Werewolf's first usable Skill Style in Update 43 — Roar, Verdant Green

Since the introduction of Skill Styling in Update 42, the only playstyle which could not utilize the initial batch of Skill Styles was Werewolf, because none were made for the Werewolf skill line. Now, we're getting a brand new Skill Style for Roar, which is said to be colored green. It will be available via a fragment chase or alternatively purchasable with Archival Fortunes.

This is huge news for Werewolf players. Finally there is a way to interact with the Skill Styling system. Although I can't say any of us expected to be able to color the visual effects of Roar to a green color (what exactly would that recolor — the emanated sound waves or the saliva that splashes everywhere?) what I hope is that this is only the first of many new Skill Styles for the Werewolf skill line. Maybe we'll even get some for Werewolf Transformation itself some day!

Here is a clip from the Update 43 preview stream where the upcoming 6 Skill Styles are discussed:

It's not ideal, but it's something. Hopefully the next Werewolf Skill Style is a bit cooler than that.

It's a welcome start, but I fear we will have to a wait a long time for more useable skills and if the rest of the scribing system is anything to go by they will be so lame that we won't want them anyway. All I want is the behemoth style, the current WW look is 10 years old and shows it.

Is it green to match Hircine effects sometimes being green? It's nice that we got more Skill Styles so soon, hopefully there's more for werewolf coming up.

Maybe? We haven't actually seen it yet, so hopefully it isn't just some cruel jab at werewolves, making them look unhygienic. It could very well be thematic to Hircine and The Hunting Grounds — but then, wouldn't Hircine's Bounty be a better candidate for such a Skill Style?

It's looking like each grouping of skills is getting their one color, so I would guess that any werewolf skill styles would also be green, at least for the first batch.

That's an interesting observation. I noticed many of the Bow Skill Styles were red, but I hadn't made the connection that each skill line has their own color. Maybe we will get varying shades of green for Werewolf, which admittedly is a fitting color thematically for anything related to Hircine.

Yeah; generally stamina stuff are getting red/orange, magicka stuff are getting purple/blue, with some exceptions.

I really would have hoped the first werewolf Skill Style was for the transformation itself.

In my personal lore, one of my wolves is a greyish brown. I normally keep his transformation unmorphed for that reason, but it'd be nice to allow me to keep that color scheme while letting me finally morph the skill.

I agree. I personally think that all morphs of Werewolf Transformation should have the brown fur, then the other fur colors (white, black, and grey) could be unlockable Skill Styles from the Werewolf achievements (such as Werewolf Corpse Devourer for black fur, Werewolf Sire for white fur, and Wandering Werewolf for grey fur). So it'd be easy to have any color of fur you'd like, while opening the system to expand into other kinds of skins (like new fur colors or polymorphs for the transformation).

Of course, I'm thrilled to be getting anything. I'll use this Skill Style, even if it looks strange, just to show ZOS that I want more for the Werewolf skill line. Same thing goes for Werewolf Grimoires — even if the first Werewolf Grimoire doesn't have a particularly useful Script combination for it, I'll still use it in my builds on principle.

It is nice I guess.... but... but... I am not gonna say that I am disappointed, as I kinda expected nothing, so hey ! Green tint on a skill is well... it is not nothing, so it has to be something.... right ?

I am gonna say however that most WW players kinda accepted that WW is and always will be in a bad spot, so most were just asking for some proper cosmetic items/upgrades for WW. Different WW models, or maybe different were-creatures, or maybe some cool emotes or animations etc.

When I have heard that scribing will allow to alter skills & abilities visuals, then I was like: Since they are touching on this, then maybe it will be possible.... but getting a "tint" or different colour effect just feels like some one altered RGB code and called it a day lol...

We won't know how it looks until we get access to the PTS this Monday, so maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised. I looked at the base visual effects of Roar on Live, and I think it's subtle enough that a slight green tint won't make it look like bad breath or anything — and I doubt they'd opt to make the saliva look like bile. Honestly, I hardly noticed the effect; the Werewolf abilities (apart from Hircine's Bounty) are generally very subtle and not colorful.

Either way, I think it's nice to have something to work towards that I can show off in my Werewolf form.

For those of you who are curious, this is the VFX for Ferocious Roar:awjyjyro7vbr.png

I believe the part that will be recolored is the red of the sound waves, rather than the saliva. Thus, I find it hard to imagine this Skill Style will look like "bad breath" or "bile". It could actually look really cool!

After discovering all 5 fragments, here is what Roar, Verdant Green looks like on each morph of Roar (From left to right: unmorphed, Deafening, and Ferocious):
    9kuwp0kky8v5.png

The fragments come from the following sources:
    • Fragment of Hircine — Packleader Sigmund (final boss) in Hircine's Haunt (Craglorn)
    • Fragment of the Bad Man — Giant Snake Mother (the group event boss) in Bad Man's Hallows (Glenumbra)
    • Fragment of the Wolf-Father — Garach Wolf-Father (world boss) at Lakewatch Tower (Bangkorai)
    • Fragment of the Crucible — The Lava Queen (final boss) in The Blessed Crucible (4-man dungeon in The Rift)
    • Fragment of the Ascendant — Vykosa the Ascendant (final boss) in Moon Hunter Keep (Wolfhunter DLC dungeon in Reaper's March)

I have unlocked it, but the weird thing is that every-time I login, it says:
"Skill Styles has been updated with the Roar, Verdant Green collectible."
    AqVQnHS.jpeg
    aOMTAlM.jpeg
    XGKUdBT.jpeg
    CZzaN9O.jpeg

It happens EVERY TIME I login into the game. I am not sure if this is a UI bug, or the game tries to re-add something I already have in my collectibles. It does not matter on what character I login. The 1st time I login into the game I have this notification. Add-ons do not seem to affect this, as even without add-ons it still shows up every time. And it is only this skill style.

Does any one experience same thing, or is it just me ?

That's evidently a UI bug. It happens for all six of the new Skill Styles and the new Hroldan Hammer custom action as well.

I've submitted it as a /bug, and I know others have as well. Hopefully it'll be fixed in an incremental.

We chatted with the team yesterday and there is a bug in for this notification issue happening with some skills and collectibles. The team is working on a fix now and we'll update when a fix is set.
