Hey there everyone, welcome to the High Seas of Tamriel!

Jumping into your swashbuckling adventure is very simple. You can acquire the introductory quest "Raising the Riotous Redress" by visiting the Quest Starters section of the Crown Store.

You can also get it directly from Baron-Captain Olsien Guy Mard himself by looking for the event icon on the map beachside along the Gold Coast, just outside of Anvil. Once you have completed this quest, you'll be able to pick up the daily quest "Bounty of the Abecean Sea."

We have a few questions after you finish the intro quest, "Raising the Riotous Redress":
  • How did fighting Clackgrack, The Covetous Claw, feel? Any notes?
  • Did you have any blockers or issues with completing the quest?
  • And here are a few questions after you finish the daily quest, "Bounty of the Abecean Sea":
  • How did you enjoy fighting the Lousewhisperer Sea Elves? Did the mechanics of the battle make sense? Did you sink the enemy vessel or drive her off?
  • How did fighting the Reefwardens, Lucky Gretch and Bright Bazzle, feel? Any notes?
  • How did fighting Krelzimar feel? Any notes?
  • Do you have any feedback on the puzzles and exprience of navigating the sea floor?
  • Did you have any blockers or issues with completing the quest?

Once you've done both quests, let us know:
  • What did you like about this new event?
  • What didn't you like about this new event?

Thanks so much for playing!

-How did fighting Clackgrack, The Covetous Claw, feel? Any notes?

Felt very straightforward. Didn't notice any unique mechanics. Just a stronger variant of a Hadolid.

-How did fighting the Reefwardens, Lucky Gretch and Bright Bazzle, feel? Any notes?
-How did fighting Krelzimar feel? Any notes?

I enjoyed both of these boss fights and was able to do it solo. The mechanics were engaging, but I'd have preferred if the game didn't give me hints on what to do while playing on Master/Vestige difficulties.

-What did you like about this new event?

My favorite part are the underwater sections. I loved exploring and finding treasure. The increased jump height from the bubble is also a lot of fun to play around with.

Raising the ship was a cool moment.

I really felt like I was supposed to have brought a group for the ship fight; every time there was hull damage I’d get swarmed because it took so long to repair.

The quest arrow pointing to the treasure off the side of the ship is a bit confusing when the game is actually trying to point me at the Dwemer dive bell on the ship; I kept looking for a crane or something to pull it on board.

I didn’t really get the hang of using the harpoon on enemies but it was fine on clams and volcanic vents.

The schools of ‘sharks’ are a little too obviously not sharks. I’m assuming there’s no actual shark model to use, but maybe call them blood salmon instead? Fang trout?

Falling to my death under the shipwreck with the big pit under it is a bit…odd, given that we’re supposed to be underwater.

Footsteps are too dry - when I walk it sounds like I’m still on land. Some of the other sounds too, but the walk sounds are constant.

How did fighting Clackgrack, The Covetous Claw, feel? Any notes?
    Honestly didn't even notice him.

Did you have any blockers or issues with completing the quest?
    No

How did you enjoy fighting the Lousewhisperer Sea Elves? Did the mechanics of the battle make sense? Did you sink the enemy vessel or drive her off?
Took a couple of tries to get a hang of it, although that was probably due to playing on a template character with no build to speak of. I sunk the vessel, unsure what I would need to do to drive it off instead (maybe just keep killing boarders/repping your ship until it gives up?)
Fishing up the treasure after the battle felt strange - your character just gestures for a little while and then a chest appears behind you. Because it takes a little moment for this action to complete, I was initially unsure whether anything was actually happening.

How did fighting the Reefwardens, Lucky Gretch and Bright Bazzle, feel? Any notes?
A fun enough fight, nothing too challenging but enjoyed it being a little different than usual.

How did fighting Krelzimar feel? Any notes?
    Same as above really.

Do you have any feedback on the puzzles and exprience of navigating the sea floor?
I found navigating the sea floor a bit frustrating at times. ESO isnt really built for platforming which coupled with the unfamiliar floaty movement meant some of the jumps took a couple of tries.
I also found it a little confusing to work out which areas were meant to be scalable or not, especially given that the increased jump height meant that we were able and expected to climb areas that we traditional wouldn't have been able to.

Did you have any blockers or issues with completing the quest?
No. I imagine as I redo the quest I will become familiar with how to navigate the sea floor and which spots to check for treasure.

What did you like about this new event?
Overall, quite enjoyed it. I like when ESO tries to deliver something different.

What didn't you like about this new event?
Not a fan of how much of your loot is just antiquity leads for sellable treasures. Would have preferred to cut out the middleman and just give us the treasure upfront, and only give leads for non-sellables. Finding the smaller treasure chests along the way felt more rewarding in the moment than finding the bigger treasure hoard at the end, which felt odd (but obviously, the reward for finding the treasure hoard is being able to complete the quest and get your coffer).

How did fighting Clackgrack, The Covetous Claw, feel? Any notes?

I was a little surprised that it seemed like that my WW Fear appeared to work on him. Other that seemed to be as expected.

The weak character I used had no real issues with him. My two actually built characters steam rolled him.

How did you enjoy fighting the Lousewhisperer Sea Elves? Did the mechanics of the battle make sense? Did you sink the enemy vessel or drive her off?

It was interesting. It felt a little slow at the start as it feels like you are just hitting the catapult and waiting and then repeating. But, then the other ship starts to move and it gets far more chaotic. I'd note that the other ship at times seems to be traveling backwards is that intended behavior?

My weak character died the first time. Then, with a companion drove the enemy vessel off after a chaotic fight/repair experience.

My built characters didn't have any serious issues and sunk the enemy vessel.

It felt like it was more effective to focus on killing npcs/the enemy ships and ignoring the damage because repairing it yourself seemed to take too long.

I wasn't 100% clear on how to loot the fleeing/destroyed ship at first. But, some of that confusion might have come from playing BDO and at times needing to jump off the boat to loot things fully. Fishing up your spoils completes before all of the spoils are fished up if you destroyed the ship.

How did fighting the Reefwardens, Lucky Gretch and Bright Bazzle, feel? Any notes?

I would note that if your companion ends up holding threat on Gretch and you don't remember the command for your companion to come back to you the fight can be a bit of a slog once they get a bubble as you can't get rid of it if you can't get them to come to you.

My weak character did have a death vs the full group. My stronger characters had no issue stomping them.

How did fighting Krelzimar feel? Any notes?

Seemed fine. It felt like much of the power of the fight was in the mechanic rather than the actual npcs.

Do you have any feedback on the puzzles and experience of navigating the sea floor?

If you fail to get air for very long the visual changes make it hard to see to get air. I ended up just spamming heals and heading towards the exit.

When you die, your companion doesn't get an air bubble back when you respawn which can kill them.

It was kinda surprising when my character fell to the bottom of the ocean out of the boat.

On the weak character the combat part could feel like a bit of a slog underwater but, it felt fine on the more optimized builds.

What did you like about this new event?

The rewards seemed nice with the various decorations and motif leads ect. It does offer an experience the ESO didn't previously have. The little story bits seemed nice. I liked the one sea creature in the background of the fight

What didn't you like about this new event?

It works as an event but, I'd say the underwater/ship combat parts aren't good enough to be a regular content item of any size.

Would it be possible to have some up and down movement on the other objects in the water so they feel less like they are on rails?

    Additional Notes

You might bring back The Fair Winds for sale when you run the event.

It feels a little odd to have a defensive the fight be triggered by ringing a bell. It might have felt better to have the loop be borders - eliminate borders - fire on the enemy ship - more borders + enemy ship fires at you/evades you.

How did fighting Clackgrack, The Covetous Claw, feel? Any notes?

Did this with a reasonably high-level character and had no issues. Have not done with a lower-level one, but it would be a tough fight.

Did you have any blockers or issues with completing the quest?

Other than finding the center of the hedgemaze and getting back out again? No. There is a typo in the Baroness Althea book on the counter in the tavern. /bug'd it, but it's spelled correctly in the Baron-Captain's dialogue.

How did you enjoy fighting the Lousewhisperer Sea Elves? Did the mechanics of the battle make sense? Did you sink the enemy vessel or drive her off?

Had a good time with it. I ran it solo, so a lot of running hither and thither. It would probably have gone easier/quicker with a group where different member could have tackled different things. I believe I drove them off as I only got four or five total catapult hits on their ship(s), but got a loot crate to haul aboard.

How did fighting the Reefwardens, Lucky Gretch and Bright Bazzle, feel? Any notes?

Died once and Azandar (tanking) died first. Unfamiliar mechanics, mostly (could also be "skill issue"), but got all of them on the second go. Not the most frustrating fight I've been in, but it kept me hopping.

How did fighting Krelzimar feel? Any notes?

That fight went a bit easier than the Reefwardens fight. Boss died just about the same time that "Poisonous Cloud Incoming" appeared on-screen. Found the boss chest before the fight, but it was just set decoration until afterward.

Do you have any feedback on the puzzles and exprience of navigating the sea floor?

Visually a bit disconcerting. Several popped bubbles along the way, but clams and vents to replace them. Uneven terrain under where the aft part of the ship broke off resulted in an insta-death plummet into the depths. "Find a clam" was a pretty useless tip for that one.

Did you have any blockers or issues with completing the quest?

None that I noticed, but there may have been loot I overlooked. Many of the trash packs were reasonably close together, so not much time to look and I wasn't checking the respawn time anyway. Had a good time going bouncy bouncy in a lot of spots, though. There is one point where non-moving reef shark packs burst the bubble because no way around, but there was a clam nearby and I was able to roll-dodge out of their AoEs, grab a new bubble, and keep going.

Once you've done both quests, let us know:

What did you like about this new event?

Had a good time and honestly was waiting for something about outrageous accents, a la Monty Python. Hamsters and elderberries would have been a bit much, though. Seriously, though, it was a fun little side-jaunt. Interesting to see see tradable Antiquities leads. Other leads were mostly stuff I'd picked up (and dug up multiple times) elsewhere. Nothing else particularly exciting loot-wise except getting two of the three fragments of the new Ornaug mount.

What didn't you like about this new event?

Honestly can't think of much, but it was new and I'll have to see how it goes after the novelty wears off. Since we're getting a PTS update/reset on Monday, I'm not sure whether the event will still be around to try again.
I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.

Thank you for this fun event. I really felt like I was taking part in a real adventure!

I did not have trouble with any fight, enemy, or hazard. I played with a template character.

I think the daily quest should open up for all characters after one has done the intro quest. Right now you have to do the intro quest with every character you want to do the daily quest with. (The hedge maze was killer! :D)

The sea battle was fun. The first time, I concentrated on fighting off attackers, repairing the ship, and driving the enemy ship away. The second time, I decided to sink the enemy ship with the catapult and let the crew handle most of the attackers. It's great that you can take different approaches to the fight. For this kind of event, the battle length was fine, but if it were part of the real game system, I would enjoy a longer and more difficult battle! :)

The undersea part was beautiful! It was fun to search for all the treasures and explore the shipwreck and the whole area! I loved how you hid all kinds of visual Easter eggs everywhere! <3 The underwater soundscape was amazing as well!

However, even though the bubble could burst, I did not feel any real danger or punishment for dying underwater. But I think it would be too punishing to have, say, only 5 lives underwater before it's over.

I felt like there was too much hand-holding in the boss battles. Too many hints about what to do. But I guess that's okay and necessary for this kind of event, so that everyone is able to complete them. I think some people might struggle with the boss fights.

I loved this adventure! I took my time exploring the sea bottom. Some people might think the undersea part takes too long, even without exploring. I did the event twice with different characters and still feel good about it. But I don't know how I'll feel after doing it every day for 2 weeks. It might be a bit too long for this event.

Disappointed that PvP was not included in this event. Would have loved to have Ship boarding and an objective driven tug-of-war between the two ships.

    Huge missed opportunity.

I'm going to throw this out there for developer consideration, but please think deeply on some lessons from recent new content and Golden Pursuits.

First, assume that everyone, their cousins, and their cousins' pets are going to show up as soon as something goes live. Remember the queue at the Yvierry estate gate? Is there a navigational a bottleneck which is going to get overwhelmed by multiple players all trying to get at the same thing at the same time? I'm thinking the center of the hedgemaze will be one. Hope I'm wrong, but plan for the worst and most surprises will be pleasant.

Are players going to have to try to find something through the visual clutter of dozens of glowy outfits, companions, noncombat pets, summonses, and whatnot? Both of the NPCs in Kvatch maybe? Neither the hedgemaze nor the tavern are huge spaces, each has one necessary NPC in that cramped location, and everyone wants to talk to them at the same time. Saw the same effect with some of the new New Life stuff last year (quest-related NPCs buried in a sea of visual clutter) and definitely at the three Dynamic Events where players shoot blindly in the hope of hitting something they can't see.

Are you going to have a pursuit which requires doing X thing Y times? Does that thing depend on a respawn timer? Remember the daedrats and plunderers for the Sheogorath pursuits? You garner little goodwill with "you can do other stuff to complete the pursuit," especially when the pursuit tracker is telling the player "do X thing Y times." Yes, they absolutely can select something else for the tracker to track, but the vast majority are going to try to do what the UI is telling them needs to be done and the default tracker behavior is to proceed down the list from top to bottom. There is also the problem of the daedrats no longer spawning after the big deaedrat got killed (that oops is on you). And we saw similar with the World Bosses and delve bosses for some of the Freerunner stuff where there are only six of each in the associated zone. Players mostly chose whichever was closest to a fast-travel point and/or had the smallest health bar in the case of World Bosses. Go where you're supposed to go and then cool your heels for a few minutes because the player(s) in front of you killed whatever it was. And if it takes multiple spawns to reach that Y, then probably cool your heels again at the next spawn point, and repeat until Y equals whatever is required.

Are players going to be trying to collect something which depends on RNG to drop? Nowhere Keys and the Gem of Agility come to mind very quickly as examples of major pain points for that type of system. Personally, I agree that the grumbling about the gem and keys is much ado about nothing since they cannot be used until the Vault gets here. But you did put that seasonal challenge for the keys out out there, perhaps prematurely, and that's another of those "do X thing Y times" problems. Side note that I either got very lucky with a dynamic event on PTS (mostly just for stopping by and I had to solo the DE, but still...), or the drop rate is being improved, or perhaps both.

There are others, but the big idea here is "are you designing problems which will come back to bite when everyone is trying to do the same thing at the same time?" Yes, those problems mostly go away when the novelty of new stuff wears off (well, except for the bad RNG; that's a persistent issue), but it's what players experience when it's new that sets the tone for what the Johnny-come-latelys will expect.
I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.
