a question on Achievements

The system used to be that every character created started all their Achievements from ground zero. So, we know that the system can easily handle the differentiation between characters that have earned specific Achievements on the same account.
Now the system changed, and the vast majority of Achievements are Account based, so even though, for example, a specific character has not yet caught the Pearlescent Crayfish, the character already has the Artaeum Master Angler title.
My question is - since there are some players who actually enjoy earning those Achievements for each character, why can't there be a toggle at Character Creation, that determines IF the Account Wide Achievements are to be applied to this character?
It can't be that difficult, since each individual character being required to earn each Achievement for themselves Was the Standard in the past.
And It would Not force those who like everything to be Account wide from having that option.

Thoughts?

We all asked for a toggle - and ZOS declined to give us one.

It's much cheaper on storage to only store one copy of each achievement per account, rather than x many copies of each achievement per account, where x is the maximum number of character slots per account.

Giving players the option to earn achievements per character once again would undo that optimization that the change to account wide achievements was intended to make.

If it was truly storage space, it would have been the first answer they gave us when we all brought these issues up before AwA was implemented. It wasn't until page 80 or 90 that they finally said "oooh, but it might help performance" so I call this questionable at best. It's been very detrimental to my enjoyment of the game and I absolutely think we need some kind of character journal, like @peacenote has explained in their "decouple" thread.

If we have to keep losing things to get other things, it makes this experience much worse.

Can't un-ring the bell. Best they could do at this point is provide a toggle for newly created characters.

    Granted

But that was the same when they switched to account wide. I don't think they would have bothered to go back through every character's achievements. I would assume it would be ' from this point forward we are using a new system'.

This to me was such a respectless and bad change. And it made me quit playing my alts.

I'm all for a model where you could follow your accountwide achievements, but still view that characters achievement progress - maybe in a seperate page, and then be able to toggle the character or account-wide one off, depending on how people liked to play.

Sadly that change lost me many of my eso friends. A bunch of people disliked the change enough to quit. For me it made the game experience worse, and left a bad taste since they didn't listen to the community that was being quite clear about what it wanted most.

Because Account Wide Achievements was made to help with game performance.

That's why nowadays we have zero lag and the game performance is great. :s:s:s

I've never bought that explanation (which ZOS pulls out whenever they do something unpopular). Look at the lorebooks. There's over 5000 now and they're tracking those per character. Same with recipes. Same with crafting motifs. If it was a storage-related issue, they'd be making a lot more stuff account wide.

Me too. I might play one occasionally for a change, but I went from cycling through all my characters to playing my main 99.9% of the time. The crazy thing is, they want repeatable systems. Well, they had a repeatable system with character-based achievements. Instead we get mindless systems now.

There is no going back to old system now. On the other hand that earned by tag should be gone as well.

So if there were too many achievments, why do they keep retroactively adding new ones to old game content like the fenced items and guild trader in each zone? That stuff is pointless and just fluff. I did all that already 100 times.

Been wondering that myself. Especially the "beginner" harvesting ones I keep getting on all my Grand Master Harvesters....

Not asking to go back to the 'old system'. Asking for an option to toggle at character creation for each new character created.

And having thought it over, I'm not seeing very much 'space' that is said to be saved with the current system vs the old. ONLY major Achievement titles are applied account wide. Master Crafter, Master Angler, Dark Anchor destroyer etc.

For every Character, the System still has to keep track of the individual steps that go into gaining that title. One character does not reach level 50 in crafting, and then ALL characters after immediately start at level 50. They all start at level 1 and have to develop normally. This applies to All areas, so the vast majority of the data that was required to be saved using the Previous system, still is required to be saved using the Updated system.

This is why I think giving the players the Option to Not Apply the major Achievements titles Account wide, at character creation, is doable. Each Player would have the option to handle the Achievements in the manner that They enjoy. Players who want a more RPG feel, would Not have their character starting with titles Like Master Crafter (when they have done no crafting) or Master Angler (having done no fishing) etc.
