Account Transfer Fee(s)

PC NA here. I have been playing ESO via Steam regularly since November 2023. I have developed one character fairly well and enjoy playing it. I have two alts that aren't that well developed but I am interested in progressing them more. I would VERY much like to continue playing these characters. But I want to remove my ESO account from Steam and play directly through a regular account tied directly to the ESO website.

Can I do this? Can I sever my ESO account from Steam and continue playing ESO through the ESO website? Is there a fee involved to do this? If yes, what is the fee? If no, can I transfer the characters from my Steam ESO to an ESO account purchased and created through the website? If yes, what are the fees? If no, why?

You just have to buy the base game again & log into your steam account on the eso website & redeem the game code then you'll be able to play your steam account directly from the ESO launcher

Sure. Wait on a $5 sale for the base-game (probably toward the end of this week), buy it from ZOS, use their installer to install it, and then log in with your current ESO username and password. You might or might not need to wait on a verification email to complete the initial login (I forget; it's been a few years). Your content access is linked to your ESO account, so it's mostly just using that game install and launcher to get into the game.
I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.

So...I need to buy the game again? Won't I need to create another account in order to do that? If so then I don't see how I will be able to login into my current account using that account. $5 is a bargain to sever ESO from Steam. I'll look into this more. See what's what. Thanx.

i believe you should still have an eso acct, if you play through steam you should have still had to link a steam acct to an eso acct, as your not using your steam acct to login to eso (it just does some auto authentication if you have the 2 accts linked)

i know if you already had an eso acct before getting it on steam, if you bought a steam copy you could link steam to eso acct and run the game through steam optionally

so i would assume if you bought the game on steam first, it would still require you to set up an eso acct and link them

if thats the case then you would just log in to the eso acct management page with the eso acct and can access the store from there

i dont 100% know for sure since i been playing eso for almost 12 years and both of my accts i got outside of steam

At least when I moved from Steam to the normal launcher in 2019 or 2020, buying an additional account was absolutely necessary. Sure, even with a Steam account you have to create an ESO account to use the website and beg for forum access. But at least back then you could not log into the game itself because you can't download the launcher anywhere. I tried running the .exe directly (which apparently had been possible many years ago), but that didn't work either.

In the end I had to beg customer service again, this time for a link to the launcher because even after buying an additional copy directly from the store, there was no launcher download link to be found anywhere, neither in the account overview nor anywhere else on the website. On the positive side, my then current ESO+ status (cancelled, but several months remaining) was still the same when I was finally able zo log into the game by means of the launcher. This wasn't really a surprise though, since that information had always been visible in the account overview.

Anyway, ZOS definitely can't be accused of making this change easy, not even after paying them a second time for the same thing.

I literally just did this for my Steam account.

    1. Log in on PC with your Steam account credentials.

    2. Unlink Steam.

    3. Buy the base game again - or any version of the game.

    4. Play.

I've been playing since BETA and moved from the ZOS stand alone launcher to Steam as soon as Steam became available. I can currently log in via either the stand alone launcher or steam since your ESO account is your account regardless of which PC platform you are on.

More of a response to your thread title, but with Crossplay coming, I really hope that Cross-Save makes it possible to switch devices on the fly.

I saw they confirmed crossplay is in active development. Have they confirmed cross-save as well?
