Giant monsters in Cyrodiil

IMHO, a fun future update for Cyrodiil would be to allow powerful monsters to occasionally wreak havoc in a few areas.

Imagine a dragon, a lot more powerful than anywhere else in the game taking interest in the emperor and deciding to claim one of the keeps as it's lair. If the castle isn't defended by players, it is quickly lost to the dragon via it's claws ripping down doors, and breath knocking down walls. The NPC guards by themselves don't stand a chance.
It will defend it's new lair, and other critters appear as well to make the castle a new home. Instead of guards, tough monsters appear in their place.

I can see some epic battles taking place against it. The brave trying to go right up next to it too fight. Those not as tanky using ballista's and catapults.
Perhaps it attacks a castle already under siege, and the fun chaos that ensues.

Besides dragons, I could see a wave of giants attacking. And like the dragon, they will make the keep their new home.

Perhaps an evil necromancer also could join the fun. It revives the corpses of the dead guards to fight.

You get the idea.
Basically it would add a lot of new strategies and life to Cyrodiil. A 4th side to fight against everyone, usually picking on the current winning side but not always. The environment of Cyrodiil fights back. It's EvP!

I really realy really really admire your enthusiasm for change-possibility. I'm at the point I'm down for any sort of new content - even if it ends up being nothing more than proof that ZOS hasn't completely abandoned PVP in this game.

Edited because I forgot to say:

Interesting. Could be a fun event. I wonder if something like this could be used to improve PVP too.

Spin up a monster PVE instance and start testing variables. Does it slow down with 20 monsters? What if the front doors of the delves were replaced with rubble? What if the mile gates were changed to load screens? Is Cyrodill too large to be efficient?

Basically use this instance to test everything except for pvp and maybe there's something they could identify and fix that could improve pvp performance.

I'm not a programmer but feel bad for pvp players so a cool event for pve players borrowing Cyrodill + digging into possible reasons for pvp lag could be a win-win (only could since if the problem is the pvp programming itself, then pvp players are still out of luck).

I think an alternative take on this rather intriguing idea is to have boss tier imperial legion NPC armies with siege attacking keeps and patrolling the areas they "control" closer to the IC to really add another layer to the faction war because the empire is still technically in play, just severely weakened canonically. Could provide some really interesting gameplay having 3 factions fighting over a keep none of them actually control whilst essentially doing vet dungeon/trial content in a PvP setting.

Could see a 30-50 NPC sized force with siege spawning near IC and going to and fro taking keeps that have lax defenders. It would also add to the campaigns that have typically low populations by providing that siege battle content even when player numbers are low.

A giant enemy randomly appearing sounds like the sort of feature you'd encounter in the Imperial City. Rather than making a giant enemy for players to fight, why not make one of the players themselves become this big threat? After all, that's similar to what Volendrung does, and so maybe Cyrodiil could use more artifacts like these?

Or, you know... maybe it'd be fun to have Arc 10+ Marauder Gothmau unleashed into Cyrodiil just because. I wonder what kind of chaos would ensue?

No where did I state it was PVP.
Yet, in Cyrodiil we have Player vs. door.
    Player vs. guards.
    Player vs delve monsters...

Where is the challenge in any of those?
If you want more people to try out PVP and stay, perhaps some more content is needed, no?
Nothing I or others have suggested is taking away the PVP aspect.

Personally I think it will make PVP much more interesting. Imagine in the middle of a 3 way siege, a powerful necro resurrecting the dead. You can't tell me that wouldn't make things more intense and all three sides would have to vary tactics based upon what the PVE is adding to the PVP fight.

Like Erickson9610 says, perhaps more artifacts are needed. Perhaps one new artifact could double the power of any guards near you by a factor of 3. Both in offense and defense. They would hit harder, much to the surprise of the attackers.

    So give us your best...
Or don't, you think nothing should change.

I'm not a PvP player, and rarely enter into Cyrodiil, but from previous threads in this forum, I understood that the single biggest thing PvP needed is a **major** performance boost. Plus player vs dragon isn't PvP, as already mentioned above.

Before any changes like this can be made ZOS will have to invest in more server capacity. They won't even do that to bring back a higher population cap, so don't hold your breath on any kinds of other improvements.

I’d be on board with having some wandering World Bosses in Cyrodiil. I wouldn’t do a Dragon though, I’d do Coldharbour-themed Daedra, Worm Cultists etc.

Many years ago Cyrodiil was a beautiful place with a promising future. The mightiest warriors of all the realms came together to fight each other in glorious battles, day and night. Everyone had big plans.

But the people who financed this war didn't like how much gold and resources they had to invest in this venture. And they already had their eyes on easier sources of income: real estate and casinos. So they stopped paying their armies and left them to die.

The few commanders who didn't leave immediately had to put all their awesome plans on hold. They tried to find ways to keep the war going with the little resources they had left. So all deer in Cyrodiil were "escorted to greener pastures" in an effort to feed the troops. It wasn't enough. So they ate all the torchbugs too. But without the deer and torchbugs keeping the natural balance, Cyrodiil was doomed. Nasty bugs and diseases have been plaguing Cyrodiil ever since. To keep the bugs and diseases from spreading, it was forbidden to form groups larger than 12. It didn't help at all. After realizing what was going on, most warriors quickly left Cyrodiil to fight other wars in other realms again.

Now Cyrodiil is empty most of the time. Just a few poor souls are still fighting each other for a few hours a day when the sun goes down. Waiting for reinforcements that will never come.

    But nature is coming.

All deer and torchbugs have risen from the dead. Changed and strengthened by some unholy ritual they are waiting for a chance to take back their lands and eat our brains. They already started breaking our horses' legs when everyone is asleep. So when they finally start their big attack on Cyrodiil, everyone will have to walk from keep to keep, constantly coming too late to already lost fights, with a broken spirit and no stamina left...

It's not a bad idea, to be honest ... I think it's odd that flying dragons bounce off of invisible walls that are lines on a map, anyways...... maybe once in a while, have one that flies over any one of the other lands.... etc.

Cyrodiil does need some performance improvements, before this would be implemented.... but imagine if a random world boss was replaced by a marauding dragon.....

Start with announcements in chat "A dragon is being reported flying over X region..... and then after 20 minutes, have it land, and do a random fight.... have it take an area... etc. Bonus points if the area takes a week to rebuild, after... and maybe do this every 2 to 4 weeks..... kind of like a mini 1 day event.

I love the idea of having a PvE equivalent version of Cyrodiilic war, solo or up to 4-person group fighting battallions of Imperial Legions and Daedra. But obviously PvP'ers will still want new content, so if there was a new Realm of oblivion that was the new PvP zone, same size as cyrodiil--it would be a nice addition.

People could still play Cyrodiil pvp if they wanted, but then PvE players can have new content also related to cyro as OP posted. Big monsters/bosses roaming the lands like The Deadlands.

I think i have an idea thet would be even funnier, random events that allows PvP in PvE zones.

Maybe you are there in Vivec doing your writs and suddenly the zone become full PvP, that would be awesome, imagine the thrill and all the chaos with fights all around you.

This is basically already in IC. Just overwork IC to make it less prone to one faction dominating the others, easier return to base and less rewarding for ganking.

Unfortunately when this was discussed with ZOS about 7 years ago the major issue stopping such kind of developments were lag.

It was specifically mentioned at the time that the IC bosses in the sewers (when they were actually hard) would be fun to have in openworld Cyro and the answer was that it would cause too much lag and strain on the server.

Even the dolmens were disabled to one at a time to try and lower the impact of these events.

I would be OK with this if it were limited to times of low server population. Or if the server detects that there is little to no actual PVP going on. Or keeps/resources/objectives are heavily skewed to one color.

Basically, I would not want it interfering with actual PvP. The days of big PvP fights available 24/7/365 are gone. So I wouldn't want anything to take away from when there is PvP going on.

But to shake up PvDoor? Or shake up a static map? That could be interesting.

Ooh. I like that. Kind of like a wandering world boss like we see in the newer DLC zones.

Sometimes when it spawns it gets pissed and goes to attack your keep.

I dig it! Or maybe I'm just starved for new PVP content.

I have been saying this forever! I wish we had walking bosses in cyro like we do in IC. It doesn't have to be a dragon, but just something fun to do when the map is stale or you don't have enough pop. I don't know, I'd enjoy more bosses. Not trash mobs though, I hate them.
