"I am a nightblade. Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

This quest is a *** for a caster. What worked for me was to keep stamina pots up and re key bind interrupt to a single keypress and there is no chance of missing the interrupt :)

After you have died about 7-10 times you'll get a chance to kill the fat guy for a second time without having to kill Cassia Varo. The easiest way to kill him is to lure him back into the cave so he doesn't get healed. When he dies the second time your quest will progress.

lol I have tried this got up close to Cassia and she backward jumps up to the top of the altar where I cannot follow therefore I cannot interrupt her. She will not leave the general area of that altar but I will keep trying to position her so she doesn't just go to the top where the flame is and heal. Wish me luck

Okay I am calling a bug at least in my case. I purposefully several times using both left+right mb's interrupted her several times. Unfortunately, either lag or a bug occurred and when using the exact same motion during healing she would on the 2nd or 3rd interrupt would not respond to the motion. I reset this over a dozen times and every time the same thing. I saw my character doing the "push" that interrupted her before yet she still finished healing to full. She stayed put I was almost inside of her and she still ignored the interrupt. On a couple of attempts I also just stood there holding the staff in front of me again this I could see as a lag issue. This encounter is really screwy especially if you have any lag and that could be a huge problem for most.

You literally have to be all up in her to get the interrupt. If you can't feel her panty lines then you're too far away. It's a cheese encounter because of that.

quit the game, restart it and you'll spawn outside the dungeon again. Work your way through, until you're back in the room with the boss. Try to keep your pet alive this time, and it should go just fine. If the pet dies, start all over again.
  • Necrodiety
Just beat this quest on my 33 sorc. It's a PITA, but once you figure it out, it's a piece of cake. The key is to save your stamina for interrupts. I'm a summoner so I just brought out both of my pets, added a DoT, and just sat there waiting to interrupt.

Nope, this fight is impossible, unless you're extremely lucky, to do solo.

The *** (Cassia) follows you all the way to the instance and does enough damage that you end up with no mana to heal. So even though you can interrupt the heals just fine YOU die still.

    WTF is this ***.

Im VR 5 Nightblade, I have tried every combo possible and every technique possible to try to beat this NPC but its impossible. The heal is UNinteruptable. The only way I was able to beat her is being in a group and inviting the group member to the same instance as me. Very very frustrating to say the least.
  • Necrodiety
I thought it was uninterruptable too after the first 2 attempts, but figured it out. Cassia has two charged skills. One is a charged heal (which you need to interrupt) and the other is that freeze wall. Just save your interrupts for the heal. Watch the health bar and as soon as it starts going up, interrupt. Stand right in front of Cassia, and don't move. She will focus down that flame atronarch so don't worry about trying to keep it alive.

I'm a sorc and have put 0 points in stamina. I didn't even pot. Keep some kind of dot on her, attack when you can, and interrupt that heal. It's a long fight, but possible. Luckily, her dmg is next to nothing so you shouldn't have to heal much.

LOL try doing this EB VR 9 as a Nightblade. Had to switch to dual wield dagger use three rank 5 alchemy major heal pots and save all stamina just for interrupts while healing fire pet with funnel health cause he seems to have the most agro. The big guy i just pulled to the water away from her and ran a circle around while blocking his normal attacks.

Whilst I can see how this battle might be entirely do-able using the interrupt techniques, I've yet to complete this one as a templar despite fighting much more powerful foes in the world . Whilst I wouldn't call it a bug, I'd say the mage is a poorly designed boss. The big guy was pretty easy, just avoid his strong attacks and make sure you pull him away to fight solo without engaging the mage.

I'm a templar with a resto staff so my options are limited but I took a close range melee approach and I managed to interrupt all their smaller heals but using the same techniques I could not interrupt any of his/her charged heals (had plenty of stamina). I found I was just spending my magicka attacking and interrupting to find they then used charged heals and I'd be back to square one.
The main problem for me is they never seem to run out of magicka, whilst I do, despite having a strong magicka build. I just got absolutely fed up and bored of this battle in the end so I just left the damn place XD !

I'm in the same boat as a few other people in this thread with a non-response to the interrupt while she heals. I got through the three mages and the ogrim no probs but with her I'm getting deja vu to pre-patch general endare. The quest marker is off same as when I'd try to do the quest with gen End only to have her not register attacks and interrupts. I just took a break to repair and re-stock hopefully coming back from outside the dungeon might reset her to work properly.

I got a bit further by keeping the atronach Boethiah gave me alive and having us both attack Cassia. At first I was excited to see progress until I realised that she was taking all the hits from the atronach but still not taking most damage from me. Eventually when she killed the atronach, I was back at square one. Hard is hard but I'm thinking she's not meant to be made of teflon.

Just cancelled my sub. I was a huge fan of the game but this is just ridiculous. The game has so many bugs and then there are the severely unbalanced bosses like Cassia. I interrupt EVERY single heal but she just gets full health back after 5 or 6 of my interrupts.
I'm done. There are better games out there.

I was really frustrated with this quest until I read this post. Thanks everyone for the tips. I'll lay out my strategy that I followed.

Character: Lvl 36 Templar 2h spec

I can see why melee has it easier. Im used to having to use interrupts so it made sense to me. those used to ranged playing will have it difficult. get in the mobs face and interrupt, even if your casting spells. as a matter of fact...dont' cast spells. I used my default attack ONLY. if you follow the process you can kill the human without serious attacks. it was hit - hit - interupt - hit.

    1) kill bone autronoch in cave. KEEP YOUR SUMMONED ADD ALIVE IT HELPS IMMENSLY.

    2) come to edge of room and aggro Monster ONLY. pull back to back edge of room. humanoid boss will not follow. Mob is pretty cake when you do this. KEEP SUMMONED ADD ALIVE either hit the mob hard to pull 3/4 of the aggro, or heal it or whatever.

    3) go up to boss, engage and stay close. you may have to hop up on the dias to do this...that will work fine. auto attack, and interrupt. thats it. keep a few stamina potions on reserve for this attack...if you interrupt everything, you will take very little damage. and the bosses health will go down fast if you do it right, especially with your summoned add in the back doing DPS while you interrupt.

I died 3x on this fight very fast, and was getting frustrated. decided to read this post, went back did the above, easy fight after that. just gotta control it by separating the bosses and taking them down one at a time. If you've ever raided in an MMO prior to this, it's not a foreign tactic. control the fight, separate the bosses, and gun them down individually. manage threat so your DPS don't go down (the summoned add).

It's like a minature raid boss fight in a solo run. try to look at it that way. now that I look back at it, im realizing what they did with this fight. get a few mechanics down and you'll be fine.
  • Elki_Wilderglas
Whoa cancelling your sub is a bit extreme. They are fixing the issues and the proof of that is in the quests and zones up to L20 or so in DC and AD and I'm assuming EP too being virtually bug-free now. I'm just putting this on the back burner until there's a fix incl in a patch as I am having the same thing happen every time. Looks like it works fine for @temjiu‌

This is a crappy design. Yes, I did it but it sucks. I never died but as a caster, my interrupts worked about 40% of the time only (with staff). Took forever. I healed myself a few times but mainly it was just getting the interrupts to stick that was ridiculous.Seeing her fill up and have to start again SUCKS. She apparently has unlimited magic and stamina as well. Nice. I should note I'm a sorc with resto staff and so let my pet along with the fire atrinoch do a lot of the damage until the end when they were dead. I don't know how Templars would manage it.

Soloed him in VR4 Sorc coming from daggerfall. Didn't even use ultimate and here is how I did it.

    Skill set up
    • Critical Surge
    • Inner Light
    • Unstable Clannfear
    • Endless Fury
    • Tri Focus (Destruction Staff Passive)
    • Prodigy (Light Armor Passive)

    How
    • Cast Inner Light and keep Critical Surge and Unstable Clannfear up all the time.
    • Stick right next to him and keep hitting light attack using flame staff. This should heal you enough from critical surge as you should have 40-50% crit chance (Inner Light 20%, Tri Focus 10%, Prodigy 10%, Thief Mundus Stone, Weapon Trait)
    • Whenever he casts heal, interrput right away. I assigned a short cut key as it is more reliable

Key is to come up with a way to survive his attack while sticking right next to him all the time for the interrupt.

    Hope this helps!

Are you meant to actually fight them both together?

If I remember correctly, the Ogre isn't there at first, she summons it, so if you're an Uber player and win first time, you've got to beat them both. Later it appears they are both present when you run back in so you can just agro the ogre with a ranged attack, pull him back to the caves and it's a piece of cake.

Is this cheating? A bug? The correct way to do it? Or a "mercy mode" the game gives you if you die first time around.

Trying to fight them both was ludicrous. The ogre kills your flame atronach pet very quickly , I tried taking a restoration staff and staying in the boss's face to melee interrupt, healed for all I was worth and it didn't stop the pet dying. After that they're both on you, and it's pretty crazy. Getting hit by the ogre's power attacks while trying to interrupt the sorcerer. Getting rooted by the ice skill then being unable to avoid the ogre's charge. In the caves I kept getting stuck on obstacles. Attempt three, the sorcerer stood on top of her dias the whole time, I had to jump up there to interrupt, so the ogre , showing surprising smarts, wails away at my unprotected back and there is nowhere I can go. Get off the dias and getting up there again is very hit or miss.

At least this finally gave me the idea to separate them.

Maybe I'd have done it after a dozen attempts, learned to time my runs between each mob perfectly or just get lucky and not get chain rooted by the two mobs, but the repair bill and consumables cost would bankrupt me. Also a little bit of me dies each time I see my character die, not to mention the sheer rage of being killed over and over because you can't dodge due to being rooted/trapped between two rocks etc.

I've been playing this game all bank holiday Monday and WAS enjoying it, but now i'm left feeling frustrated and angry even though I got the thing done in the end.

Does anyone have any tips on beating this as a nightblade ranger? I switched to my dual wield daggers and got up close to her but I run out of stamina for the bashes and she heals every time. She also hits me with some sort of freeze spell that blocks me from using any skills for a few seconds (and then she heals) and also seems to do a fair bit of damage. I killed the ogre and she wasn't even there at first so she didn't heal it, he was easy. Maybe my instance was glitched because from what I have read they are supposed to both be there from the start. Im a casual so I don't have the time to spend hours reading up on skill lines and such so any tips would be greatly appreciated. I play the game for fun but some of these bosses are definitely not fun and WAY too hard for a casual gamer to take on IMHO.

Thanks god this thread exists... I was also dying many times in this fight. I'm destro caster only with my 2 pets. Interupting her with my staff worked. This heal is not un-interruptable.

Just did this guy today, once you figure out you need to get up close and personal to interrupt the heals you can do him quickly. I did this as a Destro Sorcerer, Make sure you have a pet, the flame auroch and your Ultimate ability for the Auroch up. Run in on top of the guy the flame starts pelting him, your pet starts smacking him, toss the Ultimate up and then interrupt frequently. worked fine for me.
  • Master_Michl
I don't understand how it is possible to win this. I understand the stun tactic, but she does such an insane amount of damage with her uninterruptable normal auto-attack that it is impossible for me to survive - even with potions - long enough to kill her... tried it with my best heavy armor and highest spell resist...

SUPER frustrating, I'm skipping this quest.

    (VR4 Nightblade)

Edit: I searched through all my bank twinks for some more spell resist and came up to a total of 1900 (+237 wasted because of the soft cap) - barely managed to dot it with that - thank god.

Very much an 'up close and personal' fight. As principally a ranger build, that didn't come naturally to me - but it worked with my dual-wield secondary setup.

Good advice in this thread - though Tiburon, you seriously need to watch your attitude, man.
  • Elki_Wilderglas
It's possible that there is a bug with her that affects certain classes/weapon choices. I talked this through with one of my guildmates and tried using his tactic of attacking her before the Ogrim only to have the same effect. Finally I ended up bringing my guildmate along with me to see if it would work differently for him. Sure did. He finished off Cassia in the same time it took me to kill the Ogrim which is easily less than 30 seconds. We're both still not 100% sure why/how the interrupts and weapon damage would work for him but not for me. The toon I used was a dunmer mage with two axes. His khajiit werewolf is also a mage I think, though can't rememebr which weapon(s) he used.

You people are so freaking terrible at this game. Simply melee him, when he casts the healing spells "Hold Right-click + Click Left-click" to interrupt the heal and continue pummeling him. I killed him without the pet solo as a 35 DK. There are so many people that just SUCK at this game and immediately point to bugs and how bad the game is made. For me so far the game has had 0 bugs and is flawless, because I'm not stupid and I try more than 1 way of doing things.

Just finished this fight, separated them, killed ogrim first, then barely managed to kill the mage. Real pain in the ass at Vet 9. Tough fights teach how to play the game at least, this time i have to resort to melee inturrupts on my restoration staff sorcerer ^_^
