Wayshrine transit cost

I keep seeing people standing at a wayshrine, going through the animation for a wayshrine transit via the map. (Press 'M')
(That's the one where your character calls up some sort of star chart and slowly selects a destination)
I just want to point ot that if you do that IT COSTS GOLD and you're standing right next to a wayshrine that offers FREE TRAVEL. (Press 'E')

rowdog✭I've done this by accident. I get to the wayshrine and realize I haven't really figured out where I'm going, bring up the Journal, hit M, click the wayshrine near my goal and then realize I just spent a pile of gold.1 -

I've done that a few times myself. Just looking at the map figuring out where I'm going and then accidentally spend money on a teleport forgetting that I was standing right next to one and wasn't in the wayshrine map.

Blackwolfe5✭✭✭I check my guild list, and if someone is close to where I need to go (or any wayshrine whatsoever) I travel to them. If they were not where I wanted to go, at least I'm at a wayshrine and can travel for free anyway.1 -

Xithian✭✭✭Yeah, traveling to a player is free but it restarts your cooldown (gold cost) for teleporting. As he pointed out though, at that point you're at a shrine anyway. One of the reasons I just use a pack horse. Travel is easy enough.0
