    Curate everything.

Limit the drop times of no drop, for those bosses etc with something to drop.

    Job done.

Curation wouldn't have helped me in this situation because I wasn't get any leads! That being said, I am 100% an advocate of curation to avoid this type of frustration. Just have a respectable drop rate (20% for treasure maps feels fair), and then have the leads be curated until you have completed the codex. After that you still get leads at X drop rate, but they can be any of the leads in the pool. I've burned untold hundreds of maps in Apocrypha trying to get the Apocryphal Well, but no dice. It's honestly so off-putting that I have zero interest in playing the game. ZOS needs to do better.

usually what ive been doing is i heavily farm for the first drop since those come pretty quick

then i usually just do leads as i get them or when they show up in the archive vendor and i still need codex entries

helps prevent the burnout and frustration of trying to farm for the 2nd or 3rd drop which historically have much lower rates than the first drop

AKA, historically antiquities/leads are not even remotely fun. It's a shame that player's feedback falls on deaf ears.

I can see how you wouldn't find them fun - I however love antiquities personally. Of course - the kicker is, I don't care if I ever complete codex entries.... For me, it's not a grind, and my feedback is, I like it the way it is.

Frankly there are just TOO MANY antiquity leads gated behind treasure maps... and no way to specifically farm those treasure maps for the specific zone.

And, increasingly recently, not just the "one and done" things like the various Ancestral motifs, which have 1 factoid each, but the "gotta do it three times because there are 3/3 factoid entries to get", especially when there's like seven or eight items of that type in the zone.

Even the Motifs are bad enough. Ancestral Reach, Ancestral Breton, Ancient Daedric... For goodness sake, CURATE THEM. I'm up to 13/14 of the Ancestral Reach, somehow: the next time I get an Ancestral Reach motif from a map, PLEASE make it so that it is guaranteed to be the missing one!

The number of leads and lack of curation is the crux of the matter. At least with the first batch of Ancestral motifs, each map would only have a chance to drop 1 or 2 different motif chapters. Now when maps all share 7-8 possible leads, it's a complete nightmare. As it stands, you need to loot or buy the right map, maybe it will drop a lead, and maybe that lead will be one that you need. Layers of RNG are a terrible idea and show just how silly the current lead implementation is for antiquities buried behind treasure maps.

I finally forced myself not to worry about leads due to them not being gained for my time and effort but rather in the hands of an rng slot machine. RNG is okay but this particular game uses RNG A LOT. So I avoid everything that forces RNG if possible for the most part. It’s just another tactic used to prolong time spent in game. Every MMO uses it and it’s a sorry excuse of a mechanic for the most part. But if people made good games that were fun to play they wouldn’t rely so heavily on such crappy mechanics. 🤷🏼‍♂️
