Interesting. This morning I launched tha game and played normally on it. After exiting the game I also got a launcher popup message telling me that the latest update failed and I should run a repair.

I also use it on my local account and not as administrator (which I won't).

It appears Norton is pulling the trigger early on this high level alert. If ZOS recommends it, all we need to do is whitelist the ESO launcher in Norton’s firewall feature until a more elegant solution is available.

After updating the launcher last night I can't even get it to work at all, I receive a "Timeout waiting for window to load. Please try to restart the launcher" message, have yet to find a fix for this. I even disabled ESET in everyway possible, still won't launch.

Alot of MS programs and updates run in admin mode, else they won't install.Local mode jsut means you don't login to MS with an email/password.I use local account and still install things admin, cause it jsut means system level, not logging into a email or anything, incase you weren't sure.

That's pretty much the same notification that I got from Norton. I still followed the instructions from @ZOS_Kevin and sent him a DM, but haven't gotten a response back yet. DM sent on 6/26 at approximately this time (h1900 PDT).

I got the virus alert from Norton just now when my launcher updated. Sent the log file as requested.

That's the same Norton error I got last night.
I am still able to play the game.

This evening the game was having weird lag spikes.
I noticed slowness on everything from the net after I quit the game and did some testing..
I talked to my ISP and they show a near 100% network saturation coming from: 23.57.109.142
When I exit the launcher the slowness goes away.
When I restart it the slowness returns.

This is what I see when the launcher is running.
It goes away when the launcher is not running.

    q78l3yrga0wd.png

Notice the: a23.219.38.8 at the beginning of the address.
Before I stopped and restarted the launcher that number was: a23.57.109.142 which is also the address that was flooding to me.

    I hope this helps.

Someone clarify please. It keeps coming up. I hit no now. When I hit yes, it changed my browser set up and I uninstalled 2 things.

    What is this?

I had the same thing happen to me, using Norton.

Norton is the real virus in your system! Delete it at once, use Windows Defender. And no, this is not a joke, Norton is a virus! Uninstall it now!

The problem here is using the virus called Norton Antivirus. That's it! If you are using windows, use Windows Defender, that is the best Antivirus in the market and it comes free with Windows. Norton has been a virus and a malware since the emergence of Cryptocurrencies, and it has gone worse with AI injection, uninstall it at once.

Norton aside, whether it's bad or not, that's not my problem here.
Norton flagging that file only adds to the mystery of my issue since this happened at Launcher update.

Since the launcher patch the Launcher has a perma connection to Bethesda that takes almost 100% of my ISP download bandwidth. Upload is not affected.
When I shut down the Launcher that connection drops.
When I run the Launcher that connection is reestablished.
So I log into the game and make sure the launcher is shut down.

Technically, Windows has been a virus and spyware since it was developed.
I don't trust it or Windows defender because Micro$oft can't be trusted.
Windows is infused with AI also.
    Sadly, AI is poisoning everything.

after trying to restore the file from Norton's quarantine that didn't work then I set the launcher file to trusted still didn't work so then I had to re-install just the launcher. To do this I renamed my old launcher file to 'launcher old' then went on to my ESO account page and selected reinstall the game told it to go in the exact folder where it was before it saw the game was already there and just reinstalled the launcher and it works now.

Norton has terrible detection rate of real malware and virus while having a very high fake detection rate. Just do your research.

That's because your Norton is constantly blocking its connection and download and it is reestablishing connection and restarting the download.

Wrong on many accounts. If you had done your research, you would know that until windows 8, microsoft had little to no services that constantly connected to microsoft server. Microsoft first started constant connection with Vista, and with windows ten they made it horrendous, making us connect to 3rd party ad services all the time.

Windows Defender has the highest detection rate of malware and virus while having the lowest false detection. Not my words, words of security experts.

Yes, windows 11 is going to have AI update which will spy on people. Use Linux.

Yeah so i'm not using Norton & am still dealing with this issue, please don't turn many of us trying to get our game or launcher working into an software debate.

Ok so Everytime I open the launcher is gives me this pop up, to allow whatever this is to make changes to my computer. I have never seen this, nor should it be happening. I hit NO and the pop up closed. Then I was left with the launcher and able to hit play and log in with no issue. Please let me know if this is being corrected or what I need to do on my end to make this stop. Thanks!

    I got this as well.

On quitting the game, I got an error message that the game needed to be repaired. So I did a repair, but it happened again. Very odd.

this is literally a file necessary for MANY games and software, not just ESO. Some other necessary components for other games can include things like .net framework, directX(which is also used here) and others. It's no big deal to worry about it, this is required to keep the launcher and game running properly.

Also going to echo what people say above... Don't use Norton... Windows built in virus defender is better than 90% of the AVs y'all have listed here.... BitDefender is a good one, but a lot of no name & Norton ones? those have lots of false positives/won't catch real viruses and you're better off using Windows 11 built in AV.

    I agree with Wolf_Punk.
This annoying issue is not about software loves and hates debates.

I can avoid my annoying lag and stuff issues by making sure the Launcher is not running.
    - Log into ESO.
    - Make sure the Bethesda Launcher is NOT running.
    - enjoy the lack of connection congestion issues.

I suggest other people having weirdness try this.
    It can't hurt.
