Where are the best stealing spots?

Been looking for good stealing spots that are npc free. trying to level Legerdemainn.

That are NPC free? None really. But I can give you a tip, but it may cost some gold/farming time:

    5 x Night Mother's Embrace
    4 x Darloc Brae
    3 x Night Terror

All overland, and can be found in big guild traders.

Add in the Green CP Out of Sight and you become virtually undetectable. Take Steed's Blessing and Celerity and use Swift on the Jewellery pieces - you'll be so fast crouched you'll have a jog animation.

Edit: Then head to Necrom, and loot the hundreds of urns!

If you have the Deadlands dlc there is an inn by the Fargrave wayshrine. If you go upstairs there are several chests and a few rucksacks to loot.
There are no npcs on that floor. There is also an outlaws refuge nearby.
If you dont have the dlc you could try stealing apples from the orchard in Craglorns main town, there are a couple of npcs but they are easily avoidable. Again there is a nearby outlaws refuge.
Fargrave will be way more profitable, but craglorn is base game, you will get sick of the sight of apples though
Hope this helps get you started.
Forgot to mention the fargrave inn can be reset by leaving and reentering, quick and easy, just run back upstairs rinse ,repeat.

for picking pockets, i always liked the little ghost snake village in deshaan. no guards. easy paths to learn. there's a similar place in stormhaven. firebrand keep. right outside of the thief den in necrom is also a fun spot. tons of urns. fill your pockets and the thief den is right there to empty them

if you just want to level legerdemain efficiently, there's an apple orchard in craglorn and sheep farms in khenarthi's roost. at each place, there's 2-3 npcs to do away with and then you just steal apples/sheep guts and leather to your heart's content. it's nice because you can stack hundreds of the things and then just launder/fence your quota every day until you run out

Inside the outlaws refuge at the Telvanni Peninsula there is a door that goes to a hallway that has lots of urns and unless you leave the hallway there are no NPCs. Enter the outlaws refuge at the secret door near the wayshrine. Turn right, go down the stairs, turn left and go through the opening into a short curved hall, turn left again and walk up the stairs to the end where there's a secret door, enter the door and start looting.

Another way to level legerdmain is to find the place in Khenarthi's Roost where there are two large flocks of sheep to kill and loot them. But there are 2 NPCs you must kill first, ideally with the blade of woe. The advantage in killing the sheep is that because of the limited kinds of drops, they will stack and use a few inventory spaces while amassing quite a lot of stolen items to fence and launder. If you hang around and wait for the sheep to respawn a few times, you can accumulate several days worth of visits to fence and launder. However, this place is, or used to be, popular.

Necrom Underways. All the urns you could possibly need all stealable, and nary an NPC or Guard in the entire instance. And it has a direct entrance to the Outlaw Refuge with a fence right there.

I'm surprised it took so long for someone to mention this one, for years it was the spot to go to for easy stealing, and it's still very popular for endeavours.

@Gracous - There's two ships moored at the docks by Daggerfall Wayshrine. Both have lots of containers inside and no NPCs ever go in there so it's completely safe. There's more containers on the decks and around the docks but there is a chance you'll be spotted there, but if you are it's easy to get into the water where the guards can't catch you. The entrance to the Outlaw's Refuge is nearby as well, but there is a guard that patrols right past the entrance, but if you're careful he's easy to avoid.

I was there recently, and could not find a lot of empty buildings with anything inside. A lot of places seem to either be occupied or cannot be entered. There was mention in an old post about a few places just down from the palace, but I could not find them (or, they've been modified since that post).

stealing?!??!?! <gasps and clutches pearls> i would NEVER! i simply acquire things that ppl leave unattended. one man's trash is another man's treasure, you know.

and if you need lockboxes, the crafting area in bal foyen has a bunch that respawn super quick. although if there's endeavors relating to them, you'll have a lot of competition. picked up my shivering cheese there ^.^

Seriously the best stealing spot is the apple grove just south of Belkarth in Craglorn. Tons of apples, you get the max level quickly. I just logged out my character there each day, stole apples when logging in and the same when quitting. Tons and tons of apples and just one easily avoided guard.

In the modern age, as has been mentioned, the Necrom underways are king in this regard. Connecting directly to the outlaw refuge fence area, you can't ask for a better place to steal.

I don't know why that comes across like I'm writing a thieves travel article.
  • TheSherryOnTop
Easiest way to level up this skill line is to go to Carglorn and steal the stuff from the containers. I usually go the route from the wayshrine into the three tents that are near it and then sell it and repeat. Just make sure the guard inside that one tent isn't around when you steal stuff from there and you're good to go.

#1 is absolutely the Necrom Underways, if you have the Telvanni Penninsula. 150x urns with no NPCs, and the fence just inside the door. Switching between the Underways and the Outlaw Refuge resets all the urns. 2 runs through the urns will fill up your fencing/laundering slots most days.

Bottom floor of the Outlaw Refuge.
    whk8mxnqed7n.png

#2 is the Belkarth apple orchard, which is base game.

Either way, take Azander (or have his bonus skill unlocked.) The blue research portfolios you get with him are usually junk, but they often drop valuable treasure maps and furnishing plans. I've gotten most of my Solstice maps (and before that, West Weald, and before that, etc.) from those portfolios.
Open the portfolios before you fence/launder, since you'll want to sell most of it, but launder the valuable stuff.

Edit: dangit, I know you can't get companions during ESO+, and yet, I still think/say this. Sorry!
If you don't have access to Azander, make sure you get him during the next free ESO+ event. Just for his perk. He's a decent tank, too.

And if you still have inventory slots after looting both noats, take the 2nd boat to Davens Watch and it changes to a brand new boat. There's only 1 NPC on the new boat and she's pretty easy to avoid. When you take that boat back to Daggerfall, it respawns all the loot.

That is the case for the most recent two companions that are crown store exclusive. The older six companions can be unlocked during an ESO plus trial as they are linked to quests.

The thing that was changed is that the latest two companions are not tied in any way to the expansion (season pass) of the year they appeared, but are crown store exclusive instead. At least there was no additional charge if you pay for ESO+.
