The Sheogorath quest is... bad, to say the least

Is there any reason that Noth is still here whining "Your Madness, wait!" in my face every time I go to do writs?

Seriously, some NPCs need an official 'off' switch, not just the No Thank You addon. I feel like I can't go anywhere in game without a giant pop-up ad saying HEY!!! DID YOU KNOW WE HAVE NEW QUESTS??? OMG YOU NEED TO STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING RIGHT THIS INSTANT AND GET TO THEM!!!! AND EVEN AFTER YOU'RE DONE, WE WANT YOU TO REMEMBER HOW COOL IT WAS!!!!!! LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLL1111111!!1!1!1

If this game wants me to annoy me into uninstalling, it's going the right way.

In this storyline, however, it was all, "Cheese. Cheese. Cheese. Unwarranted threat of graphic violence. Cheese. I'm so gullible, I give my staff to the people trying to kill me. Cheese. Unwarranted threat of graphic violence. Cheese. Cheese. LOL I maded someones get ded bcuz I'm bored. Cheese. I'm so wacky, I probably wore my underwear on my head this morning because I'm SO RANDOM AND CRAZY TEEHEE. Cheese."

He'd always been like this to me. Maybe a tiny bit less cheese in Oblivion, and a tiny bit less gullibility, but this^^ is basically him throughout the series. Cheese, over-exaggerated randomness, and eye-rollingly hammy threats of violence.

He was much better in the books, but it's done now.

Except he hasn't. Cheese was mentioned once in his Oblivion quest as an incidental, once in the DLC, and once in Skyrim in reference to the other two mentions. It wasn't until ESO that cheese became a defining trait. Also of note, his optional quests in ESO (Greenshade and N.Elsweyr iirc) don't mention cheese AT ALL and really emphasize how menacing he can be when he wants to.

His Oblivion quest hinged on cheese. He rambles incessantly about cheese in Cyrodiil. "Axes, maces blah blah snooze blah DEATH WITH A WHEEL OF CHEESE". More pertinently, I've always found him incredibly cheesy.

I mean, if all you're objecting to are references to cheese, then I guess this quest would be especially irritating. But for me, this IS his character, and has ALWAYS been his character, in the games. Constant references to food (cheese, fish sticks, strawberry torte), manic threats of OTT violence, that "teehee I'm so cruel" edgelord attitude, his shrill voice.

Could he be more menacing? Sure. But he wouldn't be mad if he was predictably menacing.

I get where you are coming from, truly I do....but you are asking SANE people to TRULY write an INSANE character....to truly encompass that would mean that everyone in ZOS should be VERY weary of the person(s) who wrote the script....I am sorry but that is a fact. Several actors/actresses who got too "into" their role of a deranged character, like Heath Legder playing the Joker was one off the top of my head, didn't end up mentally well.
Now saying that...I too fell disappointment. Because Sheogorath is ALSO, easily, one of if not the most intelligent of the Daedric Princes based off the lore, and how often he out stumps or just out maneuvers all the other Daedric Princes (the only one I can think to remotely be at his level or beyond his intelligence is Hermaeus Mora). So for Uncle Sheo to be so easily fooled....is...well....nah...he IS NOT that dumb, even when MORTAL. Being mortal doesn't DUMB HIM DOWN.... that is the part I have a problem with mostly. Maybe, just maybe, he would fall for cheese poison...but GIVING HIS STAFF AWAY..... nah....made him too stupid for one of the most brilliant Daedric Princes. He is mad, insane, deranged, but he is brilliant! A genius.

The other day I went through Sheogorath's quests and what can I say, it's terrible, uninspired, uninteresting, very corny and out of touch
I have a feeling that I heard the word cheese 100 times in the whole quest, I decided to check and there is a 3-minute video on YouTube with the word cheese from Sheo from this quest, it looks so pathetic, as if the writers have no idea what Sheogorath is and they know nothing about this character except for one 20-year-old joke.
This joke became so overused so overdone that I can't consider this questline as canon, for me it's low quality and low effort fanservice.
    This questline is really pitiful.

Sheo explicitly pronounced the word "cheese" in Shivering Isles DLC only ONCE

    O N C E

and few dozen times only in this short questline

yeah lets reduce one of the most interesting lore character to food-obsessed imbecile without any depths, what an amazing writing, ffs even wow has better characters now and that's a shame

Yeah, cheese is relevant to the Oblivion quest itself, but Sheo never mentions it. Heck, lettuce is more relevant to him in that game. Again, only one mention in the Shivering Isle DLC and once again in Skyrim. EVERYTHING ELSE has been a flanderization of his character courtesy of the ESO writers. Who have proven they CAN do him well, but seemingly choose not to.

... More likely, it is not the same writers.

And yeah, I wholeheartedly agree to the sentiment of this story being a major disappointment... Mind, it's ok, even fun in its own, but NOT as Sheogorath story, and it's at least the third time in the recent times when we got Sheo line or references fail.

This time, he emphasized essentially the only one aspect of madness -- severe dementia... There was really no madness in all the story, just a few throwbacks to old tricks done a hundred times already... Can't even call what was going on a little crazy, maybe silly, but more like stupid...

And the most major failure here is that... When he supposedly lost his madness, he should have been thrown back to his Jyggalag self, even if without the power.

Another problem with this line was... None of the companions reacted to anything going on.

My point is that regardless of whether it's cheese or some other comestible, he's always been lame. This is not some new thing. In Oblivion, he plays a practical joke. Lame, and mean. In Skyrim he takes you through Pelagius' childhood. Lame. In ESO, he's likewise some combination of lame and mean. At no time was he ever anything more than your stock standard toxic troll. Are people really surprised that behind every toxic troll there's just a (cheese/pizza/beer/whatever-obsessed) disturbed guy desperate for attention?

This is neither a menacing nor an impressive daedric prince. The character that was in the "Accords of Madness" has barely ever existed in the games.

If you were one of those who liked him before, lucky you, I guess? I myself completely lost interest in him in Oblivion, and the current quest is just another one in a long line of silly pointless Sheo quests.

I've gone ahead and pre-written the next ESO Sheogorath quest as a sequel to this one, since the writers clearly think we all absolutely loved it and are desperate for more:

Sheogorath appears and says, “Hello! It’s me! Sheogorath! I need your help with something very important. CHEESE!” He laughs extremely hard. “HAHAHAHAHAHA! Cheese! Oh, that’s good. Anyway, I had some cheese and now I don’t have the cheese because someone took the cheese. So I need you to go get the cheese. Did I mention it’s cheese? HAHAHA! Madness!” You ask where it is. “Over there!” He points at a cave. You enter the cave and find a man standing next to a wheel of cheese. “You’ll never get Sheogorath’s cheese!” he shouts. You kill him and pick up the cheese. OBJECTIVE COMPLETE: GET THE CHEESE.

You return to Sheogorath. “YOU HAVE RETURNED! But did you bring... THE CHEESE?” You give him the cheese. “CHEESE!!!!” He holds it over his head. “HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! LOOK AT IT! IT’S CHEESE!” You ask why he needed it. “Because I wanted some cheese.” He takes a bite. “Mmm. Cheese.” There is a long pause. “You know what this needs?” You ask what. “MORE CHEESE!” He pulls a second wheel of cheese out of his coat and starts laughing. You ask why he sent you to retrieve cheese if he already had cheese. “Because that was THIS cheese, and you got THAT cheese! Two cheeses! That’s twice the madness!” He laughs even harder. “HAHAHAHAHAHA! TWO CHEESES! Nobody expects two cheeses!”

You ask for your reward. “Of course! You’ve done a great service for the Mad God, so I shall give you something very special. Something powerful. Something you will remember for the rest of your days.” He hands you a piece of cheese. “It’s cheese!” he explains. “HAHAHAHAHAHA! Your reward is cheese! Because the quest was about cheese! CHEESE!” You ask if that’s really the reward. “No!” He takes the cheese back. “That would be stupid.” He hands you a different piece of cheese. “THIS is the reward cheese!” He starts laughing so hard that he falls over. “HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! REWARD CHEESE! Oh, I’m mad! I’m completely mad! Cheese cheese cheese cheese CHEESE!” He disappears.

QUEST COMPLETE: CHEESE FOR SHEOGORATH - Reward: 17 gold and a "Cheese of Madness" furnishing. For the next six months, Sheogorath then appears in an explosion of cheese at every major city and wayshrine you visit, loudly yelling “MORTAL! A MOMENT! IT CONCERNS CHEESE!” to remind you to complete the cheese quest you've already completed.

I'm inclined to agree with alot of people that this was a very poor questline.

    The following will be spoiled:
But what has me really irritated is that lore has been substantially broken with the mention of Darius Shano, a prolific THIRD ERA bard from Daenia.

    THIRD ERA.

How did this get past production? Does the lore actively not matter?
I mean, sure, I get you can use the excuse that time doesn't flow the same in Oblivion, but seriously?
    A third Era reference?
