Can we get an option to continuously run or ride without having to keep pressing forward?

See subject line, PS4/5. For those of us who are getting older having to continuously press the forward button on consoles results in sore joints. I just started experiencing this recently and after asking around in guilds it appears I am not alone, especially for those of us who PVP as you are riding a LOT. I've taken to pressing the joystick with my knuckles lol. Apparently it's an issue for youngsters as quite a few said they have the same problem once in a while.

Anyway possibly an option to auto ride and run at some point? Please?

This is already a thing, check your keybinds. Due to lack of buttons on controller I’m not sure if its already bound but I’m sure you can bind it yourself.

Autorun is in game, it's just not bound by default. You can just go into your keybinds and set it up.

You mean the auto-run you can set in your keybinds? Mine is set to CAPSLOCK and I just tested and it works when mounted as well.

You can set it to what you want, but you hit it and your character moves forward.

Or are you on console? Do they not have that?

Depending on what console you are on you have 2 solutions: PlayStation controllers let you remap every button, so I would suggest assigning the "press left analog stick" function to the left trigger and procede with some bit of remapping to find a good fit for your playstyle.
I'm on Xbox and our controllers don't allow remapping of triggers specifically, so I bought a Nacon Revolution X Pro controller which has also 4 additional back buttons. I mapped the left analog stick press to the left trigger and moved block to a back button. With this controller you can also half press the trigger to "trigger" the action.

I can't press the analog sticks anymore and this is how I solved.
I'll add, after moving the sprint to the trigger I discovered I don't have to keep it pushed, I can just half press the trigger once and the sprint will continue until I stop moving.

    Hope this helps you :)

Well, this is something that definitely should be available for consoles, so hopefully ZOS will do something about that. I can’t imagine not having that feature.

Unfortunately, remapping your controller button doesn't really solve the issue. The OP is looking for an Auto-Run toggle like you have on PC that you tap once and the toon keeps running until you manually stop. On console there is no Auto-Run, only holding the stick forward. So you'd still have to hold it down regardless which button it's mapped to.

[edit] Mixed up what I meant to say, I didn't mean to reference sprint. Edited to fix.

I don't get what you are talking about: my character runs without the need to press anything on console, just push the stick forward but no need to press it. Sprint needs to be pressed but just once, not keep pressed, and if you remap it to a trigger then you barely touch it and you keep sprinting until you stop. If it's just run and not sprint... I don't get the issue since you don't need to press anything really, just give directions alone with the stick, without pressing it.

EDIT: On console, walking, jogging and running are made with the only use of the stick, without pressing it, depending on how much you move the stick from its centered position...

in other games Auto Run is one button to toggle that makes your character move forward on their own.
No clue how it is on PC ESO as i have never used it on there.
But i know we don't have it on Playstation ESO.

Autorun means that you press the key once and then the character keeps moving until you do something to stop it. The equivalent thing on the console (which I know doesn't exist) would be that you move the stick forward once and then let it go, and your character would still keep moving. IOW, you would not have to hold the stick in the forward position to keep the character moving.

I use a controller on the PC, and I'm so happy that I can still use the keyboard because I use the autorun key (for me it's NumLock) all the time. I wouldn't be able to play ESO as much without that key. Having to hold the stick in the forward position for long periods of time would aggravate an RSI. I just wouldn't be able to do it.

Yeah, I had changed my sentences around a few time and got lost in the maze. I edited it to reflect what I had meant to say.

You have have to hold the stick regardless whether it's a short run or across an entire zone. The OP wants a toggle because of their aging joints/arthritis.

Oh, ok. Since I had issues with keeping the analog stick pressed and solved them remapping, I didn't think about the possibility of having issues simply by moving the stick.
Since the OP used the term "press" I thought their issue was related to the pressing, just like me. Personally I don't find problems in just moving the stick at the moment, and really hope to not reach that point with my condition...

Perhaps the OP suffers from the same issue I run into periodically: I occasionally find myself literally pressing the stick hard all the way forward. I have to mentally reset a bit and remind myself that I only need a light touch to hold it in position.

Now if I could just convince my brain that I don't actually need to force the 'A' (interact) button out through the back of the controller...

I always find it weird how many options in this game are on one platform and not the others.

Sometimes it's a practical limitation, for example apparently on consoles you can move slower than the default jogging speed but faster than the default walking speed just by pushing the thumb stick more gently. PC doesn't have that, we've got 3 options - a toggle for walking speed (which is very slow), the standard jog and sprinting, but that's because we don't have an analogue input that would allow that kind of contol over your movement.

But other times, like the absence of auto-run on consoles, it makes no sense at all to me. I know someone will say it's because a controller has fewer buttons than a keyboard, but IMO that just means it's even more important to give console players all the options and let them decide what they want to use those buttons for.

I get it just from farming mats. You are almost constantly pressing the left joystick forward.

I suppose it wouldn’t help too much there with all the stopping and restarting, though.

I agree 100%. There is no excuse, there are plenty of buttons controllers can use. I have stopped playing this game so much now as I have started to play Throne & liberty and surprise, surprise us console players there do have this exact feature as well as 12 combat skill slots, not having to swap weapons to use skills from other weapon and a whole heap of other improvements, UI and controller wise.

Perhaps ZOS devs need to just spend 1 day playing that game on console (it's free, you lose no cash, only time!) to get some ideas. It would not be classed as stealing, I promise. Heck it could be said that, that game has stolen ideas from here and GW2 as well as many others I am sure anyway, after all, all games do it lol.

PS, one of my fave things to do in ESO is to walk in super slow motion by pressing the joystick as slow as possible. It looks hilarious and like in those movies that play super slow mode. I admit it can take some skill to do it right tho. :p

Thank you, I bought a Victrix Pro BFG Wireless Controller, not sure if it has an option to map the joystick to one of the back triggers but I'll check it when i get home! It'll probably still need held down but at least I can lay the controller sideways (the triggers are very sensitive) and press it just by laying it down.

It wouldn't be so bad but when you ride or are stuck in combat in PVP for minutes at a time it's not fun. I don't really have any problems with my fingers in life or other aspects of the game just this(so far!).

See subject line.

Please?

    You're welcome!
I destroyed my thumbs playing Splitgate and having sprint on "press left analog stick" and melee attack on "press right analog stick", playing the mode with only bats as weapons - I can't press an analog stick anymore, ever. But it was fun XD

Now I remap sprint on the left trigger in every game, and the right stick command to a back button.
Hope you can enjoy playing for many years more :)

I can understand the request. My left thumb joint aches most of the time because I play too much.

I feel that. I did a VCR that didn't go well and we were in there for three hours. By the time it was done I was exhausted and pained. And I didn't bother playing again for a couple of days.

I wish this game had auto-run.

@spartaxoxo please help me understand: autorun would move our characters automatically, but we would still need to give directions, right?
So we would still need to move the stick but we would be able to just give a minimum directional push, and this would help with our thumbs?

If this is the case, I think it's kinda doable with certain controllers like the one I mentioned. It has a dedicated app that lets you regulate the analog sticks performance: you can set on a graph when you want the movement to start and how quickly it reaches max speed. So you could make it run at 0.1 angle from default position: insta-run.

True, this would not be the perfect solution because you would lose the ability to walk slowly, but it's an alternative, if it may help... :)
