What a shame, but I know he'll do great things wherever he winds up. I had the privilege of getting to go to Amsterdam for the ESO 10th anniversary event, and I was so impressed with Matt's commentary. He always made sure to give credit to his team members. He spoke with passion and enthusiasm about this game, its community, and his people. He made you excited to find out what was next for our army of vestiges. It was genuinely heartwarming to see and hear. Had an aura of true leadership about him.

Sucks beyond words to see him go. My occasional whining aside (which can get a little melodramtic. Happily surprised that my account hasn't been deactivated by now, haha), I genuinely love this gargantuan work of art that Matt and his team have crafted. It's beyond epic, in scope and size, and a testament to unparalleled skill. You'll be missed, sir.

Who exactly was Matt to ESO? What touch does being a studio head have on games and the decision making which goes into those game? I'm just curious how much of ESO is actually his.

Sometimes a changing of the guard can be a good thing, keep in mind, if Matt didn’t trust Jo, he wouldn’t have had him working the position directly beneath his.

Just wish we’d get some kind of message addressing us, and the concerns we have. I need to know which direction ESO is heading, and whether or not monetization will get worse.

He was there at the beginning. Before that, actually. He was Game Director for ESO, so this game is pretty much his baby.

This^. A lot of folks don't know, but ESO started in 2007, 4 years before Skyrim, and Matt was there from the beginning, having come from Dark Age of Camelot.

He wasn't just a studio head at a large studio. He was there before even Skyrim when the team was smaller than it is now and it was all hands on deck.

Matt was literally the first person hired to design the game. ESO is his project.

I suggest you watch the 4-episode podcast with Kinda Funny to see the amount of work that was put into building and maintaining the game. It is very informative and interesting.
