Poll: Would you accept a roll back to a previous patch in exchange for better performance?

Hi All,
Remember a few years ago when ZOS upgraded their servers and for a few glorious months, things ran smoothly?

Would you be willing to give up some of the new features over the past few years (Tales of Tribute, Companions, Arcanist class, Infinite Archive etc) to have a smoother-running game with far fewer dcs or a much larger population can in Cyrodiil.

Include in the comments which patch you'd want the game rolled back to or what you'd like be happy to give up.

No and I don't think I ever would.

An expansion gets released with all it's features. You purchase the expansion because of all that.

If such a serious rollback like that happened, a refund to everyone who purchased said expansion/things should be expected. It'd be such a loss refunding all that.

Crashes are rather rare for me in recent years.

Cyrodiil for me has always had iffy performance.

If you read through old threads you'll notice that people have virtually always complained about the balance and performance in Cyrodiil.

Absolutely not. I would not roll back years worth of progress. I also don't think ZOS should ride in on a pegasus and fling candy at random people passing by their headquarters. I feel like there's better uses for a pegasus.

Hell no, I'm having zero performance issues. Except for the extremely rare 999+ ping spike, which happens like once every 4-5 days.

Meanwhile I have progressed so much... did an entire alliance for 100%, completed all new companion quests on 20 characters to unlock them, did loads of master writs, got all witches fest items, gained almost max rapport on the two new companions, gained over 200k fortunes. And that is only during this witches fest! A rollback should only ever be a very last resort, some performance issues should never warrant a rollback.

As you can see, I've been playing quite a bit without any performance issues. So HELL NO!

I personally couldn't care less about the card game, but still, removing a whole feature that has been used (and is used) by players for several years makes no sense. How about just updating the servers instead?

IMO the issues having nothing to do with new content and everything to do with poor decision making. Stuff like:
    • Character Animations butchered around Dark Brotherhood, to allow for an Active Ability + Light Attack to animate at the same time
    • Combat Balance handled by a spreadsheet, to standardize balance which removes the need for Devs to intricately understand their game
    • Zone Quest storylines (particularly for DLCs) do not end in their zone, but rather carry on throughout a larger storyline. As a new player, your chances of becoming confused by traveling to zones outside of the intended chronological order is 100%. Also Account Wide Achievements causing random NPC dialogue about your character to get mixed up with your other characters. Goodbye immersion.

Combat was more fun in the past but I also don’t care much anymore. Im playing this game far less and would rather not delete everything I’ve accomplished over the years.

It's purely academic as it would never happen. However, I'd oppose it anyway on the basis that I have no interest in Cyrodiil and have never had any significant performance issues over the years. It's far from clear just what proportion of the playerbase does experience such issues, some complain that it affects overland content but throughout the current event I have been in packed areas, delves and dungeons etc and everyone seems to be running around quite normally.

Yet Blizzard has made a fortune with a continued spray of Classic versions of WOW. Every version of WOW released as "Classic". And when that ran out they reinvented a "new" classic version Season of Discovery. And now that "Down Under Classic rework". Got to wonder how many times players will return to kill Hogger? Part of their reasoning was all of the private WOW servers. I'm not familiar with any private ESO servers.

But ZOS has answered this before and said there would be no classic ESO. I'm not even sure which "version" would be classic. You remember ESO wasn't that great on release? I remember the time around 610 CP and there wasn't a lot of proc sets. And that would probably only appeal to the PVP market and when sliced up, this would probably not be that many players.

That's absolutely pointless discussion at that. We have no idea what exactly contributing to that and what's not plus our own biases like I personally detest tales and companions as an additions to the game and possibly it's health, obviously I'd be all arms and legs up for removing those.

We can fantasize all we want about patches of the past but we're here and now already, nothing getting scrapped at this point as those already released.

How about we shut down Cyrodiil and Imp City? Problem solved ...

No, I am kidding, ofc. The issue is multi layered and has many aspects. And so the resolution to this is naturally difficult, takes a long time and considerable commitment by ZOS.

And the truth is that ZOS doesn't really know what it is that causes so much strain on the servers.
Maybe it is how healing works?
Maybe it is the fact that the entire character's data sheet is loaded into PvP?Maybe its the script heavy combat encounters?
Maybe it is the many set piece effects, that have to be checked for?
Maybe it is just the old engine and the legacy code?
Maybe it is the synchronicity between different clients at different fps?
Maybe it is the combination of everything?

All I can say for sure, is that when I experience performance drops, it is because my client cannot handle high amounts of players at the same time. Basically meaning the more players are causing visual effects and/or combat effects, the slower my client gets. That is my observation.
When I play Cyrodiil during events or for farming Cyro stuff on Alts, I have no issues. I go into NoCPNoProc and there is almost noone there. My client stays at 60fps and the server connection is between 66ms and 83ms. It is very consistent and I have no problems at all.
But when I go to West Weald and do Mirrormoor Incursions during prime time, I get low fps consistently. When 30 players and their companions start their flashy rotations at the same time, my client goes into "no, not me, not today" mode.
If anyone here says: OH! But, PVP! I swear I'll ...

Thank you for the valuable input and respectfully recommend to discuss that aspect of ESO on the PVP forum.

    LOL,

If you are that desperate to give up so much, they should just make PvP a separate instance running on separate hardware and a separate app/build with a nightly sync for what sets you unlocked on the PvE app.

That way nothing can interfere with your PvP performance and balance updates.

If people are that unhappy for so long, why not look for another game. It will not magically change after 10 years now.

Pretty sure there's currently no games with PvP like eso presents with more or less similar mechanical side to it, read: combat system. That's pretty obvious people would want their experience back and enhanced. People don't want it to change, they want it to work. Asks for changes to PvP might only refer to the subjective better balanced times with better performance.

It is overly generic as we do not know what patch it would be rolled back to. Granted, it could not occur in a poll question, not very well at least.

With any rollback, we would easily give up the archive and the Group finder since they are fairly recent additions. Even then, the performance was not good. It would probably take rolling back to much earlier days of the game, sometime before I joined up here. That means a lot of homes, mounts, outfits, and motifs. Then there is the reason it will not happen: the revenue that would have to be returned from crown and expansion sales.

I mean if something this drastic was actually gonna happen, they'd be better off moving pvp to its own server, with none of the rest of the game included. Or starting a new classic eso server.

Rolling back the entire game to an earlier time based on a hope that pvp would work better seems far-fetched to me, and would be sure to alienate a vast amount of the player base.

Of course, since I don't really pvp, I'd rather they reduce or eliminate dev and server resources allocated to pvp to focus on improving the parts of the game I like. But, I don't think that'd go over very well either, and I'm not actually the kind of person who would request they remove everything I don't personally like from the game.

Same here. Since purchasing my PS5, problems with lag, crashes, other problems simply don't exist anymore. Not even in Cyrodiil.
