and let us teleport to friendly targets, not just hostile ones.

WoW's Shadowstep has it perfect. you teleport to any target regardless of allegiance, and it lets you be a sneaky ninja like the Nightblade class ought to be

I am not sure that this would be a net benefit, especially in regards to targeting.

They could, in theory, rework the "Pet Command" keybind to a sort of alt-cast keybind that functions as a pet command while light/heavy attacking and an ability modifier while casting an ability. It could allow for friendly targeting of gap closers or self-targeting of heals in situations you don't want your heal going to someone else.

The targeting system already prioritizes mobs and hostiles, it wouldn't be that bad honestly. Just target friendlies last

I mean if shadow strike can do it then surely teleport strike can also

If I'm understanding this right, you want Teleport Strike to also work like Nature's Grasp? We definitely should get more skills with that kind of functionality — that's the only skill that lets you gap close to allies.
