Yes, self healing is important, but if it was tracked, it should be tracked in its own category rather than combining it with healing done to others (or simply add a "damage taken" stat).

Like, for evaluating our ballgroup logs, we don't even really look at the shielding other than "yep, there's a shielder, and they're doing the thing". Now should it count somehow in BGs, sure, probably, but it needs some scaling correction to value it fairly if they do.

There's nothing inflated about the damage that shields actually absorb, which is able to be tracked by the game already through logs and CMX.
We're not referring to over-shielding, just like we wouldn't want the scoreboard to track over-healing.

imo all shielding is a form of over healing but the game should track 'damage absorbed' by shield & block rather than just 'healing'.
Self shielding and self healing not awarding points is a form of bot prevention though, it would be very easy to sit in a corner and spam a health decrease skill and a burst heal to get yourself medals otherwise.

That is how the game tracks it already on the backend.
ESO Logs and CMX pull this data. In the case of CMX, it shows up as Healing Done by the target of the shield, but it only tracks the actual damage absorbed by the shield.
ESO Logs can track both overshielding (i.e. the raw shields you apply) and damage absorbed by the shield (i.e. the actual "healing" you get from the shield).
The game can already do this; both Logs and CMX use the game's own API and tracking. ZOS just refuses to adjust BG scoreboards to fix this and all the other problems with them for some reason.
