Console players have had their biggest wish granted. They can now use mods.

My biggest wish for the PC version is in-game voice chat.

I WANT IN-GAME VOICE CHAT ON THE PC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I ALWAYS believe I know the answer. Turns out I rarely understand the question.

Player since BETA (February 2014) and have the monkey to prove it. Level 50 in all classes and have mastered all normal skill lines. Still working on mastering all subclassed skill lines.

No, thank the divines. I cant see why it would even be needed, except perhaps to explain trial or dungeon mechanics, and for that we have discord.

TBH I rather enjoy the peaceful quiet, being able to hear the sounds of Tamriel without being subjected to a lot of trash music, dogs barking, kids screaming and crying, and people just making stupid noises because they think its funny.

If vc ever came to pc, Id probably just remain in Cyrodiil and never come out. Im pretty sure they wouldn’t allow it in there, but if they did we could at least find and kill the offender 😊

Trust me, you don't want it. Just go to Auridon, turn on any tiktok cringe video, and there's your typical main city VC. I'm glad we can turn it off. I haven't used it since console launch.

Most console players I know (at least on PSNA) rarely ever use the built in voice chat. PSN chat is much more preferable. In game voice chat is significantly subpar ( <---- avoided saying garbage ).

The devs have straight up said that they don't intend to do that because 1) those tools already exist on PC (aka Discord) and 2) those external tools are better than anything that ZOS would put in.

Also, logically, who would use it? Most people who need VC have used Discord/Teamspeak for 11 years, so they're not going to switch to an inferior version because ZOS made it. That means the only people who use it would be the people who refuse to use Discord... which wouldn't be many people in the playerbase.

And do we really want ZOS to waste development time on something that barely anyone's gonna use?

Voice comms are exponentially superior to keyboard communication when running group content. And sometimes it's nice to just shoot the breeze with someone while playing if the mood suits.

The strange noises coming from me will be the occasional hiccups. I prefer an in-game voice chat because I don't like Discord. World of warcraft and roblox both have built-in in-game voice chat options along with other online games. Maybe it's time for elder scrolls online to get it too.

I absolutely do not want this. Almost every time I see a video from cosole eso, I'm like NO THANK YOU to crossplay.

I like that the expectation in pc eso pugs is text chat. What I dislike about trials is so often having to listen to 2-4 people chat like it's their private zoom session. Or the tank that uses their comm privs to verbalize a stream of consciousness.

Plus in the post-zoom world, few have voice chat etiquette. So many players will start eating or slurping or burping in the middle of a trial! Or have conversations with their SOs with zero self-awareness.

The problem is that if it's added to the game, it will be expected players will be listening and I definitely will not be tuning in to anything outside of trial voice comms.

PC players who want voice chat have very easy options for it. They have had those options for more than 25 years. And they use them, too. It's normal for guildmates to join discord voice chat, even when they're not playing together. Social players who want that option have it.

Discord is a data mining service, just like all the other social media platforms are.

Much better to go with teamspeak or an in game chat.

I really don't want proximity chat for PC. Group chat, maybe, but that still would have issues, but it is super helpful. I kinda don't think it's necessary to appeal to players who refuse to use discord, but there's certainly something trustworthy and convenient about a built-in voicechat that would draw more players in. Even for discord users like me, I wouldn't want to join one just for one dungeon group.

But even if people can opt out of it, it really changes the nature and tone of social interactions.

A lot of people get weirdly targeted by others based on their accent/gender/voice, whereas a lot of that is much more distanced via zone chat messages. I know some people might not experience this or care about it, but it's very common, and it makes PC more open and accessible to me. This could mainly apply to zone chats instead of group ones.

I also absolutely don't want to hear people raging in BGs lol. I'm pretty conflicted about voice chat, I see the pluses, though.

Dedicated group or social players are using Teamspeak and later Discord since day 1 of ESO.

Communication today is already far beyond pure voice - ever seen a full blown housing discords with creator portfolios and idea collections per topic/house, turned on a quick stream session to pick the right outfit choices with a friends help, Shared the last set ups and position diagrams with your raid? Or took some pictures of you last hike or awesome ribs you made in the smoker with your guildmates.

In game voice might be nice to communicate ad hoc with PUGs. But that is more or less all it is needed for and I personally will mostly avoid open space internet contact with total strangers. And I don´t PUG. The last unsolicited whisper I got was about my characters boo*s, having that whispered in my ear - thank you, no, it´s already bad enough to be harassed via chat.

I prefer to have people only know about my age, gender and nationality if I want them to

When I was on console I found the in-game proximity VC just annoying; I don't want to hear doofdoofdoofdoof when I'm trying to chill. Almost always, I would mute it. When I played with friends we used PSN VC as that always worked better.

And now I'm on PC, the last thing I'd want would be proximity VC for regular gameplay. If I do end up playing with people I need to chat with, I have Discord.

To be fair.. Proximity chat is just a channel (Area channel) that the player can opt to not use. It's not like it's forced upon anyone. It can be toggled on or off at any time.

By no means am I an advocate for the built in ESO chat on consoles (cuz I'm not a fan). But having a proximity channel isn't what's bad about it.

If it has zero impact on performance I wouldn't care so long as the default is off and it takes a sequence of six buttons to turn it on so it doesn't accidently fire up.
Only problem might be players demanding others in a group join or get kicked. That would bite.

In-game voice chat would be good yeah. I don't have time to be on Discord if I'm not playing, and if I'm playing, I'm in Discord voice chat with my partner.

I don't like the guilds who are like, "we have an active discord, join the conversation, everyone is there!" and I'm like ya but I can't listen to both my partner and strangers talk at the same time, I can't be alt tabbing to some text chat in another program when I'm playing + as it's been said, nobody wants to hear the couples who are just talking to each other anyway. I wouldn't hog a guild's voice chat with whatever we're talking about, we have our own channel for that. But I'd still need to talk with the pugs sometimes, voice chat is faster and easier, and proximity chats can be funny af. There's loads of cool people out there, although the bans from text chat is making it kinda hard to find them. But I think in voice chat, you could just block the abusers like in text chat. Or at least you should be able to.

Please no, we don't need that on PC, everyone uses discord and if they want to they can use something else, your friends are going to be on discord anyway, same as the guild discords where everything is organised and easy to use. For in-game voice chat option you can switch to console.

Yeah but really not everyone can access Discord, it's not available everywhere. Personally I'm not interested in ditching my 10+ year old account from PC to console. It's good to have more options and a bit more inclusion, and discord people can ignore the in-game voice chat ofc.

And raid leads have the option to refuse to slot anyone not in voice coms.

It's a tragedy that discord is a data mining service and people don't use teamspeak anymore. Teamspeak is better and more stable and doesn't data mine the daylights out of it's users like discord does.

I think it should be implemented.

Those who don't want to use it don't have to use it. It is entirely optional and frankly less issues arise on voice chat than zone chat because the area chat on console is able to permanently opted out of and covers a small area which makes it mostly unsuitable for trolling. I'm not saying none exists but it is far less and easier to avoid.

The benefits include all the people uncomfortable with using discord gain access to content in this game that some of them are currently uncomfortable doing.

Communication with PUGS is superior. For example, you're in a dungeon and people are struggling with a mech and you can't get past a boss. You can just voice chat in text box and explain the mechanics and answer questions. I've saved many a run this way.

Spontaneous low stakes communication with strangers that you'd actually want to participate in such as the occasional auctions or dance parties

There are accessibility options that are built into the game that rely on voice chat. I actually didn't know this before but another player explained them the last time this came up.

On console the default is on (era: for area chat) but you can turn off individual chat channels and they will stay off permanently. There's no way to accidentally turn them on because they can't be turned on using shortcuts. You have to go into the specific voice channel settings and turn them on.

I haven't turned had my area chat channel turned on in years (ETA: except when I wanted it to be or had to redo my save file).

WOW, some strong sentiments. I personally would like built-in voice chat that works with only the people in your group, I never even put any thought to hearing everyone, that would be just strange.

Yeah, Discord exists, and it works, but it requires a different program entirely. Discord is not a plug and play solution, it is actually a kludge that everyone got used to.

I want something in-game that can be turned on with a simple switch, you plug in your headset, and there you go.
