ZOS, Massive Spike in Ping/LAG in Recent Days - What Gives?

Tried to tank VMOL for the guild I play with and I disconnected 3 times. I gave up since I didn't want to waste everyone's time and they had to call in a replacement tank on the spot. What's interesting is that when I was no longer in VMOL and just played other content i.e battlegrounds and dungeons... I did not disconnect for the rest of the time I played (which was 2 more hours).

    Love that lol.

    Hows your problems been?

I haven't been playing. Log in to fill my store and log out. I seem to be the only one getting disconnected in whatever manner the game is dropping me. It's one of those, "Not on our end" kind of situations. I know it isn't my setup. :/

Why is the lag in this game been SO bad this week? constant rubberband and skill lag can't even organize inventory without lag, what is happening?

Back on the lag after the patch. Rolling through akamai. Probably because everyone is grinding mobs to relevel skill lines they have already leveled to 50 for new content. Sits around 250 but noticeable lag between keypress and action.
This recent update has made me sad. Sad for the game. Sad for the community. Sad to pay whatever it is now. I want the previous eso back.

Weird lag this game regarding lag and animation locking due to jabs.
I'm on a warden subclassed into templar and everytime I jab followed with a light attack, the animation gets stuck midway through the light attack.
Then for the next 20 seconds my toon is running around with one hand frozen in the air. I know skills are still working because the damage numbers are going off.

The second thing is the rubberbanding lag. Everytime I'm in a dungeon I will fire off a skill combo and the game will freeze for about a second and then skip to current time. I will combo Shalks and time it so that it hits when I'm jabbing and the trash mobs will go from full health to dead with nothing in between.

Yeop pvp responsiveness is some of the worse I've experienced. Doesn't even need to the ambush skill you've flat out refused to fixed. Anything.nit says im 251ms but it feels closer to 400.

I've been playing the past few days and I gotta say, no lag or skill issues. The only things I have are the pesky "kick to the curb" I get every now and then and the fact I cannot close the game at all now. Nothing works after the last update except using Task Manager and killing the process. We had all of this fixed before this update. Ugh.... Anyway progress right? :)

Did nLC on PC-NA last night for a bit of fun but performance was garbage. No one got logged out but there were plenty of rubberbanding ping and animation locking on skill. It was very frustrating because the trash mobs were teleporting around and about half the time I was Jabbing at thin air.
If I was playing vet I probably would have died multiple times from heavy attacks that lagged so badly you don't see them except on the death recap.

I'm an Australian here but I also play GW2 on a US server and I only have to deal with this kind of garbage performance in ESO; so I know it's not my internet connection.

Update 46 brought high CPU usage problems to the game. I'm seeing more than 10% higher CPU usage than before Update 46. This is going to cause higher frame latency and drop frames. It would be nice if some of this would be addressed.

It's not too bad. Happens rarely so I can live with it. Game play has been great so far. :) Can't close the game without using Task Manager now. Not the only one with this issue. Guess I just need to play 24/7!!! :)

As for the high CPU usage some are seeing, I haven't seen it myself. I am strictly PVE with no addons. Mine is using 11% - 13% depending on what is going on.

    UPDATE

I've been MIA for a while in this thread but wanted to chime in for a second and give an update to people/devs about my experience playing ESO.

    Recap Last Year:
    - Tons of rubber banding
    - Disconnects every few minutes
    - When I wasn't rubber banding or disconnecting I was having really high ping and overall lag (I was always behind in the group and they would have to wait for me to catch up)
    - Issue was replicated on multiple ISPs, 3 different computers with different brands, etc.

This thread started to get a lot of traction about 6 months in. Devs started to reach out to people asking for videos of their experience, we had the off the cuff PTS PVP test, and people gave lots of feedback about their overall experience.

ZoS said during the test they identified some issues that they planned on fixing, some more grace was added into the game for things like "blips" in network connection (reduced the amount of disconnects but increased rubber banding), overall internal tools were reworked to give better metrics, lots of positive things came from this thread.

My issues always remained though. After a near 6 month battle with my ISP tracking the network traffic, looking at backup ISPs, different routes, I had a tech come out for the... 5th time?.. and look at my network. Within 5 minutes he noticed that the fiber coming from the main line into my house had been "pulled, twisted, and ziptied so tight that it broke the fiber inside" which was causing the never ending and seemingly random "blips" in my network. They replaced 400ft of fiber and my network (knock on wood) has been perfect. I've ran with/in ball groups in Cyro and have zero lag, 20+ add-ons running, RDK running.. and it's just a vibe.

Side note - for those that are saying "I thought you said this happened on 3 ISPs.. how did it happen on all 3 if they broke the fiber on only one" - good point. I had DSL for the first one.. which isn't the most reliable so there were "blips". The second was Starlink... which it's sat internet so there will be blips... 3rd was fiber but ended up being broke.. so more blips. Before any of the changes ZoS made if you had a blip for even a second you were absolute toast.

I say that all to say.... sometimes when you're 999% convinced it isn't your setup... it might be something that is buried in the ground 400 ft from your house that is causing the problem. The changes ZoS made are huge for people like me who had "blips" they couldn't explain. It allowed me to still play the game. Yes, rubber banding is a pain but you know what is even more of a pain - getting kicked out of the game every 5-10 minutes and then having to wait in a 80+ person queue for an hour to get back in.... only to get kicked again in 10 minutes so thank you to everyone at ZoS that spent even a minute in this thread and tried to come up with solutions... I truly appreciate your efforts... it made a big impact for me (and probably a lot of people who don't even realize it to be honest

I hope this thread continues to bring positive change to the game and when people have issues they can scroll through this thread (or use AI to scrape it and give suggestions).

I'm not sure how active I'll be on the forums (or this thread) from here on out but if you have any issues playing the game, need help/suggestions on how to test your network to see if it's a "you issue", please feel free to DM me and I will always help in any way I can.

    P.S DC is life.

    Try this:
If you have lag problems in ESO since a specific windows 11 update (24h2) (especially during loading screens and occasionaly in game), find you processor specs, it's number of cores and number of threads, open your ESO UserSettings.txt file and find these 3 settings:

    SET MaxCoresToUse.4
-> here enter the number of cores for your processor multiplied by 3/4 (n*3/4) (round to the higher integer if the result is not an integer)
    SET RequestedNumJobThreads
-> here enter the number of threads for your processor multiplied by 2/3 (n*2/3) (round to the higher integer if the result is not an integer)
    SET RequestedNumWorkerThreads
-> here enter the number of threads for your processor multiplied by 2/3 (n*2/3) (round to the higher integer if the result is not an integer)

It solved the lag problems for me, don't modify if you have no lag.

Thanks, I'd not thought about checking these settings or I'd forgot to when I last saw something about them in a performance guide. Might try this later when the game is back up.

I'm telling you as someone who has experienced 999+ ping for about 2 years (the whole life of this thread) I can promise you I have a crap ton of insight as to how to test and see if it is your side or Zos. They have put a crap ton of work into improving their backend "stuff" to allow more grace in the game.

So my offer stands - if you really want to test and find out if it's a you issue or not... I'm always here to help. So are some other people that pop into this thread from time to time.

But just saying look at other threads clearly its a zos issue... isn't going to help anything. Anyone who has ever worked in IT knows full well the "its a you problem" 9 times out of 10 ends up being a user problem.
