Game Settings Resetting Back to Defaults

Merican_Hunter
Hey, I've been getting a strange bug the past week, regards to all my in game and addon settings returning to defaults. I am on PC NA and this will happen completely at random upon opening up Eso.

Step by step this is what transpires whenever my settings have been reset at random. I will open up Eso, and the first thing that pops up on my screen is a message saying something along the lines of 'accessibility is enabled by default on gamepad mode', and then I have an option to proceed with it on or off essentially (I do play on gamepad mode but do not use accessibility). Next, I'm pretty sure that I'm asked to pick my server region (I play on PC NA). At some point it also asks me to select my actual country etc. as if I just started up the game for the first time. One of the other things it makes me do every time is agree to the different legal agreements as if I just downloaded the game. Upon opening up the game, all my addons are turned on and all the addon settings are reset across all characters. Additionally, all of my in game settings are reset if I hadn't made that clear already, including graphics settings. The last thing I noticed is that even my settings in my 'user settings' file in the Eso folder itself is back to default. Additionally, the game removes the PTS server from my launcher.

If anyone might has any idea what be causing this, then that would be extremely helpful. This happens every couple days and NOT EVERY time I open up the game. There is nothing that I can identify that may be causing this. Lmk if there's any other details that may help :)

As a very short aside, I mentioned that the pts server would be removed from my launcher. To be more specific, it doesn't uninstall it, I just have to hit the check mark in the settings to show the server in the launcher itself

I noticed something recently and it was borking my games, could not change settings, do saves etc. Turned out it was the Anti Ransomware update recently in Windows. It locks down your My Documents and game apps can not write anything to that folder.

I could not figure out how to remove certain folders from its operation. Anyway try disabling that in the Security Center to see if things work again

I think i also ran into this issue once but it was more so with Addons. I was using a My Documents library where several folders were part of my documents. I had moved my ESO Folder to another drive for reasons. Anyway, this messed up saving settings etc until I moved everything back to the standard folder.

It could also be related to some third party antivirus.

There are some suggestions in the thread below of possible reasons your settings continue to reset.

Eso keeps resetting & desktop icons reset
