Update 40 conversion 1 to1?

I am assuming that when update 40 hits if I have say 100 gold jewelry grains in my bag that they will be converted to 100 gold jewelry platings?

Won’t that totally destroy the market on chromium plating?

Yes, the market will be affected, but not because of the conversion, but by the need for ~80% less gold materials needed to upgrade jewelry.

The conversion will leave you with exactly the same proportion of plating to the market as you proportionately have now with platings/grains. However people will need much less materials in order to upgrade, so the material's relative value and rarity will go down.

Yes and yes. Prices are already plummeting for platings and grains. If you want to make some gold, now is the time to sell because plating prices will end up between rosin and tempers when u40 drops.

    1 Grain = 1 new plating
    1 Plating = 10 new plating
Upgrade rate will probably go back up from 4 to 8.

On the stream they mentioned that "old" Jewellery Grains will be re-named into "Legendary". Old Chromium Grain -> Legendary Chromium Grain etc. As soon as you loot it (place it into your inventory from your bank), item will be converted into "new" upgrade material.

    Example:
1 Chromium Grain -> renamed to 1 Legendary Chromium Grain -> converted into regular 1 Chromium Plating.
1 Chromium Plating - > renamed to 1 Legendary Chromium Plating -> converted into 10 Chromium Platings.

So, if you have 10 Chromium Platings - those will be converted to 100 Chromium Platings, since it took 10 1 Chromium Grains to get one.

On the other hand you will need 8 Chromium Plating to fully upgrade jewellery, just like with other crafting skills.

You'll need 80% less for an upgrade, but 80% more people will be able to afford to upgrade in the first place, compared to the tiny percentage who bother now.

Thank God. As a solo player that bought Summerset at release, I have not upgraded a single piece of jewelry to gold. I have 4 chromium grains after all these years.

Do crafting dailies. Farm mobs of baddies. Loot. Get gold and equipment. Deconstruct the equipment. Your crafting skills go up. Crafting dailies give you heaps of mats. I got 2 Chromium grains in a single crafting daily quest turn-in the other day.

But it's not 80% less, they said upgrading will be changed to be inline with other crafts so you will need 8 chromium platings to upgrade at maxed out jewellry.

Or are you referring to something else with the "80% less gold materials"?

To upgrade, you currently you need 4 u39 platings (equivalent to 40 u39 grains)
Conversion happens and you now have 40 u40 platings
After patch to upgrade you need 8 u40 platings (equivalent to 8 u39 grains)
    An 80% reduction from 40 to 8.

    Greetings,

After further review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic, as it's crafting related.

    Thank you for your understanding

That's the thing, we don't know if the drop rate will be affected at all, but if it won't then it makes no difference when you refine, you'll end up with just as many of the new platings.

On the other hand, the value of master writs will probably be lower, so you should do as many as you can before the change.

I'm guessing they'll leave existing master writs as they are (hopefully this will be confirmed tomorrow) because that's what they've done in the past, so you should maybe just collect as many as you can before the change and do them after

Khajiit would gladly buy -all- your chromium platings right now for ... 5x the avg price of tempers a piece (say 120k).

It will be expensive, but this one cares about the well-being of his ESO friends and community

Supply of new (converted) platings will increase 10 times, demand of them will increase 2 times. So in theory new (converted) chromium plating should cost 5 times less than old (not converted) one. Question is why people started to sell old (not converted) platings for less money? Shouldn't they be selling for 2x of old price with expectation of U40? Imo it's panic driven by lack of information or logic. They are destroying the market and their wealth by their own hands.

Great, I destroyed all of them a couple of weeks ago (due to inventory problems).

On the future pricing, I expect the price to drop, not increase.

This is correct. According to PTS patch notes, the new master writs will give fewer vouchers, but the old ones will remain unchanged, so now is the time to gather as many as possible.

Seriously, I foresee 2 months of jewelry crafting writs in my future on all 18 characters for those sweet gold writs.

Oh, wow, why haven't you got more than 4 in all these years? I upgrade all of my equipped jewelry to legendary if it's on a L50 CP160+ character. I must get Chromium grains pretty regularly from various types of rewards, although I've never stopped to figure out how much and from where. Daily Jewelry writs, check. Tales of Tribute rewards, check. But I think some may have come from various event reward coffers as well.

Firstly, we’re doing away with those pesky jewel crafting grains. Existing jewelry crafting plating will be converted into 10 platings and every jewelry crafting grain will become a plating. No more need to collect grains, refine them into plating to then improve your rings and amulets!
