Why do decorators feel the need to own the plans? Most already complain about the material costs. Why not pay someone to craft the items for you? Much cheaper, much less time consuming.

I do a lot of decorating, in many, many houses. Including 3 fully finished guildhalls. Was it expensive? Absolutely. Was it worth it to me? Even more so.

Since you decorate houses yourself, you know how expensive it is.

Of course, you can buy items from crafters, and they’re cheaper than the blueprints, but that doesn’t change the fact that some players can’t make huge amounts of gold because their playtime is extremely limited.

Why do I want to be able to know the blueprints and craft the items myself? Because housing is my absolute endgame, and I put all my effort and resources into “building from scratch”—which means I don’t just need a few pieces of furniture to place around, but massive amounts of structural furnishings to build entire buildings. And only then does the actual furnishing begin.
Even just crafting all these items myself is expensive due to the extreme cost of materials (massive amounts of Mundane Runes, Heartwood… which also have to be collected first). It’s just as impossible to buy 50 columns, 30 platforms, 50 walls, etc., from guild merchants—especially when it comes to NEW items.

Absolutely! It's very expensive, and why it's endgame. I spent years just building up my bank to create my first guildhall, and my god, the joy and satisfaction I got when it was done.

What I'm seeing out of most of the complaints in this thread is that people are playing above their means. I know from previous housing guilds that I was a part of (I did most of the furnishing crafting for a lot of people), that most people won't farm their own materials even. Takes too much time out of their creations to work for the resources they need. It's also too expensive, not because prices are high, but because they buy materials or plans instead of just spending an hour or two farming some materials. Most people want high reward for little effort, and don't realize how that affects other players that enjoy the game the way it is.

I think you need to look that word up in the dictionary, it doesn’t mean what you are implying it means.

Also, why do you care if I want plans or not or even have them? It sounds like you are selling them for top dollar and if I won’t pay then I deserve that. Those who are in the housing community are supportive, not condescending.

    Entitlement.

Nope. Means exactly what I said.

I care because people are trying to ruin the enjoyment collectors have in the very few chase items left in the game. The farm-able plants and mushrooms have already been bumped up, as well as the Shivering Cheese.

Furnishing leads from maps are no longer a chase since maps are in abundance.

As earlier stated, I eat everything I find, or I give it away to a few close friends that are also collecting everything in the game. Selling is only if I ever need some space, and if I sell, it is most likely less than others' listed. I have gold, I really don't need to gouge for more.

I left the housing community years ago when the majority were demanding that housing be cheaper or that they never have to leave their homes to acquire any plans or furnishings. Entitlement.

If you believe that then it is pointless for me to continue. You are not here for a real discussion.

True. Bad example on my part. I meant smaller, shinier things, not structural plans. Like others have said.

The drop rate is absurd. I've been 'farming' for five days, and have not seen ONE purple crafting recipe from the new Glenumbra stuff, and I have farmed for about 8 hours each day.

That's absurd. I've tried swapping characters. I've tried stolen object containers and I've tried the Deleyn's Mill house. In five days, odds should allow for at least ONE purple furnishing plan from the new loot pool.

I've gotten three blue recipes in that time: Blueprint: Breton Hutch, Tall Knotwork X 1, and Praxis: Breton Planter, Blue Ivy X 2.

That's nice, but again. 5 days, and not one purple quality recipe is crazy, and I'm pretty sure that we're NEVER see Devs respond to this thread be cause the economy of an MMO is deeply important to playerbase's sense of fairness, so if there is an adjustment, it will likely be a stealth patch, but I'd appreciate it if someone addresses this insanely low drop rate.

    Yep.

I was expecting the Glenumbra ones to remain the same, as it is in line with other zones; it just so happens that there are no 'good spots' in Glenumbra with plenty of unowned backpacks/wardrobes/etc, even without a login screen (forcing us to use the 'port to a dungeon/unowned house trick') which of course compounds the issue. Is a perfect storm really:

    - No good spots.
    - Utterly diluted levelled lists.
    - Atrocious drop rate.

However I was expecting at least that the drop rate of structural furnishings in Summerset would have been brought in line with for instance Solstice. I would have thought that this was a no-brainer because at this point everyone and their cat has done the Summerset dailies hundreds of times - first for the achievement, then the motif pages etc. - so keeping the abysmal drop rates would basically be the complete opposite of 'respecting players' time'.

    Turns out I was wrong.

EDIT: For the record, I have stopped altogether. It has taken a long time but I have learned my lesson (the 10th anniversary jubilee imparted a pretty harsh teaching in this regard). When the game design infers that taking liberties with my time is acceptable - in other words, the infamous 'working as expected' - I just disengage.

If I have the coin to spare and there is availability when I do I will buy them from traders, if not I will do without.

I've been trying to farm blueprints every day since update 50 went live. I still haven't gotten any purple ones (Glenumbra). I did get several green ones initially and couple blues (bird houses, chains and 2 mushrooms), but since patch, I haven't gotten even those. I do stealing, pick pocketing and grabbing any unowned containers. Nada.
Since non-Breton themed should also drop all over Tamriel, I've tried better farming spots for those. No luck.
  • Duckytired
I have to agree with the drop rate aggravation. I have tried the delves, stealing, and several hours at a time on that stupid house in Delyn's Mill. I have yet to get a single Purple Furnishing from the New Glenumbra Furnishing pool. I have sucked it up and bought the Summerset furnishing recipes and the rest of the green and blue Glenumbra ones that I hadn't been able to get. Having to resort to paying millions of gold for someone else's luck at a single purple drop is ridiculous! Something needs to be done about this. I have been playing ESO and doing all different kinds of content for years...and this one thing is actually making me cringe with just the thought of getting on to play now.

I don't want to lose my joy in ESO...but it's getting close. FIX IT!

    This is still going?

Please leave rates where they are. Things are already way too common in most aspects (gold motif books have been dropping way more than before)

Glenumbra plans aren't dropping. I spent 1-2 hours daily (often spending several hours) for months looking for furnishing plans and the best I got was 2 of the same blue Glenumbra plans. Not a single new purple plan.

Furnishing plans shouldn't be so extremely rare that they only benefit a lucky handful out of thousands. It is grossly unfair to the rest of us who have been trying unsuccessfully for months, and moreover it isn't healthy for the game that housing is as out of reach as it is.

I've more or less lost interest in housing with how hard it is to furnish homes, and now with content slowing even more I don't see myself logging in to play much anymore.

Will nitpick a bit about the comments in bold, as they contradict themselves.

Now, if referring to epic plans, they also drop. Hence why there are many listed on traders.

It may feel unfair, but that's the chase in chase items. If I really wanted to just own them, I could go buy them. If I just wanted the furnishings, I would pay someone to craft them.

Curated drops have already gotten rid of many chase items. Now people want furnishings, furnishing plans, recipes, everything that should feel rewarding when you do get it, to just be increased in drop rate until they aren't chase items. Give us collectors something to still hunt for since the mass amounts of begging have already made collecting relatively painless.

Yeah, it is a nitpick. Having 2 or 3 new plans drop after hunting for hours daily is manifestly unreasonable. And no, the purple plans are not dropping. There is still ONE plan available of the Breton Amphora, Marble on PCNA for 3.9M gold. At this level of rarity, I'm just buying the marble amphora directly with crowns.

Can't they find something else for collectors to hunt? These are normal, everyday furnishings that are important parts of decorating a home: plants, vases, curtains, armoires... Rare collectibles should be actually OOAK type of things like, I don't know, the original edition of the 2920 books or the 36 lessons of Vivec (actually, we don't even have those books as furnishings yet, dammit); or the ceremonial sceptre of Empress Alessia; the long-lost artifact to open a portal to the mythical unicorn grove; extremely rare aetheric fragments to summon a mystical mount from Azura's Moonshadow realm, etc etc.

The addition of rare collectibles is limited only by the devs' imagination; they can absolutely find a way to do so in a way that does not impact on players' ability to decorate. And I do think that not having access to good/high res standard furnishings is an unnecessary and unhealthy impact.

There would be demand for drop rate increases on whatever rare alternatives are, it's happened with sets through curation, as well as Mythic leads, nothing mythical about that anymore. It's happening with furnishings and plans because the housing community feels they are owed every furnishing available in the game.

There are few new plans listed because there is finally some rarity, and most people will eat the plans before listing duplicates.

I am not farming the Glenumbra plans. I deliberately do not farm stuff that ZOS says is a rare drop and the drop rate is ZOS RNG.

TLDR; When ZOS makes the drop rate 1 out of 100, and they use their RNG, which I think is a pseudorandom number generator that uses a seed/initial value based upon your account, the average drop rate over a large number of tries (multiple thousands of tries) will indeed be 1 out of 100. But I can go 990 tries without getting a drop, and then get 10 in a row, and still average 1 out of 100, while you can get 1 in the first 10 tries, and then go 90 tries before you get another. Both average out to 1 out of 100.

I'm not farming something almost 1000 tries to get one drop, when I know there is no pity timer in ESO (guaranteed drop on try 100 if you have not got a drop already).

Requested solution: ZOS put in a pity timer (guaranteed drop after many tries if you have not already got the drop).

Rare collectibles are usually not standard armoires or vases that you'd see in 50% of the homes in Glenumbra, or even in 50% of its more affluent households. They should be, as my post indicated, one of a kind type of treasures. Legendary treasures lost to the ages. Mythical items to be hunted by the most dedicated teams. Furnishing plans that let you craft a set of maroon curtains, how mythical is that, really? In ZOS terms, apparently they're more mythical than the Kingmaker's Trove or the Echos of Aldmeris, which is bizarre. I really do not think any furnishing plan should be rarer than legendary antiquities.

It's the same for me. I am four furnishing plans away from having every plan available in the game. The missing plans include 3 Glenumbra plans and the new secret bookcase. When update 50 dropped, I farmed and farmed for many hours daily, with the only new purple drop I received being the mushroom barrel. I had better luck with the new Summerset plans but the drop rate was still abysmal. By mid-August I gave up and spent all of my gold on plans, leaving me with 4 to go and no funds in reserve.

The experience was miserable. Combined with how miserable I was from farming Dynamic Encounters, I have largely lost the will to play the game right now. I felt like my time spent was disrespected and that the experience was utterly unrewarding.

Before someone chimes in to say that things should be rare, I'll just note that the question really should be what is the right balance between rarity and fun. I've farmed all the dwarven and ayleid plans, which was a side project that took several years. I've farmed the Elsweyr dungeon plans, the Galen structural plans, and on and on and on. You name it and I have probably farmed it and have it in my collections. Yet at some point the grind just becomes too unrewarding per unit of time spent. There's much more fun to be had in other games for a more reasonable effort.

Calibrating some better balance between effort and fun rewards is necessary or people get fed up and leave. For myself, the grind for Glenumbra plans is really misaligned with the fun and rewards. So I'm on a break, hoping that the next update brings more enjoyment back to the game.

    What ‘secret bookcase’?!

Maybe it is this: Blueprint: Secret Door, Bookcase
This item was added to the game with the Update 50 DLC

Yes, this is what I was referring to. Apologies for being unclear.
