They call it a "season's pass", but in the end it's a one-time purchase of the year's new content, some of it was already released, others will still come.

You'll get: 2 dungeons (that were released this spring), 1 new area with story content, sized about like the winter story dlc some years ago (will be released in June), another 2 dungeons (will be released in autumn), another new area with story content so basically the old winter story dlc released by a different name (will be released in winter).

Just this time you'll have to buy everything in one package instead of separately, and you'll also have to pay it at once now, instead of buying and paying it when it will be released.

For people who are not interested in the dungeon dlcs, it has become more expensive.

The content will not disappear at the end of the year, it will remain in the game and if you bought it, it's yours. Just like it had been with the dlcs before.

You can view it as this, or as getting 2 small story dlcs instead of 1 big summer chapter (I think each part is about the size of the old winter dlcs).

And maybe it's worth noting that it's a continuous story. And it all takes place on the same island, but that doesn't necessarily mean both parts looks the same - I think the second part we'll get in winter is magically altered (basically coldharbourized). At least I got that impression from one screenshot that was in the announcement. If someone's interested, I'll look for it and post it here.

Oh, and then there are 4 dungeons on top of this, but if you already have ESO+, it's basically useless, because you're getting access to them anyway.

Remember that future Seasons may look completely different from the current Season. It may have different kinds of content in it, and it may have a different duration.

This year is more of a transitional year, and its Season looks more like a traditional Chapter because of it.

I hope the price will be adjusted accordingly if the season is shorter or the content reduced. Would be sad to see if some day a half-year season (or even a quarter-year one) would cost as much as a full-year one...

Except that DLC are supposed to be included in ESO Plus. That was always the deal in the past. That is why long-term players know this is rotten.

Murkmire was a login reward, Deadlands and Firesong were given for free to people who bought the respective summer chapter, no matter whether they had ESO+ or not.

I'm personally more concerned about the content reduction in general, even without discussing prices. In the Morrowind and the Summerset year there were really huge summer chapters plus a smaller story dlc in winter. Then the summer chapters got smaller while the winter dlc retained its size. Then the summer chapters remained on that level, but the winter dlc was removed altogether. Then the size of the summer chapter shrunk even more. And not it looks like that shrunk summer chapter might not get even smaller, but it's split in two halves, with one moved to autumn to replace what ever would have normally been scheduled there.

If that trend would continue like that, I would expect the next "chapter" content to be split into 3 or 4 parts, replacing another 1 or 2 other dlcs. Although it might be even more probable that they shrink that even more. Or remove it altogether, since that content is probably more costly to produce than other types of content (and I'm not only saying that because I am a story/lore-focused player, but objectively, for story chapters or dlcs, you need writers, voice actors, people who design and create new assets and build the world - which is comparatively more work than just putting a few new quests into an old area, or even content without new story, that doesn't need writers or voice actors at all).

The Season Pass is the new name for Chapters. Just like how you had to buy Gold Road if you wanted to play it (and Necrom and High Isle and all the others if you wanted them in the first year) you now have to buy the Season Pass if you want to play in the new zone.

It also includes the dungeon DLC, but that doesn't benefit you if you also have ESO+ because those are also included in the subscription.

If it helps ZOS have confirmed that in a year the new zone and story will be rebranded DLC and included in ESO+, like the previous chapters were.

I'm not sure how next year will work, this year was released as a "chapter/season pass" because they already had the content worked on and partially done.

As mentioned, ESO+ never got access to current chapters. Unsure if this will change in the future, but don't act like you weren't going to get ESO+ for your craft bag alone. It is part of how the game is setup to fund it, make a problem with a real money solution.
