Subclass Hot Take…

Categorize class lines and limit one per category.

Just like the wikis, or in game, each class has 3 skill lines. Typically the first in line is more dmg based, second is hybrid’ish, third is more healish, afaik.

Basically, pick one from each category but not two of the same.

No thanks. I like subclassing because it gives us the flexibility and freedom to more creatively craft our build. To layer on another set of limitations detracts from that freedom, trying to force builds back into some box/preconceived notion.

I wanted Subclassing to be limited to just one replaced skill line instead of two. There'd be a lot less combat imbalance that way.

I say let players KEEP every skill line they level and then let us pick abilities from any one we want. Such as, one ability from Sorcerer, one from Dragon Knight, one from Necromancer, one from Templar, one from Warden and one from Nightblade or one of the other remaining classes. THAT would real subclassing. Let us find a mixture that we like and works for our playstyle.

define the sorc skill lines for me then.

    i'll wait.

You’re picking Storm calling on a subclass build anyway..

Right… unless you want to be even slightly above average at the game.

    Remove subclassing altogether.

Limit one swapped line. Must have two from your original class.

    Then it's an actual subclass.

dont allow people to use the passives from subclassed skill lines. for example, if you want to borrow the assassination skill tree, you get all the skills, but you dont get the passives. then people wont be stacking 3 "damage" classes. this will kill some powercreep while encouraging more build diversity

with that being said.... subclassing sucks and we'd be better off if we rolled the patch back.

Subclassing as it is could be expanded upon. Let us swap out our base class. Let us have up to three skill lines from any other class. That way I don't need to have one Templar skill line at minimum; I could instead have three Warden skill lines, or two Necromancer skill lines and one Warden skill line.

Something that gives the players total freedom over which three skill lines they own without needing to swap characters to do so. Also please let us use any Class Set and style, and make the Scribing Class Mastery change depending on how many skills on a skill bar you have equipped, i.e. you could change Class Mastery based on which Class skills you use the most of. All without changing characters.

Please give us Werewolf Skill Styles (for customizing our fur color), Grimoires/Scribing skills (to fill in the holes in our builds), and Companions (to transform with).

No, this then becomes too much. I think for what they did with subclassing, they did more right than wrong as it stands currently. Problem is too many people want to play Skyrim/Oblivion/Morrowind Online and don't like when it's not that. I understand wanting that, as I did ten years ago, but I am glad it's not that.

Add a sixth skill slot and let players have 4 skill lines instead of 3. Maintain the subclass swap out of two class skill lines. For example, sorc could play 2 sorc lines 1 arcanist, 1 warden or 3 sorc lines, 1 Dk, etc. Go all in on the power creep, why not.

While we're throwing out ideas that'll never happen unnerf Oakensoul. Even better, let back bar passives work with Oak on even if you still can't bar swap. That'd be awesome. I haven't found subclassing to be particularly one bar friendly since so much of the benefit of it is from the passives and not the actual skills themselves. As a one bar player I tinkered with subbing and then said forget it. For me, what was gained from subbing did not outweigh what was lost from taking the mythic off. So I went back to a pureclass build. It works well enough to do everything I want to do so why bother. I would also like a flying unicorn mount that throws rainbows at my enemies which is about as likely to happen as any of my other ideas 🦄
