I don't mind having to unlock them on each character. However, I do feel that once one character has acquired their Token, then the Rapport Quests shouldn't pop anymore. The point of Rapport is to increase their XP gains. Well if they're max level, there are no XP gains anymore.

I'd really like to not have to choose between companions always having a "I have a Quest for you!" pointer on the top of their head, or having a quest in my tracker that can't be dismissed.

Absolutely not. Every character has their own set of quests not just for rapport but for the story of the character as well. Quests should never be account wide, apart from tutorial quests. If you don't want to see the quest pop up, just don't increase their rapport.

Easier said than done. The only way to not increase their rapport is to not use them at all.

And yes, each companion has their own set of quests. But those quests are guaranteed to have been completed if you have received their token. So the player has already benefitted from the story of said character. Requiring the player to revisit a questline that is no longer needed is akin to leaving a Nag mechanism behind.

There's no reason they can't change it up so that after you get the token, the quests only pop if you intentionally dig them out of the "Let's talk about our partnership" companion dialog.

The amount of rapport you get for just having them follow you around is miniscule. It would take forever to level rapport that way, especially since some of it will also be decreasing by doing things they don't like. If someone is frequently getting quests it's generally because they are doing the quests that are intended to give them big rapport boosts. And the only purpose to do that multiple times is to see those quests

while it is miniscule it does add up

for example on a couple of my toons, isobel is trying to give them the first quest and ive never done any of the big rapport dailies for her on those toons, they have just slowly been gathering rapport from farming stuff like WB and dungeons, or even entering the undaunted enclave is actually like 5-20 pts (20 for first time per day, 5 after few minute cooldown)

it took a few months to get to that point but it is possible to get companion rapport up over time without doing the big rapport bonus quests

they should have an option in the crown store if you already have that companion at max level on one character to just buy the ability to use that companion on another character similar to fighters/mages guild + skyshards + scrying/excavating.

so 20 characters would only cost about 19x3000= 57,000 crowns to get a certain companion unlocked on all your characters

I think they are at 8 companions (not sure why you would want them all on every character) so 57k x 8 =456,000 crowns

seems a bit wasteful this way but fairly reasonable if you did not want to have to unlock them in game

    that is entirely unreasonable

cause we already did unlock them in game, leveled them etc, zos just put on a RP stipulation that we have to do the intro quest with each character to be able to use them, with absolutely no way to bypass it like the tribute tutorial

even the scribing intro to unlock that takes 5 minutes, which is acceptable

personally its already unacceptable to have the bypasses for any of the skill lines in the crown store, i mean they are even selling vamp/WW cures in the crown store even though it costs a minuscule amount of gold in game for visiting 1 npc

i never have, and never would pay for those

if companions were added to that, i would still just continue not buying them, complaining about the companion intros, and let them rot in the closet until i could use them on more characters for an account wide unlock i already unlocked

Please let us unlock the ability to summon a companion with ALL OUR CHARACTERS if we have that companion's achievements unlocked.

I am NOT having fun unlocking all these companions on 20 characters.
Doing the same questchain 20 times is a horrible gaming experience. Two new companions coming out is 40 questchains over and over again.

I don't do All the companions, but I do like the suggestion. Fortunately we do not have to buy a Banker for every character, so I would think the same rules would apply to Any NPC on the account, despite not paying real money for them.

There's no reason that the initial quests can't still be available.

Actually, in SW:TOR, there is a choice for that. If you get companion (outside of main quest), game gives you two items. You choose first one if you wanna unlock companion through quest or second one if you wanna immediately unlock that companion. Maybe, ZOS can implement something similar to ESO, don't you think?

I've mistakenly had Azandar or Tan out while doing crafting dailies. Now I'm stuck with that annoying quest marker over their heads ><

i think tanlorin is the only one that gets big rapport boost from crafting (alchemy daily writ)

with the big rapport boosts, it only takes 2 dailies to reach the first rapport quest, and 4 for each other rapport quest (if you do the rapport quests)

i also wish there was something done about those quests, because you have to claim the quest if you want to interact with them (such as changing their gear or skills, or costumes), and if you abandon the quest the marker just pops back up, so its basically eating a quest slot until you just do it

Chiming in with an agreement. Or an option like when you enter Cyrodiil to skip the intro quests so that people who want to do them with alts still can, since some ppl don't like account based unlocks.
