ZOS, Massive Spike in Ping/LAG in Recent Days - What Gives?

Mine was spiking for. 100-999+ most the evening, before the recent update that would rarely happen and would sit around 80-100 most of the time.

Prior to the recent update did you have any issues/dcing or rubber banding?

Occasionally but not every night since the update. I ran a dungeon earlier this week and sat around 240-700 for the entire run which is abnormal for me.

And it generally only happens in large PvP fights or zones with high player population.

Since the update if it's PC-NA primetime I can almost count on the ping being terrible.

Last night it was so bad I logged out of eso to play something else and it was fine (that games servers are located in Europe).

This happened to me today, again. All the days after update everything was fine, but today is damn bad. 999+ ping, then disconnect from a dungeon, twice. Error 334 on entering the game from my chars list. Erros and lobby connection lost during my regular gameplay process in overland or standing afk.

I bet this will change for me tommorow, and I will have a fine week again, but some day will be ruined after.

Is something up today? Been kicked from 3 bgs in a row, but overland seems to be working. FFXIV isn't reporting DDOS right now, so suspect it's not that. Stripped add-ons and still getting kicked.

I have a trial later and dread the ESO network will be doing its thing then as well. I don't understand why almost all other online games are pretty reliable for me (glares briefly at Nintendo), despite being in NZ, but it feels like pure gambling whether ESO is having a good day or a bad day.

BGs is practically unplayable tonight. Constant freezes/rubberbanding, skills/potions/barswaps not going off, all while my ping is under 100 the entire time.

Just PVE questing in Rivenspire yesterday and it was a mess. Skill fire not working properly and I would go to use my two handed sword and the sword did not spawn! It took 5-7 seconds for my weapon to show up in my hands even though I was doing damage. Fast forward a few hours and the sword issue seemed to go away but I had to deal with several actions not performing then all of the sudden the game caught up to me and it was speed killing as I watched the skills unfold.

As long as Akami is in my route this is my game play. Now I need to decide if I am willing to keep playing this way if they are going to need Akami on a regular basis. This is exactly what I left over before and was so excited when the problems went away. I know Akami may not be the issue for everyone but I have proven out it is my issue for everything but the disconnects.

I see Akamai hops in my traceroute, I see increased latency/ping spikes in-game. I don't know if the servers are receiving DDoS attacks all the time now, but my connection to the game is way better whenever it doesn't have to go through Akamai.

To be honest it almost seems like it's a 2 time a week thing.

Same here. My route without Akami is 2-3ms solid with no packet loss. Throw Akami in the mix and six hops are added with packet loss on many of the hops not to mention the constant spiking of latency on those hops.

I've been reading back through a lot of this thread. There's no "just fix it" because there are so many different issues presented.

There are at least 4 different majority problems in here.
1) player ISP issues - ZOS can't fix those - If you are dropping packets to google for example, it's not ZOS. You are gonna rubberband and eventually disconnect.
Pingplotter/MTR are your friend. Start here.
Running a physical cable through my wall/ceiling between floors fixed the problems I was having with wifi. I had been just coping with this for the 12 years I have lived here. Finally got tired of it and ran the cable.

2) Cyro lag/disconnect ball group issues - ZOS working on this - U45 fixed some, incremental and vengence campaign implemented some more. Disconnects should be way down. I ran for several hours in ball groups in vengence with no disconnects, low FPS in the 20-30s, but not much rubberbanding or lag.

3) trials issues - lag/disconnect in vLC And vSE for me - ZOS working on this - seems to be bad instances or mechanics - some new stuff in u45 should help debug this.

4) Australia/NZ latency and routing - There was a bad route via Singapore that was fixed a while back. APAC players are always going be much more succeptible to #2 as well due to +200ms latency to USA. If they drop a couple of packets, it takes 1/2 a second to catch back up at best.

The game has added a huge amount of complexity that is pushing the connection to the limit. Skills, classes, scribing, monster mechanics, all of which require more bandwidth to the client.

The rest seem to be having unique problems unrelated to above. Issues specifically with Akmai, etc.

I was just in Cyrodil, small fight on the backside of a keep.
Everything froze, but I was able to still run around for 5-10seconds, then I got kicked back to character select.
After selecting the character I was on, I was back in my house and had to re-enter the vengeance campaign.

This is exactly what packetloss looks like for me as well. If you're having issues I strongly encourage you to run ping plotter or the tool Jestertoo put together and see if your issues are actually PL related.

Hi everyone, I really want to say what I feel. I live in Argentina and have a 750mbps connection of optical fiber and I play in NA PC server.
I quitted ESO more than one time and always is because of the same, LAG. I play everytime, everywhere with 200/230 ms and is so frustrating to sometimes just swap the bar don't work, I REALLY CANT PLAY LIKE THIS. I can't even pve or pvp good, Im really sad and so frustrated.
I really don't understand how the best game of my life and the great game that is worldwide and with the spanish update to the game and everything, still dont have a server in Latinoamerica or can solve the issue of lag for the majority of people that I read they have for any part of the world since lot of years ago.
I tried lot of games in my life trying to play something similar to ESO but without lag and nothing is closely, the most recent game I played was New World and in all the games I played I DONT HAVE LAG but nothing is like ESO

, so you guys should work on this issue for real, because you are losing lot of players, nobody want to play a game with 200 or more ms when in another games lag dont even exist.

So guys I ask you with the full force of my heart, stop doing updates (as I saw you already announced) AND PLEASE FOCUS IN SOLVE LAG ISSUES. This game without lag dont have comparisson with any other game, would be perfect, but we cant play like this, you cant be a serious game and team if you dont work to fix this, there are infinite posts of help because of this issue in the forum, in another forums, just search in google and see how many people have this problem and how many people quitted because of this.
I really hope you team hear me and answer me too if have any future development to fix this, I bought yesterday all the dlcs with hope this game after 3 years would be different and sadly is still the same or worse in lag.
Please, hear your community, fix this problem and you will have the best game ever, at moment I can't recommend this game and I'm thinking again to uninstall it because I can't play like this, is so frustrating, cant do pve or pvp well, cant swap bar, throw skills without lag, so the game is literally unplayable, is so sad for me for real, I really love this game like no other and grinded a lot (1500 hours of playing) but you guys must show you love your players and your community, you must work for solve this as a priority and as fast as possible.

Hey there - thanks for dropping into the thread. A lot of what you're saying has been echoed by others and it sounds like ZoS is activley working on it. Have you had a chance to run a trace route or pingplotter (the first quoted message in this response)? If you haven't you can do it and dm me if you'd like and I can help see where the problem may be. It's highly possible you have a bad route or packetloss which is causing the "lag" issues you face.

Also could be add-on/pc spec related (although this is more often than not.. not actually the case).

Yeah, it's funny how I could sit for hours in Siro's vengeance mode without a single crash, but as soon as I entered ToT, I kept getting unexpected errors.

"Crashed" as in the game force closed or you got kicked to lobby/character screen.

Yeah, Vengeance was silky smooth for me (no pun intended.. okay maybe a little).

Do you mean Crashing to desktop or getting kicked back to character select / login?

Are you testing with pingplotter/MTR while you are playing to make sure you aren't dropping packets when the lag happens.

Are you testing with pingplotter/MTR while you are playing to make sure you aren't dropping packets when the lag happens?
