PvP Enabled in Housing

TLDR; PvP should be enabled in player housing cause it would create player engagement for both the PvP community and Housing community which is good for the game at large.

I’m sure I’m not the first person to propose something along these lines but I think it would be awesome.

Nothing too specific, but as a general system I imagine it could work something like this:

-Housing editor has a toggle for PvP to be active for all players within the housing instance.
-The housing entrance can have a small perimeter where players are immune, and can leave the perimeter while remaining immune until performing an action (think IC when moving from district to district.)
-The PvP in the housing instance will act as a free for all unless players are grouped.
-Grouped players get all the benefits you’d expect from being grouped: heals, buffs, etc, most importantly no friendly fire.
-Grouping can be toggled.

Something along these lines would open up so much potential between both the PvP and Housing communities.

PvPers get an another activity to participate in - albeit with no rewards. Looking to dominate in a 12 man free for all? This hot map just dropped, and you just got accepted to the white list. Looking to compete in a competitive 2v2? That one guild hosts tourneys in their coldharbor plateau. A place to theory craft and test your competitive 4v4 group comps for bg’s? Lemme just hit the toggle. It opens up a ton of possibilities with the incentive for the player being just enjoying some action. Which is more than enough for most of us, even if it’s non competitive amongst friends or guildies - but with the potential if organized well enough, can push the competitive scene that staked duels have too. A system that the players govern themselves.

Housing players really get to shine. ESO has one of the best housing systems in the genre. Some of the homes that these players create are amazing, and are incredibly creative and detailed. It would be insane to see what people could come up with when designing their houses with the PvP elements in mind.

ZOS themselves would benefit, as the demand for dedicated houses for PvP arenas would certainly boost crown sales. The housing system doubles as player created pvp content. Giving players the ability to create their own content is a huge win.

There would obviously be kinks to figure out, like stuck in combat bug, gap closing/clipping through furnishings, LOS of abilities not functioning normally with furnishings, etc etc.

As a general idea, PvP enabled in housing. What are your thoughts?

They will never do that because it would probably be better than the decade mess they call pvp now.

What's the loss? I've given this idea all of 30 seconds so far but it sounds like a win win to me.

One limitation off the top of my head is ground abilities not working except on the original surfaces, there would need to be some way to "publish" a new mesh with the player placed surfaces, everytime you move anything you'd have to re-do it, but maybe you could just process small areas at a time. I'm just guessing there actually I'm not 100% sure that's right.

But it would still be awesome limited to the original surfaces just like dueling or parsing.

Ground based abilities would definitely be an issue. I’m sure there would be several kinks to iron out with furnishings interacting with abilities. Anyone who’s ever dueled in a house knows that to be true.

But yeah I’d even be happy with furnishings acting as walls or LOS. Even some default terrain would make for some fun map designs. Like Thieves Oasis, or Pantherfang Chapel as is are interesting enough at base level with no furniture. Interacting with doors and what not I’m sure won’t be possible if in combat.

But grand scheme, a system like this would open up nearly endless possibilities for the player base to engage with it, even as is with current blatant short comings or limitations.

I'd never engage with the system myself because PVP is my antithesis, but maaaaaaan, I would love to just walk around and see the arenas people build in places like Coldharbour Surreal Estate or Moon-Sugar Meadow.

Spectator mode for non-PVP'ers who just wanna watch the chaos if there's an active fight and room for more visitors would be awesome too, though probably beyond what ZOS could-and-would do. (You'd have to put in a lot of security to keep spectators from helping combatants, for example. ZOS would probably do nothing and just say, "Well, that's the risk you take when you allow people in!" like they do with guild bank thieves.)

a PvP toggle could be fun for a home like Elinhir Private Arena,
or other arenas people build from scratch.

Elinhir itself is in the spirit of the concept. A Colosseum match would go hard. Players creating their own “game modes” or win conditions could be fun too. Like a Last Man Standing, or an unarmed brawl, Kill player X to score a point. Not integrated in the system itself of course, but just moderated by the players themselves. Sky’s the limit. Also a spectator mode would be the cherry on top for sure.

Curious how the housing instance would be with performance though. I’d assume it would maybe run smooth because it’s an instance?

Free-for all PvP with infinite respawns and no scoring inside houses would be pretty cool.

Would be good until 'stuck in combat' meant you could never leave....
