Insane damage numbers in BGs

Hello, I used to play ESO on and off since the beginning and since the latest update i started playing again every night and i'm trying to get the grasp of the new pvp meta.

I have pariah and full impen gear, my armor is 32k before pariah and it is on body, so it is active on both bars. In battlegrounds I keep getting hit around 17k whips, merciless resolve, overload light attacks etc.
It's not corrrosive armor coz i have addon that shows when someone activated that ult.

So, how is this possible? If i didnt have all those armor and crit resist, would that mean im gonna get hit like 30k? lol.
How do you counter this?

It's probably a player with the power damage sigil. They added power ups around the maps when they introduced the 8v8 format. They spawn fairly often.

Does your add-on also track onslaught?

Even with full Impen gear, you’re still eating a bunch of nasty crits. In the new meta, most folks are running around at between 135% and 160% crit damage (factoring in the base 50 that you don’t see on your sheet). And a lot of them can still hit at least 10k penetration and 6k weapon/spell damage.

I used to try and counter the high damage then I realised the best way to counter it is by actually doing the following:

    - Out-damaging your opponent I e. Kill them before they kill you
    - Timing your blocking (and use the one hand shield ult if needed)
    - High mobility - get in, work your combo, if it fails, get out (streak, falcons swiftness, race against time, etc)
    - Play line of sight
    - Have two heals (Vigor (HoT) and one burst heal on your bars)

Honestly, the amount of damage that players can output nowadays with high crit and high penetration, hoping to stand toe-to-toe against them with poor-to-moderate damage output and high resistance (both crit and damage mitigation) will not get you very far. Trust me.

    This is speaking from experience.

It's why all the best players go for high damage output and quick combos.

The best form of defence is attack.

Okay, I see where this is going… are you asking for a DK nerf? 🙂

Why do PvE players always have to pay the price for PvP balancing?

Couldn’t ZOS do something like this instead:
    • If in a PvP zone Skill\Set\bonus\whatever... X does less damage
    • If in a PvE zone Skill\Set\bonus\whatever... X does more damage

Why does ZOS always seem to prioritize PvP balance, but never maintain proper balance in PvE?
