More information would be needed to pinpoint a cause
What platform, add-ons in use, network conditions, and possibly hardware would help determine an issue.

Try disabling auto loot stolen items in the game settings.
I auto loot but not on stolen items as it let me inspect illegal containers to see if I want the items. Peaking is not a crime in elder scrolls.

Yes and owned sheep = stolen guts/meat etc

It's peeking if you mean look with your eyes; and also yeah I'd like the 10 year old base game features to just work.
That setting is fine for you - but our goals wrt stealing are different.

The goal is to determine if auto looting of stolen items is the cause of your crashes or if it could be something else.

It's a really fast way to lvl Legerdemain without accruing too much bounty - get max sell/launder of guts for the day in under 10 min

I still steal apples in Craglorn myself. The orchard is literally right at the outlaw refuge's doorstep. But I guess the guts from the sheep leaves you with a healthy supply of fish bait.
