Maintenance for the week of August 24:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – August 24
The maintenance is complete, and the PTS is now back online and patch 12.1.3 is available.

Another NB nerf. Amazing.

    • Strife: This skill and Funnel Health now cost 4050 Magicka, up from 2700. Increased their damage by 35%. Both skills now heal for 40% of their damage done, down from 50% (~8% increase in healing per tick if dealing true damage).
      • Swallow Soul: This morph now heals yourself for 40% of the damage done, up from 35%.

All this did was make Funnel Health == in damage to Swallow Soul, but for a higher cost for more targets. Bad idea from the jump, it shouldn't deal the same damage as a healer tool or we're getting back into early days of the NB problems they tried to avoid.
Strife: This skill and its morphs state that they grant 1% damage done per 10% current Health you have while they are active. This effect is WIP and will be active next PTS update.

10% to all damage done is nice, but doesn't really make the spammable aspect of this any better where it was lacking because it turned it into this 10s buffer which is more akin to a dot than a spammable. Overall, bad idea again.
    • Nightblade – Strife [Feedback]: We are making some adjustments to the Nightblade’s Strife skill, based on PTS testing and feedback. These changes will be available for testing in PTS Week 4:
      • Cost is now 2700 Health and Magicka, rather than 4050 Magicka on Strife and Funnel Health. Swallow Soul still is only 2700 Magicka.
        • Targeted at reducing the base Magicka drain, while keeping a higher "cost".
      • Reduced base damage by ~33% on Strife and Funnel Health. Swallow Soul reduced by ~17%.
      • All abilities now deal 1% more damage for every 2% Health you have (up to 50% Health at max). This replaces the original bonus that was mentioned in week 3.

    Summary compared to live:

    Strife:
    • 1% more damage for every 2% HP to all abilities, instead of all damage. Since the wording has changed and the multiplier is drastically higher (5x), while also understanding the original intent behind the buffs was to make the spammable more advantagous to which 10% for 10s would of done nothing but make it a buff skill, we can assume this up to 50% only applies to the spammable, excellent change.
    • Heals for 40% of damage done instead of 50%.
      • Funnel Health:
      • 2700 Magicka + 2700 HP.
      • Damage increased by 35%, then reduced by 33%.
        • 1599 -> 2159 -> 1425 (12% lower than live, but can now deal up to 50% more damage)
          • 100% HP = +50% = 2137 (About the same as any ranged spammable, but heals 3 targets, allowing Swallow Soul to excel for selfish/dps purposes instead of having them be equal like week 3. Cost would not have been enough of a factor to separate them.)
          • 70% HP = +35% = 1924
      • Swallow Soul:
        • Still 2700 Magicka.
        • Damage reduced by 17%.
          • 2159 -> 1792
            • 100% HP = +50% = 2688 (25% stronger than live)
            • 70% HP = +35% = 2419 (12% stronger than live)
            • 41% HP = +20.5% = 2159 (Equal to live)

So no... Swallow Soul is only weaker than live below 40% HP, but much stronger at full HP, these changes are exactly what it needed. The blanket buff to all your damage done was so misguided and did nothing to make the spammable actually better.

At a 2688 tooltip, it deals more than any melee spammable from a 28m distance... while healing you for an obscene amount, there is no reason you shouldn't be at or near full health the majority of the time you're using this skill line. This is before you combine it with the class set which mind you, still retains an "all damage done" modifier.

It's not 50% increase to swallow soul, it's 25 at full health. Which just makes it weaker than it is on live. 10% damage done would actually make this skill useful but with this change this is a straight up nerf pvp wise and doesn't change anything pve wise

1% per 2% HP would be 50% damage done at full health, not 25%.

The quote "(up to 50% Health at max)" seems like a very obvious typo to me as you illustrated, it would make it worse than live, what they meant to say is "up to 50% Damage Done at Max Health".

There is 0 reason to think the new modifier would give you the 25% from 100%~50% HP, then begin to drop 1% every 2% HP when nothing they've designed for NB works this way.

Also assuming it is 25% damage done at cap, "up to 50% Health at max" doesn't gramatically make sense for that either, it should say "up to 50% Health would give you the max multiplier".

Either way, they need to learn how to write properly, but I think logically, it's up to a 50% modifier as 25% wouldn't make any sense.

There is no "0 reason to think the new modifier would give you the 25% from 100%~50% HP, then begin to drop 1% every 2% HP when nothing they've designed for NB works this way." The reason is to nerf NB which ZOS is doing each pts update since u50 pts

If you're this pessimistic about a video game, you need to touch some grass. Ye of lil faith, the entire purpose of the changes they were doing were to buff the ability, not nerf it. It's basic common sense.

I've been optimistic for 6 years but now it's impossible anymore

Eventually ZOS will come for sorc soon. Then they will be the one pessimistic.

ZOS comes for my sorc every other patch (mostly because non-sorcs constantly cry about other sorc builds, but when they do, they lump every single sorc in with that build because they have zero clue about the class and the actual reasons why those builds are problematic and just call for blanket generic nerfs that hurt other builds more than the problematic builds).

Shock-sorc technically, but yes, magsorc (well shieldless magsorc to be more specific, because for some reason I like nerfing myself even further).
