I Miss Drinking Breda's Bottomless Mug

It doesn't make sense. So many people questioned how to get the exp boost. There's no indication that you do have one.
Why they changed this I don't know.

Just for fun, you can use Breda’s Mug as often as you want. I like the new change because that way I don’t have to remember to use it when the buff expires.

If that's the case, then just make everything instant so you don't have to remember anything... Don't even play the game, just login and be done with everything. ;)

Remember when grabbing your event tickets was as easy as drinking the Cauldron for the Halloween event or eating your cake during Anniversary ones?

We have a solution right in front of us. Instead of going back to +100% XP on activation next year, the Mug could be drank from daily to receive your event tickets.

This way people who don’t enjoy running around doing the same unchanged dailies we’ve been doing for years, don’t feel forced, just for the tickets.

    That's an awesome idea!

They could couple this with the XP-buff lasting for 24h or until the daily reset and almost everyone should be happy with that.

Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. It's not that hard.

It was nice to also use the mug and similar items at the end of the event so you had the buff for a bit longer

This is probably why they made the change. Because players were drinking the mug on all their characters right before the event ended so they would continue to have the buff beyond the event. The way it is now, when the event ends so does the buff.

Wow, I just don’t get some people at all. It’s way better as it is now, I don’t even care that I can’t eke out the buff for a little after an event expires, the convenience of not having to reapply the buff is worth it.

You’ve even hit on the solution yourself - manually use the mug and suspend your disbelief to pretend you’re still getting the buff by drinking it.

Yeah, but I have to ask the big question... "so what?" It's not like the buff lasts for more than a couple hours. Not seeing where this is actually a problem. I think a more likely reason would simply be that people forget to renew it, or don't notice when it goes away.

The buff is not intended to continue past the event. That's reason enough in my opinion.

Besides, players are probably benefitting more this way because they won't forget and miss drinking the mug, and are guaranteed to have the buff for the entire event.

Why they changed this I don't know.

It fits a pattern of removing individual character timers such as riding training and random dungeons. These are all now on a universal timer, which means the servers do not have to keep track of millions of individual timers. It only needs to know “did you do this thing yet this reset period?” A yes/no should be easier to keep track of than a countdown from 72,000 (for riding training and random dungeons), and a universal application of an XP buff could be easier still than a yes/no check on a per-character basis.

They certainly should have added a visual indicator for the new XP buff based on feedback from the Explorer’s and Witches events. Kevin said he passed it along, but it seems they didn’t fit that in for this event.

Doing it this way also (as a byproduct, I believe) fixes a bug and exploit where a buff could be renewed during the wrong festival. I once got caught still with Pelinal’s on several characters during Witches, and using the whistle renewed Pelinal’s rather than replacing it with an XP buff. It couldn’t be removed manually, so I couldn’t get the XP buff I wanted, and I could have gotten double AP for weeks during events when it wasn’t meant to be accessible. Support had to fix it manually for all of my alts.

Nah i don't think so at all. Heck they even extended this event what an additional week this year? That is way more exp then a couple hours. It's imo just a bad decision. Breda's Mug and Keg is what makes Part of this event so Unique and fun. Especially after you finish the daily quests if you choose to do them. People would recall back to Breda and drink out of the Mug and Keg all day. Or use the Tool.

    Have a Happy New Year!

It’s a good suggestion, but in those events there were no daily quests to do, there was no other way to get the tickets.

As one who mains the drunk personality on my main character, this isn't a big deal to me.

What I miss is having motivation to do all of the new life mini-quests every day. They're fun in a silly sort of way, especially when you are doing them with a small group. But there's absolutely no reason for me to do them this cycle. The gold motif isn't particularly good and I have all the other prizes from past new life festivals.

I get that they want new players to have the opportunity to earn old rewards, but they need enough new stuff to keep veteran players engaged as well. This event missed that mark by a long shot.

I'm torn. As someone who has played for a couple of years, I'm glad I am not missing much from the event since I had to be on vacation for a good chunk of it (and could not bring a computer that could run ESO).

But at the same time, it would have been cool if they released new stuff in the Impresario; like maybe as a holiday gift the Impresario has winter themed furnishings that usually can only be gotten in the crown store (kind of like how Witch's festival Impresario has halloween themed furnishings that usually can only be gotten in the crown store). Maybe Imperial and Nord themed furnishings if there is not enough winter furnishings to scrounge up? Or even random something that usually only appears in the housing editor show up for tickets instead.

Not to venture too far off topic, but I feel like motifs/styles as a reward in general has become a bit stale throughout the game. There are some nice style pages to be had but they are so numerous now that they have become similar to the armor set bloat in the game. It's just not very innovative and starting to become rather pointless. It's nice to collect event styles since they are free but I think if the New Life festival boxes had more than just a few alchemy mats, less inventory fodder, and maybe threw in occasional upgrade materials it might be worth farming again. ESO lacks a lot of evergreen rewards that always remain useful. Since the new style only drops once per day many players like me just stop opening them until the next day because of the awkward cooldown. Once you get that first drop then it's like, well, what do I do now?

I wasn't going to reply to this thread because when I do ZOS gives me a warning that I'm being too harsh. But I also don't get how people forget to use a free XP buff. And the way they just make it automatic now without it showing up that it's on is lame to me.

Event tickets are just that, tickets for doing events.

The game has been dumbed down enough in order to meet the demands of those who somehow feel entitled to get all the rewards without doing any of the content, and enough is enough - if you want the event tickets, do the events!

I have to agree. I hoped that this year they at least would add some new lighting furnishings to the reward boxes (they did add new nice Apocrypha furnishings for the boxes for the witches Festival this year). As it is, I simply collect the tickets to finish this year's new motif (just for collection). I do not need the tickets for anything else this event and definitely do not need anything from the reward boxes either.

I agree and that is what made Breda's mug so Special. It is like Eating Cake during the Jubilee Festival for exp. Which would also ruin the event if taken away. Breda's Mug regardless if someone liked it or not kept you engaged and rewarded you with EXP. Now people can skip the whole purpose of an event and just gain exp the whole time. Disappointed in this decision. I will get over it. I love ESO too much not too LOL..

I'm not quite sure how what I wrote is related to making Breda's mug special. I was agreeing with the poster I quote that there is no motivation to do all the event mini-quests since there are no new interesting rewards/items this year. Drinking from the mug would not add any motivation for me.

I was fine with using the mug, and I'm fine without using it.

I think it must depend on when you actually play. On PC EU, I'm playing in prime time (because my morning is around 9 pm for most EU zones) and the tent is PACKED - and has been every day since the event started. On PC NA, it's not so busy (by the time I'm done on EU, it's just midmorning on NA) - I never play on NA in prime time (this is because of a compromise with husband - and no, I'm not going into detail on it here).

But for me at least, there's no real lack of players everywhere on PC EU - and the only reason there aren't quite so many on PC NA is that I'm retired and playing when many people are working in the US.

I also wish that we could have some new quests for this event (and others) - the last update was however many years back when Old Life was added.

I wish they would stop diminishing these events.

The details of the game have been insidiously eroded for years now in the name of "performance." Corners are cut and flavor deleted... things that add immersion and fun are sacrificed. It's a sad state of affairs, but we have no control over it.

Well, you might consider it a QoL, but I considering it removing QoL.

Nothing stopping you from forcing yourself to drink the mug every 2 hours.

In fact, to make it fun, how about if you do not get your mug drink in every 2 hours - say you forget- and you benefit from 2x exp without having drunk your mug, you should penalize yourself, some how, like, perhaps "Send @karthrag_inak gold in game equivalent to the experience you received without having drunk the mug".

    There. QoL all around.

Yeah, being in a daily dungeon constantly looking at that timer and spamming the drink button during a boss battle like a true alcoholic not trying to miss my double XP when ‘activity complete’ shows was sooooooo muuuuuuch fun. /s

Sometimes I even died and left my team mates in the dust because I changed the health potion with the mug so I wouldn’t miss it.

I don’t mind the messages quest. With fast travel to guild mate in the region I can get those usually done in 40 seconds.

I'm pleased with the disconnection of the xp bonus from the mug. I now use the mug at every opportunity - arriving at the tent, leaving the tent, arriving at a wayshrine, starting and completing a quest, saluting the Old Life ghosts, etc.

Using that animation helps to make the whole thing more fun, even when there's no one else around.

I think if you count the minutes I forgot to reactivate that buff manually cost me way more XP than a 2 hour buff after the event would give me.

Maybe they should make it a toggle in options then everyone is happy and if only 10 percent uses it they can shelve it.
