Disappointed by, but understand, Telvanni Efficiency Nerf

It was a set that really allowed you to create adaptable skill rotations for your companions in conjunction with its additive effect to the Quickened trait.

Made them feel rather impactful as their skills came out more quickly like another player with few or no cooldowns.

Of course that meant it was the BiS combo (trait+set) if you wanted to buff your companion without any other gear+trait combo coming close.

Not sure why it took them 2 years to “correct a mistake” like that.

But hey, maybe that means they’re thinking about making another set that can amp up your companions further to be used in conjunction, and this nerf was necessary as to not cause the companion to become too overpowered.

0 x 2 is still 0, that should really be the least of their concerns. There is no amount of reasonable buffing to companions from set pieces that could possibly cover what you lose from your character.

Using (Live) Telvanni with superior quickened gear turns the Companion Ember's 16s cooldown 27K tooltip Execute Thunderous Strike into a 3.8s cooldown ability. (Only quickened it's 11.8s)

Ember's Quick Fix turns from an 8s cooldown to a 1.9s cooldown. (useful for your own survivability, and your companion's, if you're not building tank and rushing acts 1-3 in a place like Infinite Archive).

Sniping Silver (12s) goes to 2.9s (9K tooltip and deals double damage to undead and Daedra, very useful in the Infinite Archive)

It's a "proc set", that can be used for survivability for yourself, your companion, and provides additional damage through faster casts of damaging abilities.

(And if you use a Lightning staff and the arcane nova, a good source of near permanent uptime Minor vulnerability from the 2.9s cooldown of Arcane Nova which also applies Concussed)

I'd wager it's the strongest solo player set in the game, where you have access to a Companion. (Especially when additive with the quickened trait).

I wrote about the change in the combat feedback thread:
Here, I have compiled a new spreadsheet which showcases the new possible and theoretical Companion ability cooldown values:
    n8iapi9kq3qo.png

Here is the theoretical largest cooldown bonus, when using Telvanni Efficiency with a Companion who has the 3% cooldown bonus in their racial passives and a Quickened setup of 11 Epic and 1 Legendary:
    08dbpfy70rxy.png

Compared to Live, this nerf to Telvanni Efficiency results in approximately a 2x increase to the cooldown. Here's the old chart:
    a2siqlw8xw7p.png

Note that Quickened and Companion racial passives are still additive. Telvanni Efficiency is calculated after the additive values, so it will always cut the cooldown in half.

I am disappointed by the nerf. I'll need to benchmark the Companion builds I have to see if they can still solo the world bosses they could before.

Yeah. From a numerical standpoint I understand the nerf.

From a solo, PvE, monetarily aspect, I don't know what they're thinking.

(Any argument about making other traits more valuable on companions: they're lackluster from the getgo, I'd like to see more action)

I don't have the pts version of the game installed so I can't check, but the patch notes read:

Telvanni Efficiency: Fixed an issue where the cost reduction bonus from this set was additive, rather than multiplicative.

I assumed this applied to the cost reduction when you don't have a companion, not to the cooldown reduction when you have one?
    Consistency: It's only a virtue if you're not a screwup (source: despair.com)

Telvanni efficiency isn't used for the non-companion bonus. Even before assuming on-companion use, it was trash.

Yeah, the wording is strange. I've verified that the Companion's cooldown reduction was fixed to be multiplicative, but I haven't checked to see whether the Player's cost reduction was changed. I'm not sure whether it was ever additive to begin with.

8% cost reduction for all of your active abilities (including Ultimates) whenever you don't have a Companion (this includes PvP) isn't a terrible set bonus, especially for a crafted set.

You mention Ultimate in you parenthesis. may I direct you toward the Potentates set?

An (individual non-companion cooldown based set, that, like COMPANIONS CANNOT Be-USED IN PVP, though in this case used)

Potentates is only available in weapons and jewelry. It gives you 3% reduced damage taken from players and 15% Ultimate cost reduction.

Telvanni Efficiency is a crafted set, meaning it's available in all body pieces in all weights, as well as weapons and jewelry. It gives you 8% reduced Stamina, Magicka, Health, and Ultimate costs to all of your abilities. You don't even need to have an active Companion be dead to make use of that cost reduction — this set can be (and has been) used in PvP.

The wording says "living Companion", meaning you only get the cooldown reduction when you have a Companion actively making use of it. Some people genuinely take this set into Cyrodiil because it's a great sustain set that's flexible enough to fit into any kind of build.

Oh. the PvP 5-piece set? I mean maybe. sure. but then why nerf the PvE aspect when it has no connection to PvP? All this was was a PvE nerf.

The only change was the PvE interaction with the PvE quickened trait.

I just get the feeling that they meant for Telvanni Efficiency to cut Companion ability cooldowns in half. Before, when it was additive, it did much more than reduce the cooldowns by half — it was most likely a bug they somehow discovered and got around to fixing in Update 45.

As far as I know, nothing was done to the player bonus; just the Companion bonus.

Yes. Which is why this thread is titled: Disappointed by, but understanding, Telvanni efficiency nerf.

It made companions much more impactful, notably through a seemingly 2 year oversight. Which has now ended. may they RIP.
