Feedback on gameplay for obtaining furniture recipes

Currently, the only thing I want in the game is Blueprint: Breton Trellis, Wooden.

My options are:
1) Open containers in a Glenumbra house & port to reset the containers endlessly. Mind-numbing boring.
2) Buy the recipe for 3 million+ gold
3) Unsubscribe. Stop playing the game for a few months or a year. Keep checking the price on the recipe until it eventually drops to a reasonable price.

We need better options than mind-numbing opening containers to acquire a furniture recipe we want. This is an MMO with FUN dungeons. Multiplayer stuff to enjoy. A reason to use my healer build!

Yet none of the fun multiplayer activities reward me with the best furniture recipes. I'm stuck alone and opening containers until Sheogorath would be proud of how close I get to insanity.

Your entire gameplay grinds to a complete halt over one furnishing plan?

You can't give the required mats to someone who does know it to craft it for you?

I cannot vouch for this specific plan, but other new plans drop from other zones. I'm farming Outcast Inn in West Weald and Broken Light Temple in Solstice. While the drop rate is still low and it's still grinding, it's much better.

For reference, I got these plans from those locations:
    Various new birdhouses

The furniture drop rate for the new purple furniture recipes is that bad. I'd friend whoever knows the recipe for life.

I need about 50 of that furnishing. If anyone knows it, speak up. I will happily give mats.

    What other gameplay?
I play ESO for housing. The quests aren't giving me furniture recipes. Dungeons aren't giving me furniture recipes.

I'm either enjoying myself building homes or... opening containers.

I wish ESO would reward furniture recipes for doing other things aside from opening containers so I could have some variation in my gameplay.

Lovely you have good RNG. Guess what! Not everyone does.

Here's the statistics math (that ZOS seems to forget) Now this assumes a furniture plan drop has been generated from the table. This does NOT account for the fact that furniture plan drops are only about 25?% of container drops in general.

    1. Apparently the "new" Breton plans were put in the Homestead Set. This is the most frequently dropped set. Good start at about 75% there. (100% in base game, about 75% in DLC zones, so I went with 75%)
    2. Breton is 1/9 (or 10 if including non-racial) sets in Homestead. Down to 7.5% chance.
    3. There are ~30 new plans, and let's assume 200 original in the "Breton" set. 1.125% chance
    4. There are 8 purple plans. Down to 0.3% chance.
    5. Factor in ESO/ZOS math where 1% chance of nirncrux drop is really more like 0.25% chance and we're down to 0.075% chance.

This math does not factor in the weighting towards green/blue that is very obviously present, as I haven't bothered to track that weight.

Still, for most people - farming this plan is not realistic. Also these are NOT in the Furnishers Documents envelopes, or at least not in the 500 or so I purchased.

Basically, don't ever expect to have these plans unless ZOS likes you and you actually get drops. For those of us who have the worst drop rates in game, might as well stop playing.

I personally have found 2 new purples - 1 per MONTH (with daily searching). I sold them far below market because I don't think people should be paying 5+M for these.

Where did I say that I have a good RNG? I shared information that you do not have to do it in Glenumbra/Rivenspire/Stormheaven (which lack good container farming spots) and listed the plans that definitely can be obtained outside of those zones.

By "grinding" I mean parking a bunch of alts in the aforementioned locations and going through those alts once per day. I open containers until I get ANY blue or purple furnishing plan (food recipies do not count), then switch to the next alt (because blue/purple plans have cooldowns).

Edit: unfortunately, I do not remember which of those two locations yielded the drapes plan. Most seem to come from Outcast Inn, but I have more toons parked there, so, that might be the cause.

You DO have good RNG... I have found 1 blue, 1 green, and 2 purple from this set, TOTAL in the same amount of time. You have found almost double that!

Feel like it's too much work to get results? IT IS. But apparently we're now playing Black Desert Online, and that's not what I signed up for.

Wait, no, it's worse than BDO... at least grindy games have a "pity" point. ESO has no such thing.

I farm in Glenumbra mostly because I'm pickpocketing as well for the new furnishings there.
My drop rate overall in game is generally the same in all zones.
Sorry I'm not a "farm where this guy says" because YOUR RNG is not MY RNG. Some characters/accounts have better chances at different things.

Glenumbra is AWFUL for new plans (pickpocketing included), and've been complaining about it here on the forum. So, once I learned that plans drop elswehere, I abandoned Glenumbra completely.

Edit: and MY RNG has nothing to do with it. Outcast Inn is good because its door resets the containers, and Broken Light Temple has a gazillion of urns. So they are logistically better farming spots than anything you can find in Glenumbra.

Sorry, I didn't track who said what in the thread.

Also, I HATE the Outcast inn... honestly it's the WORST place for ME PERSONALLY to grind in game. Many other places where containers reset on door. I got NOTHING from grinding the Outcast Inn, except a desire to never play again.

I agree it would be an improvement if actually playing the game rewarded furnishing plans. Being able to get them from containers should be a nice bonus on the side, not the sole method of earning them. It makes housing feel stapled on, not a core feature of the game. It doesn't dovetail well with any other kind of activity, and it's not immersive.
    I care what you think.

I’m fine with plans dropping from containers, but new plans dropping along with the old ones is the problem. The newer ones will have a much lower drop rate than the new ones, just like the new plans in dlc areas had a lower chance than the base game plans that dropped as well. Once an old plan drops there is a cooldown and you have to stop farming or you get nothing but white plans for a while.

You have to be lucky enough that a new plan drops first and that rarely happens.

EDIT: also note that an old blue Breton plan might be worth 1-2K and a new one 100-200K now, you could spend hours and have virtually nothing worth selling

I farm all the known spots and actually get nothing. Maybe a green argonian or nord plan.

I'm losing interest in housing fast with this sort of rubbish RNG. Between the tightening of furnishing plan RNG and the antiquity lead grind, I feel like ZOS expects housing enthusiasts to spend 8 hours per day mindlessly grinding away. That's pretty disrespectful of our time.

I also think that they've done something to their anti-farming algorithm, these days I only need to open a handful of containers before I start getting nothing but lockpicks and white plans. It feels really discouraging. We should be able to farm reasonably and productively; the current situation feels neither reasonable nor productive.

This is unpopular opinion probably, but no one needs to get everything in a game (same as in life).

I understand OCD (I have one, I was once 14 furnishing plans close to know all of them ;) ).

One of the possible playstyles is to get hundred of millions of gold by speculation on the market, then buying everything you want.

I'm still tired of my gameplay being opening containers. I'd LOVE to heal or tank vet dungeons or win BGs for furniture recipes instead. Or do questlines. Anything other than clicking on more containers. That's an ESO design problem, and one I wish the remaining devs would fix.

But at least now I have info on good spots and why they are better than Glenumbra. Thank you!

This is the worst take I've heard.

The furniture piece is a structural piece. I've built as much of my home as possible. I can't proceed without knowing what the windows will look like in mass, what pieces might fit around them well. How many will take up the long side of a dining room I built precisely at a location for a view. What the view will look like from different angles with the windows all in place.

I'm stuck. My gameplay is stuck and the only path forward is... opening containers.

It would be different if it was a prop furniture recipe like a piece of bread or a pillow.

My feedback remains: I'd rather enjoy a MULTIPLAYER game and have the option to heal/tank to earn furniture recipes.
At least that grind would be FUN.

The current required grind of opening containers is NOT fun.

ESO has a long queue issue for DPS going into vet dungeons.

Other MMOs give extra rewards for signing up as tank or heal or whatever role is currently slowing down the queue.

Why not give us a goodie bag with an RNG latest update furniture recipe at the completion of each vet dungeon if we sign up to fulfill needed rolls for vet dungeons?

    2 birds 1 stone.

I'd live in vet dungeons for furniture recipes. Happily.

Or have them drop from Dynamic events. Or rumors. Or new questlines. *ANYTHING*

I love ESO's graphics. I love that I can build my homes from scratch in ESO with glorious views of the outside.
But today I logged in to check out the weekend luxury furniture vendor and logged out. I don't have the willpower to open more containers.
