If a nerf isn't justified, you should be able to make a convincing argument.
If the arguments against nerfs are better than the arguments for nerfs, there should be no issue.

Just buffing everything because it feels cozy is plain stupid. It is an immature attitude not fit for problem solving.

What’s immature is thinking anyone is owed an argument at all, at the end of the day it’s a video game not a courtroom, people saying “I want this” is more valid than any argument because this is a product and the customer is king.

So if a handful of people here make the crispiest argument while the majority of happy players are playing the game and not busy coming to forums begging for nerfs and changes, the smart business move would be to go by the audience, not the small vocal minority here.

Which is the case more times than not. Listening to reddit level debate tactics and caving to demands every time there’s a nerf thread was a mistake so much that they rightfully stated they wouldn’t be doing this while refreshes were underway and it’s a shame they didn’t stick to that promise.

So what is the consequence of this statement? "Shut up and be happy?"
If the feedback is worthless that should be easy to decide. If the feedback has merit it can lead to improvements.
Just because a lot of people are enjoying their unfair advantages, it doesn't mean that people on the receiving end are wrong.

This is literally the simplest possible argument to agree on on this forum. Not even being OK with that is just an absurd display of bias.

If you cant see the difference between leaving feedback and filling up threads with attacks against people with opinions one dislikes disguised as debating then I cant help you.

Thats whats happening not some poor attack on good faith good natured debaters. Only recently has this improved, it was a nasty wave of people trolling threads prior, til zos finally put in nerfs for all the top performing classes.

    edited for discussing moderator action

It simply does't strike me as a big problem if I see someone arguing in bad faith. If the argument cant stand I am not going to be scared of any consequences. Whether ZOS acts well or poorly on it is 100 % on them.
A lot of people here aren't making great efforts with their posts or maybe they are also not the smartest, but that just doesn't faze me. I might not let their BS stand if I have the opportunity and motivation to oppose them, but that is about it.

What happens in the patch notes is on ZOS, however misguided or well warranted it may be.

Beyond tired of it. They should've balanced separately from the start. Or atleast start now with using battlespirit more.
I have no faith in the upcoming Warden refresh, so why bother anymore. Sadly I think this game is in its death rattle for me..and I have played for years.

Just sick of the constant whinging by clapped cheeks. Zos are still balancing classes, we're mid-stream, and people want us to row in circles because their pet classes havent been rebalanced yet. Maybe it is zos's fault for taking too long, Microsoft's for cutting staff, but some of the playerbase are being insufferable.

After U51 hits us like a tidal wave, we'll have dredges of posts saying "nerf this!" and "nerf that!" washing up ashore; like after literally any change to the skills and balance.

It's like the content locust that devours every shred of new content within an hour and complain they have nothing to do, the game is dead, and - of course - "ZOS never listens".
Even if said content was made with relaxing pace in mind that would last a week or two.

They have zero patience and they will never be pleased.

I agree it takes too long, but life is life.
I'd love to see crucial balance changes made more often, and I also want my Warden and Sorc to enjoy the refresh.
I'd rather not be a constant WW food roasted by DKs when I play my fav characters.

But I'm mature enough to wait until my toys are repaired and freshened up, even if it takes longer than anticipated.

Sets and skills are nerfed because they are over performing. It's just that the PvP players typically know how to make builds better than most PvE players and can get more out of them, so the OP nature of something is more obvious in a PvP environment.

If anyone is wondering why there is animosity between the PvP players and the PvE players, just read the original post. The PvE players have convinced themselves that they are somehow victims of the PvP players.

That’s because they probably were in Cyrodiil, is the only reason why vengeance is pushed so much in the forums while it’s a ghost town in game

That's no reason to nerf those sets and skills in PvE.

The problem here isn't the different performance of sets and skills in PvP and PvE, it's the refusal by ZOS to tweak them seperately in PvP and PvE the way that other games do.

Anything that is over performing in PvP is also over performing in PvE.
That's not how it works. They're two entirely different game modes with different rulesets. Other players are not the same as NPCs, things need to be fairly balanced against other players, they DON'T need to be "fairly" balanced around NPCs. NPCs have different Armor ratings, can't Crit and don't have any Crit resist, they have no Pen value afaik. They don't use Sets that can impact players. The balance that needs to be achieved in PvE is not the same as the balance that there needs to be in PvP.

A rotation that hits a mob for 50k isn't overperforming. That same rotation will hit a lot weaker in PvP because of a number of reasons, like Battle Spirit. Skills that are fairly useless against mobs may be really good against other players, Skills that are great against other players might not work as well against mobs.

You can't claim X being too powerful in Y means it's also OP in Z when Y and Z work on different rules and stats.

    Well said.

Also, while having broadly equal classes in PvE may be desirable if you want to avoid having the game dominated by certain OP classes, it's much more essential in PvP. While I happily solo in PvE with multiple characters of assorted classes it doesn't bother me at all whether they are equal in ability, but if I were playing in PvP I would certainly want to feel that I was playing on a level playing field with those running different classes.

So what may be necessary tweaking for one content isn't automatically necessary for a different content.

Yes, I am, but I’ve accepted it as it is. To me, the fault lies mainly with ZOS. I’ll paste a response from another thread.

Balance is possible — a game doesn’t need to be perfect, but it also shouldn’t be atrocious. The main reason for frustration in PvP is the huge gap between the strongest and weakest classes. When one class can deal 20k damage while another struggles to reach 7k, or when one sustains easily while another burns all resources after just five skill casts, the environment becomes unhealthy. I wouldn’t mind if the strongest class were about 20% better than mine in some aspects, but being 80% stronger in almost everything ruins the experience.

In PvE, I don’t really care if an Arcanist deals massive damage while my heavy attack build only reaches 60% of that. At least in medium-difficulty content, like veteran dungeons, it doesn’t bother me. Things might be different in harder PvE content, but I don’t play that often.

Another issue is how certain playstyles, like DoT damage, fall far behind in PvP. That lack of build diversity makes the environment less fun. Personally, I play mostly for enjoyment. Even if I lose, as long as the fight wasn’t a lag fest or full of cheap shots, I’m satisfied. I’d rather lose ten good battles than win one horrible one.

And i have the impression that ZOS is too reactive on their balance adjustments, like they do not have a design behind their decisions. Player base is not fair or right always, sometimes the player base must be ignored and be given what they need and not what they want

Yes, but I don't entirely blame the PvPers posting about it, since PvP does exist in the game, though it's basically like two separate games with completely different rules, and when they don't use Battle Spirit they end up throwing of PvE because of something that isn't even relevant for PvE.

However, I think the biggest issue I have is with *how* things get balanced. The developers seem to balance with the idea that if something is too powerful, it should be completely demolished. Personally, I think if a set or a skill line over performs, it's fine to bring it in line, but it should be done with the idea of keeping it as a viable set or skill line to be used in end game content. People put a lot of time and energy into builds, and putting together the perfect build only to have it completely obliterated isn't fun, it's just disappointing. I think rather than just focusing on making sure things are too powerful, they need to put equal weight into making sure things aren't too weak.

If a set is over performing in PvP it's also over performing in PvE. It's just not as obvious because the casual PvE players don't have the APM that PvP players have or anywhere near the build knowledge that PvP players have. PvP is the true end game of ESO and the ultimate test of skill and build knowledge. That's how it works.

Just because you don't like other people's opinions on the game and what changes they want as paying customers does not mean you get to silence them because your OP toys sometimes get whacked a little. If you want to have your own experience than go play modded Skyrim. Until then if something is nerfed in both pvp and pve chances are it was needed for both. Quit blaming pvp for your frustrations with changes to pve. Its obnoxious. You would lose your mind and cry you little eyes out on these forums if you had to deal with some of the garbage pvp has to deal with.

Class balance is not about which class has the most stat value or op skills, its about making all classes fun to play. Being fun to play requires relative balance but not exact balance in every number. Currently it is not fun to play many of the classes

I don't understand why this is hard to understand. I just think you're upset your toys in pve are being whacked a little and now you want to blame the various threads related to nerfing dk, sorc and ww in pvp. Its just kinda lame bro. Direct this frustration at zos and not separating pve and pvp more and not us. More than half the time though pve deserves the nerfs too.

Its just the framing of this post is childish, shortsighted and misdirected

Years ago, one of the most insightful regular posters, Yandere Girlfriend, pointed out that it makes more sense to nerf a half-dozen things that are very OP than to try to fine-tune a few hundred things that are lackluster or not functioning well, if the goal is to create a more balanced, enjoyable PVP experience where many different playing styles are all viable/competitive.

This made great sense to me.

But the devs on this game seem to always be making some new item, class ability, or somesuch, that completely busts PVP, and makes one or two cookie-cutter builds far overpowered, and a bunch of goons flock to it.

That's been eso PVP for as long as I've known it, with a very few windows when it seemed like 3 or 4 classes were all viable.

People who wanted to try to do Veterancy and thought it was fun to play the new WW and DK are walking away from the game now. They are already off the collapsing trial rosters. So are the Wardens and Signet users you had ruined. So are the Sorcerers you want gutted. And they aren’t going to attempt to finish it, aren’t going to wait for reworks and have and are still moving into other games now. Just because the other 6 Classes have bad Sustain doesn't mean you ruin the 2 that don't. They aren't broken and neither is Sorcerer. You finish the other ones. And the more people that read these threads and see it's the same toxic people, with the same bad attitudes and the constant calls to ruin everyone's characters, the more people understand that investing another penny in this game is pointless. It's the same thing as paying ball groups and nerf callers to ruin the entire game while every one of you demonize the subscription of millions of other people. Whether they play PvP or not. Because you died, and everyone else should be nerfed🤡

It is abundantly clear to everyone that every single one of our characters will be immediately destroyed upon release now. And they are being destroyed. Nerfs have never, do not and will never create balance. They have not created balance in 11 years! You are attempting to prop up a broken and unbalanceable state of combat that is a subdivision of what was once one of the greatest MMOs of all time. Even suggesting otherwise is fallacy. Show me when balance was achieved in 11 straight years of nerfs.

It's time to try the only thing we have never tried. That's STOPPING THE NERFS. It's time to stop letting an absolute minority of Ball Groups and nerf callers influence more bad decisions by Zos. I strongly urge the developers to investigate Guild activity, Group Finder activity, PvP player counts and ques in relation to these unjustified, unreasonable and game killing nerfs. And check the percentages against the entire overall game population in direct correlation to them. Not just the smallest pond of people who want clicks on their streams and websites. And do a complete in game survey of the entire game population about the reality if where these nerfs stem from and how many people have left and are expected to leave when they happen. And incorporate it against the same numbers over the entire history of Eso. And also to take back control of their own combat system, hire professionals and eliminate the PTS in its entirety.

Something has to change. What has been going on and is going on is not going to work anymore.

Imagine the world peace that would come if ZOS removed PvP from the game.

Yes, I'm totally fed up with the PvE crowd crying that ZOS put PvP in the game.

I sentence the OP to 50 hours of mandatory cyrodiil front lines for this offense. You will come to love the labors of balance and suffer its faults until then.

Im not campaigning for any changes. I was just making a joke and youre talking about the 'same old toxic players.'

This games on borrowed time. Enjoy it or dont, the changes matter not. Their main goal is to make changes to give the perception that theyre listening.

If I had any say in the matter Id ignore your 'nerf nothing, only buff for dopamine' approach.

So basically, they are quitting because their cheese melted? Is it their first time?

And if someone only plays a game mode because they can build to become a god without any thought, then it literally proves balance is bad and needs adjusting.

Lastly, how can taking power that wasn't there a two to three patches ago "ruin" a game that was functioning without it?

Those are things you and anyone else that feels the same way need to answer. Somehow I don't think a convincing answer will ever be found.
