Is there any reason to wear light armor anymore?

Relating to armour, I very much hope the developers try to shake off this mag or stam supremacy in solo vs coordinated, and simply allow for all damage dealer classes, mag or stam, to benefit similarly in power from either light or medium, so that both may be used say 6-1 or even 7 pieces, in different builds, from solo arenas to HM trials.

Right now both light and medium armors are viable for DDs, especially in solo content, dungeons and in majority of trial groups, including HMs. If you want to wear light armor, you just need to keep in mind to provide crit damage from somewhere else (Class passives, CPs, Order's Wrath, Back-Alley Gourmand etc.), but it's definitely usable. The opposite goes for medium armor. You need to provide penetration from other sources. Both are viable and I don't really see why someone couldn't use either weight class on any content they want. There are so many ways in ESO to compensate for the missing pieces in your build, you just need to know where to look and what to look for.

Even in quite a large number of trial HM groups it would be viable to run light armor, because people's uptimes on penetration debuffs vary greatly from player to player and from fight to fight.

The strongest DK damage setup is using 3 light pieces (Runecarver's Blaze) despite not needing the penetration, because the set's damage offsets the slight damage loss from wearing light armor even when overcapping penetration.

At the end of the day one type will always be better than the other no matter what, and in that case more organized groups will be using that one. The only way to get around that is to completely get rid of the differences between the armor classes, which would be huge mess that at the end of the day would accomplice very little. Everyone would have to get used to the whole new system, all current sets would have to be changed, builds would have to be redone, all for what? To fix a slight imbalance between the armor weights at the very highest level?

Damage and crit damage is better than, in most cases, crit rate and penetration. You can hit the penetration cap without much if any light armor, and you can get to good crit rate without any light armor. The only reason to use it with its current setup is if you're struggling with sustain on a magicka build, or if your specific build can only be done with light armor and it outpaces medium armor alternatives (none that I can think of in the current meta).

Imo, they need to split up crit rate, penetration, damage, and crit damage and distribute them more evenly. Crit damage and damage is really strong together, but crit damage and crit rate synergises too well, even if it would be slightly more balanced.

No, and with Hybridization the way it is it will never be again. Look at Arcanist. That char doesnt even have a Magicka/Stamina-Setup anymore. Its just DPS.

YES it does. I made a MAGICKA Arcanist and then I made a STAMINA Arcanist both damage dealers.

Yes the magicka Arcanist uses runeblades as a crux spam with cephalon as a debuff. Yes this play style works and is mildly enjoyable

And YES for some BIZZARE reason, the developers decided to morph and scale the abilities and make tentacular dread consume crux (when beam needs to, what???? Does even give you one crux when u use it according to inspired scholarship condition).

Which… YES… has basically resulted in Stamina Arcanist making poor beautiful magicka Arcanist with beautiful runeblades…. REDUNDANT! Because even in dungeon content, my stamarc has enough pen to put dps my mag

I am sorry but RUNEBLADES NEEDS A BUFF!! Please it’s so much nicer than stupid calamari flail

Rant over. Please developers, you know I am correct. It’s only fair to make sure there is a mag and stam for every class that’s viable and fun

You can play magicka arcanist and pretty much do identical damage to stamina, you just have to use the exact same skills, meaning your "spammable" is going to cost stamina... It's still bad and very boring design in my opinion, but mag arcanist isn't bad.

I feel like runeblades could be a pretty competitive alternative now that flail is getting a nerf. It still wont likely be better but at least it's going to be closer. Runeblades could use a bit of a buff, but considering how dominant arcanist is right now, I don't see them buffing the class any time soon.

I like at least wearing 2 pieces of heavy on any character regardless of role.

If you lack crit chance and pen go light. If you lack weapon dmg and crit dmg go medium. I find 1 heavy, 1-3 light with the rest medium is a good mix of gear for content.
