Nope. This is not even remotely true. Maybe it was intended to work that way, but if so, someone dropped the ball.

As several people have noted, we are actually having far better luck with resource nodes than with enemies of any difficulty level.

In two days, I've found two whole parchments, and they each came from Lady's Smock, and like, either a runestone or some kind of ore. Despite killing dozens of delve and dungeon and world bosses.

The first day I found that WBs and the group dungeon bosses dropped reliably and the chest and nodes not so much. Yesterday the WB and Dungeon boss drop rate was 0, but chests and nodes seem to have some. I think I got about 6 over 4 hours. I've had Sharp out the entire time. I'm still leveling him.

And I haven't had a single one drop from trash mobs on either day.

Something is definitely broken with the drop rate.

On day one, my first two characters managed to find enough parchments whilst completing the dailies but I spent around three hours on the third without finding any so I thought there was a cap and moved onto another main. I now keep running around on the luckier characters and pass them to the others to turn in.

Judging by the many comments over multiple threads and in zone chat, there still appears to be a lot of confusion about which quest is used to progress the meter. The quest for Tralise should not have been included as many players think this is needed for the music box and are losing their vote. Whilst I would prefer the tome, I do feel bad for #TeamMusicBox and will be popping some votes their way.

Oh guys. They don't wanna give us the house is why. Make it take so long we can't get the house. Then make us buy it in a year or two for crowns.
The house is just a lure we won't get anything

    Oh, stop.

    We will get the house.
They wouldn't dangle it in front of us and then make it impossible to achieve. That would be a PR nightmare for them.
We have always achieved the top-tier reward in these community events.

The pages come very easily with a little effort. They drop from nearly everything.
I don't know why some people are supposedly having bad luck, other than RNG is fickle, but that is certainly not the case for everyone.

ALL resource nodes can drop them, regular chests, treasure map chests, thieves troves, backpacks, all tiers of enemies (not just bosses; I've gotten a couple from regular mobs, and crocodiles)...

The only things I personally haven't found them in so far are crates, barrels, sacks, and heavy sacks.
I don't know if they can drop from fishing; I haven't tried that.

I haven't found any except as boss drops with about an hour in Necrom looting multiple nodes and mobs. Your luck seems to be fine, but many other people not so much. I don't think its just fickle rng but IDK what is going on with it.

I do not think the problem is on the drop rate, but on the other drop conditions. It is an event item, so it is only meant to drop during the event, so there is code involved with checking if the item can drop at all. And something in this code is not working as it should, making the drops not happen as they should for some characters or account.

Yesterday I got 79 parchments. This morning I got only a few, doing exactly the same as yesterday. I logged out of the game, logged in again, and got 71 parchments in 2,5 hours. I didn’ t get any from enemies, only from nodes and chests. I had 6 of them within a minute, from a treasure chest and double drops from some nodes nearby.

The RNG is definitely patchy. I did not get any parchments for an hour yesterday despite looting large numbers of nodes, but after that they dropped at a steady rate.

But... the entire point of this post is that they are NOT dropping easily for many players. It's an issue. The first two days of the event, I did over 60 bosses without a parchment dropping.

I continue to have certain characters who can't get any parchments at all after an hour or more of running around Necrom farming, doing seekers, wb's, killing every mob, going into the public dungeons, etc. I have one character who gets a ton of them from farming and he has been supplying the rest. Several more can get them occasionally (the drop rate from bosses seems to have improved since Friday), but with absolutely nowhere near the frequency that some have described.

I can't believe behavior like that was intended - I agree with those who suggest that there is an error in the code for the event drops. And if this *is* intended, I would suggest relying less on RNG and adding in guaranteed sources for similar items in future events - having such a variable experience for different players trying to participate in a community event (right? I mean we're not talking about some rare valuable drop here) is not a recipe for enjoyment for the players who get the short end of the RNG stick.

      [EDIT for typo].

This ^ I've run the trial twice, and both times I dropped around 9-10 pages, which was nice. I also got a few from farming nodes, but this took a while. On an related note: if you are playing with an alt, make sure you have the quest picked up so that you can keep gathering pages on that character.

The drop rates on the Esoteric Parchments are highly variable, but I haven't had any trouble getting 5 a day in a reasonably short time.

On day 1, they were dropping like crazy for me in the Telvanni Peninsula, much more frequently than the purple event coffers.

On day 2, the dailies had me going to Apocrypha and the parchments didn't seem to be dropping there at all for me, which had me wondering if maybe they don't drop in Apocrypha-- but then I did find 1 or 2 there.

On day 3, the dailies had me going to Apocrypha again, but this time the parchments were dropping more readily there for me. They were also dropping steadily in the Telvanni Peninsula for me; I got 2 in a row from harvesting 2 different resource nodes mere moments apart, so there seems to be no cooldown at all on the parchments, just RNG unpredictability.

If you're struggling to find them, just call out in zone chat and ask if anyone has any to spare. Personally, I would NOT pay for them, since they're so easy (for me) to get; but if you feel better paying someone for having done the work for you, then make sure you aren't being overcharged for them, because I've seen some pretty outrageous (in my opinion) prices for them.

No WBs or dungeon bosses are dropping any event stuff for me. Not a single coffer or parchment.

I am getting them from chests and nodes, and the very occasional trash mob drop but that's it. I'm still not getting enough to do more than 2 toon a day, if that.

the event daily tracks your daily participation for the event and can award style pages. It does not award the Golden coffer for your first daily turn in. My guess is that the tickets and golden coffer are account wide, whereas the event quest and subsequent daily are per character. He does reward an epic Telvanni secrets coffer as well as a chance at those style pages that the tickets can buy, but only once per day per character. The daily jobs award the golden coffer and tickets for your 1st turn in. After that then they drop one epic coffer and double necrom coffers. Coffers have a chance to contain parchments. Most frequent drop I've found was farming WB Corlys the Chainbreaker. Yeah theres the minimum wait time between spawns but i got parchments too many times in a row at that boss that its worth it. Sometimes he'll respawn before I'm done selling my loot to my cat.

I'm not saying it's not an issue.
But if what you're doing isn't working, try something different.

While they DO drop from enemies, I've been getting very few (fewer than ten so far) Parchments from enemies in comparison to other means.
So I've been focusing the majority of my farming on the other things that drop them (resource nodes, chests, and thieves troves, mainly), and I've been amassing them quite steadily.
With occasional dry spots, but I've collected over 100 total so far, only playing an hour here and there (plus the daily two-hour session with my partner, and she's collected more than I have), across six of my 20 characters.

      EDIT:

Kevin has stated that they are going to put up a feedback thread for the event after the event has ended.

Obviously, the drop-rate for enemies needs to be a part of that discussion.

But in the meantime, if you want the Parchments, try shifting your focus more toward the other things from which they drop.

yeah harvesting or opening chests is definitely the best way to go, i can usually get 5 almost without trying

the ones from enemies are very very few, ive only gotten a few drops this way, usually from WB, or the end loot of a bastion nymic

i was talking to someone in one of my guilds who said they had almost 300 parchments from farming material nodes lol

even using 5 every day, they have about 250 more parchments than needed lol

There should be far better percentages for rare occurrences. In fact, things like master treasure chests and three-gem difficulty bosses should have 100% drop rate.

This event daily is draining my will to play ESO. I'm on the verge of saying, keep that silly house. I come to ESO to escape the grind, not take up a new one. Ugh, I say. Verily, ugh.

Yeah, from just picking nodes between daily quest locations, I am at around 100 parchments (including the 25 that I have already spent). So, daily, the quest completion involves me walking out Necrom front gate, accepting the quest, combining pages, and turning the quest in, before running off to do the dailies.

After having a dismal first day of the event, with no drops from anything that I tried, I've had much better luck since. My best source, by far, has been resource nodes. I hardly ever get them from bosses or random mobs. I've found a few in treasure chests, too. It definitely seems to be an odder distribution than I've seen in former events.

Everyone else seems to have noticed this, so now it's a race for resource nodes. So the event for me has turned into this: three accounts I'm doing it on. Sign in, pick up WB quest in Necrom and go fight WB assigned. Plenty of people around, so easy fights. Turn in and get daily tickets.

Turn in daily esoteric parchments or whatever they're called and run around hitting nodes to find 5 more for tomorrow. Do an endeavor or two if it won't take much time. Sign out, switch accounts and repeat.

I'm voting for the book. because books are life.

"Turn the Page" is daily, yes, but it isn't a required part of the event itself. That is, it doesn't have anything to do with earning your daily event tickets and daily golden event coffer.

Rather, it is part of the "community challenge" which determines how many of the free rewards we'll receive after the event is over, as well as which additional reward (tome or music box) we'll receive.

I don't think crafting surveys have ever dropped event-related stuff (event coffers and, in this case, Esoteric Parchments), nor have they ever given "double-draw" drops during an event. You'll need to harvest normal, everyday resource nodes for that.

Yeah, I guess I was specifically talking about participating in moving the meter, as they themselves refer to it as the "event-specific daily quest" on their event page. But point taken, I'll still grab tickets here and there. My fault.

That's disappointing about survey nodes, but makes sense, thanks for the heads up. Still, I did a few regular nodes, as they happened to be nearby; nada.

I've had slightly better luck with this since the first couple of days. Pulled in 2-5 parchments each day. Enough for me to feel like I'm contributing.

I've had trouble finding these, too. If they really drop from anything then by the time I've done the 3 Necrom dailies, and walked from objective to objective picking up all the nodes and chests along the way, I should have 5 or more, but that's not been the case.

One tip we shared in another thread, more difficult enemies increase your chance of dropping esoteric parchments.

I can confirm the observation and also add that I've noticed that esoteric parchment drops are more generous during player activity troughs and fall off as more and more players begin to farm them. This is suggestive of loot pool mechanics where there are only so many esoteric parchment available across a set period or a pool of esoteric parchment feeding into the loot drops and fed by a set recharge rate.

In this case, the implementation of a parchment loot pool would cause an ebb and flow of parchment in relation to player activity on the Telvanni Peninsula (which I've been able to observe because I log in at all hours. Literally.) ... and this ebb and flow would completely cancel, if not reverse, any probability buff added to beasties of increasing difficulty because; as player activity ramps up, you get more hunting from the combat-oriented participants and by the time you can get a group together to kill a seeker or a boss, the parchment pool is empty.

And, by the time you've rounded up a group and done Bastion Nymic for your tickets, likewise most others and Telvanni Peninsula activity tapers off because once the big bad dungeon is done, there are no more rewards and you're going to be seeing a lot of the place so it's back to your other dailies or, if they're done you do something you like or if you're out of time log off and come back tomorrow. That's about when the parchment pool starts to fill and parchment drops pick up ahead of the bulk of the logins from the next timezone to roll in.

The thing to remember, here, is that I don't have enough observations to rule out confirmation bias so maybe I'm seeing a pattern only because I happened to notice someone observing something that fits observations of my own (which may well stand out more to me simply because they're familiar). Good random number generation often mimics recognisable sequences associated with processes such as the one I described above and what happens is that the unfamiliar flies quietly under the radar and isn't noticed nearly as much as a sequence with a strong association or familiarity to it. So, bear in mind, I'm just talking about something that I'm noticing when I see it and I may well be missing something equally important, here.

        That said....

What people forget about MMOs (and this is not just players but often developers as well) is the impact which time of day has on a game due to a combination of active timezone populations and how many people are logged in and how ping times dictate choice of megaserver in each culture/locale. Something else to remember is that the internet is bottlenecked where there is a lack of redundancy in trunklines and trunkline distribution. One big turbidite flow in the wrong place could pretty much shatter the internet into national and regional intranets...and these bottlenecks are strongly indicated by ping geography. It's worth noting this because ping dictates the predominant choice of megaserver in a given locale and this also makes the question of megaserver location a very interesting aspect of megaserver population dynamics and behaviour.

Things like this dictate, to a large degree, the frequency and approximate timing of loot drop peaks in gaming systems which use a loot pool as well as population behaviours which are not only impacted by culture but also by temperament via activities which appeal to the emphasized emotional needs of a given temperament. So you'll see, for example, varying awareness of time (with respect to patterns of behavioural variation, activity levels, and downstream impact on loot pool dynamics, where present); depending on whether a player subpopulation is competition focused, creativity focussed, harvesting focussed, hunting focussed, challenge focussed, exploration focussed, cooperation focussed and there's probably one more I've forgotten given the common denominator for the Yensa vs Tralise split (round numbers swinging either side of a 625:375 ratio).

Anyways, I'm rambling because your observations are relevant to some interests of mine and, well, if it's interesting, it's gotta be worth a ramble!

It's simple, this daily is impossible to complete, as of the time I am writing this I have spent almost 2 hours in necrom
        -killing WBs
        -Stealing stuff
        -Looting nodes
        -Looting chests
        -Doing treasuremaps
        -Doing Nymics
        -Killing mobs
        -Fishing
        -Doing daily quests

and so far I have found ZERO esoteric parchments, while true, ~2 hours isn't that long to farm in the grand scheme of things, you do have to remember, these aint some special rare drop, they are meant to be collectables for a DAILY EVENT QUEST, the fact that it takes more than 20 mins at the absloute most means that clearly something is broken

@ZOS_Kevin can you poke the dev team and get them to fix this so we can actually take part in the event's global mechanic?

You must make sure you flag the quest, BOTH might help as well. I saw not one page until I did.
