Surprise!!!!!!!!

I recently stumbled upon the Kollopi tree. It is just a tree, with no markers or anything to indicate that it is special. I know, it is a quest thing, my point is, it was a normal looking world item, that is always lootable. What a surprise to loot a tree and get something useful (kollopi essence is a disguise that makes you invisible).

We need more surprises. Consider, there are armor pieces and weapons found throughout the world, wouldn't it be nice if some of that junk turned out to be nice gear, instead of always being junk. Another suggestion would be an NPC vendor rework. The vendors all show the same boring junk, that nobody actually buys. I suggest that the vendors should retain and sell at least the last 25 unique items that they have been sold. There is a real deficiency of low level gear, because nobody sells it through the guild stores, no profit. Wouldn't you like to find a vendor that had some perfect roe.

So scatter some serious weapons and armor around, to make it worth checking those racks. Add mysterious rocks piles, trees, multi-part pickups without directions to the other parts, etc., add stuff that has no marker or name, you just have to stumble upon it. Make the vendors more exciting, they serve only as a repair station and junk dump now. Lastly, scattered valuable world loot like this should be randomized, so that the same rock pile doesn't always have stuff inside. Make it so that there are big surprises hidden around.
I ALWAYS believe I know the answer. Turns out I rarely understand the question.

Player since BETA (February 2014) and have the monkey to prove it. Level 50 in all classes and have mastered all normal skill lines. Still working on mastering all subclassed skill lines.

Yes, I would love for the game to feel less programmed and formulaic. Even things that might be surprises are spoilt by patch notes that tell you where everything is.

Agree with all this. And I also think fishing could have better surprises. Fishing and getting bait for other types of waters, is just.. nahh. And please get rid of those gunny sacks. They have just junk.

There's no dangers in swimming around either. In RL, there could be lots of nasty things living in the waters. Especially in the warmer climates.

Just imagine swimming, and a big fish comes and gulps you down... Crocodiles and lions and tigers are far too not-scary.
Crocodiles don't even come after you in water...

    One word Slaughterfish!

I wish I could remember where it was but I once spent an enjoyable hour trying to access two small platforms both with active fishing holes that were literally surrounded by slaughterfish, it was impossible but funny trying! 😂

Also there is a suprise in Apocrypha, although I do agree more would be nice!

There's a little Quest but not Quest in Craglorn that's like this, but it's been broken for years because you can't loot the Reward at the end. It's still a wholesome feel good Quest though.

The sad thing about Kollopi Essence is that, like all Disguises, it's permanently removed from inventory upon taking damage :(

I'm quite good at genetics (as a subset of biology) because I am an expert (which I know is a tautology).

Kollopi essence is fun to use in PVE. One time I was trying to harvest a node and couldn't. Message was someone else was already there. LOL. I wasn't paying real close attention and noticed the Kollopi Essence at the node. So I whispered that player and apologized for the intrusion because I had not seen the player. That was a great interaction with another player and went well.

There are other "surprises" in the game. I don't remember them all but there is one I will mention. When you run Imperial City Prison dungeon pick up the dungeon quest, at the end of the dungeon run after defeating the final boss you will get a special Leeching shield. It only drops that one time upon completion of the dungeon quest. Most people that I know of just sell it or decon it not knowing what it does. If you have a newbie character below CP 160 you may want to wait to pick up that dungeon quest if you want that shield at max level. You cannot reconstruct this special shield so if you want it at CP 160 you should wait till that character is at least CP 160 when you finish that dungeon quest. It comes from the quest NPC at the end of the dungeon run. What does it do? It talks to you. LOL. It bashes you constantly and threatens you. You will be the only player that can hear it. If you use the Leeching Plate set then this shield could fit your gear load out.

You can also stumble onto some hidden cashes with loot sometimes, I remember about two of them, somewhere on the streets of Kvatch and in a house in Hew's Bane, behind a tile on a wall. There was also others, but I can't remember where exactly they are, I've found them simply because of my manic exploration which is "leave no stone unturned"

save up your gunny sacks and use them on antiquity leads that come from chests. as far as the game and antiquity system is concerned, the gunny sacks are a treasure chest. if you go to the zone that you need the lead and open them, you have a chance to get it from the gunny sacks.

finally found the edit button XD

it does not matter who caught the gunny sack or where. it only matters where you open it

I didn't know this tree existed until I saw this thread yesterday, so I went looking for it, found it, and discovered that you don't need to do the quest in order to harvest from the tree.
But, the essence is a unique item/substance, so you can only carry one at a time per character. (for those who may be unaware, as I was yesterday.)

Check your collectibles to see if they made this a costume or polymorph yet. I know they did with a bunch of quest things like this. I want them to do that with the wisp you turn into for a quest, that I cant remember the details of right now. Only that part lol.

      Really?
A member of my trial team wears it all the time (it annoys me a little as he's harder to see, and I'm a healer) and it stays through damage, death and wipes.

Oh, I think this is what the shield says: "You fools are beneath me. My shadows will contend with you. What did Lyranth promise you? Why aid that wretch? There are no spoils here but death. Her clan deserved their fate; their souls will serve me unendingly."
"My shadows will tear you life away!"
      "My prey never escapes!"
"This flame will darken your soul!"
      "I walk the shadows!"
"Let shadows flay the meat from your bones!"
"I can strike from anywhere, mortal!"
"Hide! For all the good it will do!"
      "Dark light take you!"

LOL. There is a special Leeching Plate sword as well. I don't think it does anything special it's just unique iirc. It drops from the final boss iirc. Warden's Courage Sword

Went to PTS today to check. Both posters are correct, the Kollopi Essence does disappear when attacked, and it also does not.

Let me explain, if you wear the essence in the area where it is looted, all of the NPC's turn friendly, except the torchbearers. If you are seen by a torchbearer, they will attack and the essence will dissappear, this is because it is being used inside its home area. You can loot another essence after being attacked.

However, if you use the disguise outside of that home area, it is persistent, you can play normally and the invisibility remains, even through zoning.

I tested in a different zone, and in a different area inside Greenshade. The invisibility held without a problem. BTW, I also ran around that home area and found that the Kollopi tree is available in multiple spots. For those that don't know where these trees are located:
In Greenshade, find the Labyrinth wayshrine. Look east and there is a POI (eye icon). Search the area around the west side of the eye. Look for what looks like a palm tree with multiple crowns, not a single trunk. They are inside an enemy encampment.
