Tamriel Tomes Better Incentive for Over-achievers

Instead of gold as the reward for excess tome points it would be great if we could choose the currency we receive. I've already received all of the Tome rewards (ignoring the potions I don't want). I have plenty of gold. What I don't have is an abundance of the other currencies that the game uses. If I could choose archival fortunes or tel-var I'd have a real incentive to keep at the weekly Tomes.

I like this idea. I would stick with the weekly Tomes too if currency were a choice.

If currencies like Archival Fortunes or Tel Var were available it should be at a much lower rate than gold. These take time and persistence to accumulate.

I think the excess Tome Points should remain unrewarding so that there's no reason to grind them. And that Tel Var and Writ Vouchers and Undaunted Keys should keep their current exclusive sources to encourage their respective content.

If there was something that granted any resource of your choice, I think it should be an event or something where greater participation is needed, not just doing extra Tome Challenges.

They should add something at the end so you can turn Tome Points into Seals or Trade Bars, it's not like more than 2k are carrying over to next season, why not let us spend the 10k+ we have right now? Or even, instead of just turning them into gold, split it evenly among the three currencies, so you get an equal amount of trade bars, seals and gold

There are 60 or so days left in the Tome.

I have every possible purchasable reward already, including the near-useless gold coast potions and poisons and the furniture.

I have over 8000 Tome Points.

There is nothing to spend them on.

And for the next 60 days there is nothing to spend them on.

We should get additional pages of small amounts of different currencies to be claimed as desired. Even if it's mostly gold mixed in with a few archival fortunes, seals, tel var etc.

I've never liked the autoclaim and gold conversion feature, it feels like the player has zero agency in it.

I can always use more gold, but I liked the idea of the bonus pages having currency that you can buy multiple times.

I don't pay attention to the tome objectives at all. When the last one ended, I assume, I seemed to get a bunch of random stuff added to my inventory. That's cool I guess.

I would prefer they left me with the points, to be honest, especially if I upgraded to the paid-for version.

If they want a points sink, they can add some cool stuff that costs more, or allow players to unlock a second set of bonus pages.

This might make me care about the Tomes somewhat. As it stands, the only things I want from them are the currencies and crates in the free tier, and I get this in a couple weeks by just rerolling the challenges to ones I can do in my normal playtime.

Then, I have loads of points left over, some of which will be converted to more ugly cosmetics to clog up my collection UI, and the remainder to a paltry sum of gold. If I could spend these on additional currencies I might continue doing the chores after the Tome is complete. Isn't that the sort of "engagement" these are meant to create?

And please allow us to opt out of the auto-claimer.

    That would be fine too.

I honestly love that it has a hard finish with just gold for over achievers.

I've said before, this game was at its lowest for me when I returned from a break into a event with event tickets, a golden pursuit for the event, then heroes return, which at the time came with two pursuit checklists, with endeavours on top. I felt like I'd logged into "Checklist Simulator: The movie, the book, the video game tie in". I lasted a couple of days before logging out and not returning for another year.

I understand the desire for endless pages, I get that some folk always want something to grind for, but I can not stress how much I like that these things have hard ends, not endless grinds.

I'm certain I'm not the only one that feels this way.

    Or am I?

You could just choose not to grind for it? I wouldn't be grinding it either, but the challenges complete passively anyway and it would be nice to get something I care about from it.

I like the fact that there is no endless grind with the tomes too.

I am done with collecting everything I wanted from the premium tome and I have 2-3k spare tome points (depending on the account) therefore enough to roll over to the next tome unless they increase the cap and I am OK with this.

There are enough grinds for me in the game, I really don't need more.

Don't get me wrong, the idea of getting Archival Fortunes or Tel Var for instance is tempting because to me is a lot easier to 'grind' Tome Points than it is to earn either of those currencies 'the intended way' (I don't like IA very much and I loathe IC) but I can't ignore the niggling thought that this is a good reason for me to be unable to earn these currencies via tome points 'exchange'.

On a tangential note I also think that we have way too many currencies already anyway (with more coming next patch) but that is a discussion for another day.

I absolutely agree. And thankfully don't suffer from FOMO like a lot of folk do here. But I've seen the effect endless grind has on people, occasionally myself, and I like things to have a nice firm end point.

If they added the option to buy currencies multiple times it wouldn’t be a grind for me. I don’t min max these things, I take a quick look at the challenges, weed out the ones I am definitely not going to do with rerolls until I see something I might do or was planning on doing anyway, and then just play the game. There are ones that never get done but I always have enough tome points to buy everything whether I want it or not.

I have to admit though, that today I was wishing I could just opt out of the whole tome thing completely. I had the “Kill X Dangerous Foes” and every time I was in a group that took a keep in Cyrodiil today, I had the words come up saying I had to claim the points and wouldn’t go away until I stopped what I was doing and played the UI minigame there. This is so intrusive. I do crafting surveys and the same thing happens. Why can’t I just play the game and not be constantly notified of these tome points?

I don't know what your stance on addons is but I use this one:

    https://www.esoui.com/downloads/info4484-Auto-ClaimTomePoints.html

To get rid of that... irk. (thanks Code)

Not saying that ZOS should not do anything about it in the vanilla UI, just that if you are not opposed to using addons this one will alleviate that irritation until they do.

I checked and the addon seems to be available on consoles:

Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll check it out. I try to use a very minimal set of addons but that one might be worth trying. I like a game with UI, not a UI with a game loosely attached.
