I'm guessing we're getting a hint of the first wave of Crown Store styles...

Incidentally, if anyone wants a list of which skills now have the icon:

    DK:
    • Lava Whip
    • Fiery Breath
    • Spiked Armor
    Warden:
    • Scorch
    • Fungal Growth
    • Arctic Wind
    Arcanist:
    • Runeblades
    • Fatecarver
    • Runemend
    Necromancer:
    • Frozen Colossus
    • Sacrificial Bones
    • Death Scythe
    Nightblade:
    • Death Stroke
    • Veiled Strike
    • Assassin's Blade
    Templar:
    • Puncturing Sweep
    • Backlash
    • Rushed Ceremony
    Sorcerer:
    • Crystal Shard
    • Daedric Curse
    • Summon Winged Twilight
    • Lightning Form

Also can't help but notice a few other skills that have the Styling icon now and nothing in the menu:
    • Two Handed - Critical Charge
    • One Hand and Shield - Puncture
    • Bow - Volley
    • Psijic Order - Undo
    • Psijic Order - Accelerate

I hope the scorch one is non vvardenfell themed and not just a recolor

I think all of them have been recolors so far. I would love different creatures for stuff like Scorch, Bear, Sorc Scamp/Twilight, etc but I guess those would also require new animations and thus more work.

Guess if it’s a crown store thing that just depends on how much money they want to make. I’m willing to bet anything that swaps warden skills to be less vvardenfell focused would sell quite well.

jesus i hope not. that is so unforgivable if all that is on the crown store.

I mean, I feel like class skill styles have to be more than just recolors right? Like, Weapon/world skills it makes sense to change the colors so they can blend into different themes better but with class skills just changing their color would looks weird unless it changed the colors of ALL of your class skills, since you'd just end up with a mismatch of your old colors and your new ones. Arcanist would be especially egregious, since even if you could change all of your ability colors you'd still be stuck with the green crux spinning around you.... Unless maybe they had a way to tie crux color to runeblades color?

I hope it's red or orange fiery breath, because I need so much for my stamdk. I will be dissapointed if it will be purple, blue or something completely off with class colors.

It would be cool if blastbones changed to a drunk zombie pirate or something.

I could totally see warden skills being styled so that they aren't so thematically morrowind - eg. a bed of flowers instead of a bed of mushrooms, an eagle instead of a cliffracer, etc.

I think the first batch of Class Skill Styles will be simple recolors of class skills away from their standard color. We've yet to see anything complex like remodels being done with this system, but that's not to say that it won't happen somewhere down the line.

I think a few basic VFX recolors would be a good starting point.

Will the skill style bring back the time based scaling for blastbones? If not I'm not interested.

I agree but I think they might simply be saving it for future updates.
And I am absolutely certain it’s just recolours

Why should the Class Skill Styles be free for everyone?

I think Class Skill Styles are the perfect opportunity to begin monetizing the system because those skills are so popular with players.

Upon further consideration, I'm hoping that at some point we get skill styles for nightblade that allow us to change all of the assets used by nightblade's spectral weapons from the red ones they have by default to specifically the gloambound weapon models because a nightblade just cycling through an arsenal of bound weapons actually sounds kind of cool and it would allow them to have optional in universe consistency by allowing use of proper bound weapons instead of the weird red ones they have by default.

In theory you could extend this to templar's spear line, necro scythe and bound armaments for sorcerers too. Give templars blue animations and the staff (or a mix of GS and staff based on the skill if animations can be changed for things like jabs/sweeps), necros gs/2h axe, and just make the knives for bound armaments the proper bound dagger asset.

My guess would be that some of us fed up with everything being sold to us via micro-giga-transactions while it's not a free to play game with a sub and hard cash expansion costing like a new game. Too many monetisation and not much content produced from those.

I see. I don't feel the same way about the situation, but I respect that others may feel differently.

I think Class Skill Styles on some of the most popular Class abilities sounds like an obvious pick for monetization. They might come out around the same time as Update 43, which introduces new Skill Styles which are earnable via content.

Maybe ZOS intends to strike a balance between the number of monetized Skill Styles in the Crown Store and the number of earnable Skill Styles in-game (some of which require DLC to unlock)?
