

Edit: you know i still think its wildly overpriced but on the other hand its other morph still costs 0 so honestly its fine at the end of the day, who cares.

When comparing the 2 morphs of the skill, this one should definetely be more expensive, because the other one is useless.
However, I'm not sure what the intended goal is:
    - PvP? Because in that case everyone has access to that skill, there is no need to nerf it because it is class independent. And to go further, if some classes don't use it, because they have better skills within their kit, was this skill too strong (and that can be yes or no, depending on the overall performance of those classes)?
    - PvE? - It does not target dps players. They do not use this skill, but instead it targets tanks and healers, who are tasked with debuffing with Breach & Brittle.
    - Shattering Path ? (The Synergy with that one was removed in PvP, and in PvE Elemental Susceptibility is not strong enough to make it into dps builds)
    - Infinite Archive (Focused Efforts Builds go deep, and they probably have no Magicka Issues in deep wings, due to the other perks).

I am just not sure what the intended goal is- of course they can just nerf a skill because it is strong, but I think you have to look at the interactions.

    Possible Options:

This nerf maybe shifts PvP Balance between classes using this skill and classes not using this skill- the question is just whether the classes affected (aka classes that previously used that skill) are top tier in PvP with the upcoming PTS changes (other than ele sus) or not.
Out of the current top 3 PvP "Builds" (according to the cries in the forums;)), that would be DK, WW and Sorc- out of those only Sorc is using Elemental Susceptibility. All 3 have been hit with other sustain nerfs as well. If sorcerer sustain was touched too "softly", compared to the other 2, that might fix it?
Regarding the PvE Nerf to tank & healer sustain- I guess it is probably "okayish", due to the improved sustain in PvE due to class masteries.

Yeah, that is fair enough. My response was addressed at the other person. In the end it has to find its place between a spammable and something linke Mark Target. Whether the cost of those abilities is appropriate is a discussion that will need to be held with a bit more nuance altogether.
